There are so many things that don't make sense from a doctrinal point of view. Why are blood fractions allowed but not whole cells and platlets? Why can JWs receive blood fractions but not give blood for blood fractions? Why can a JW have blood salvaged during in an operation but not pre-store their own blood? Why if it is the case of a minor are they happy to delegate responsibility to courts?

As an elder I once asked these to our HLC members but didn't get much of a straight answer. They just stick to the party line; "whole blood bad, fractions fine".

the watchtower was making the point that at that time god's organization will be ran by members of the 'other sheep'.

it didn't say how these remaining ones find themselves in heaven, but presumably they will be taken, i.e.

The rapture is an eschatological concept within Christianity, particularly within branches of American evangelicalism, consisting of an end-time event when all Christian believers who are alive, along with resurrected believers, will rise "in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air."

Not quite that definition, as to fit in with previous failed predictions, they believe that those of the 144,000 who had previously died were resurrected in 1918 (not sure if 1918 or 1919, my JW theology is a bit rusty now).

It's just as they believed in 1914 when Russell and Co. thought they were going to meet Christ in the clouds, but of course 99% of Witnesses today won't even know about that.

there was a time when brooklyn bethel was emblazoned with the words; "read god's word the bible daily" but it seems to me now that even the bible has taken second place to jw.org.

i remember having lots of studies using the 'truth' book.

we asked the students in those days to prepare well and look up the scriptures in their own copy of the bible.

I remember having lots of studies using the 'Truth' book. We asked the students in those days to prepare well and look up the scriptures in their own copy of the Bible. All I see now are people being directed to JW.org and asked to download something or other.

Not training speakers/teachers any more?

not having attended any meetings since about 2001, for reasons of safety (sounds a bit dramatic but i don't like my wife being out on her own late at night where we live now), i have started accompanying her to the mid-week meeting.. when i was young, the ministry school and service meeting were central to training brothers to take the lead.

you were assigned instruction talks, then if you cut it, you moved pretty rapidly to public talks - a full 55 mins at the time.

i was just 18 years old when i gave my first public talk and this was a first step to moving rapidly through the ranks.

Agree with you Tech49, reading a few verses from the Bible with no introduction, no application and no conclusion hardly counts as a privilege.

'Experiences(tm)'! Made up or totally true??

at one assembly(tm), i was asked to relate an 'experience(tm)' which i did.

however, during rehearsals, the geezer in charge elder or co or some such title, told me that i shouldn't tell it the way it was.

i did a 're-enactment(tm)' with another 'brother(tm)'.

The other way they get round no new experiences, is to re-tell old ones.

I've often seen 'brother and sister old timers' being interviewed on the platform relating experiences from 30 plus years back, especially if they were ex-missionaries or had served overseas.

How times have changed.

When I was really young, about 12 years old, I had the job of preparing the the invitations for the public talk every week. I can't remember exactly how the job went but I think the title of the talk and the back of the tract where pre-printed by Bethel and I had a small printing kit (Jon Bull rubber print set) and I used to set up the address of the KH, and the date and time of the talk and then stamp hundreds of the things in a space on the front. In those days, I didn't even count my time for this rather soul-destroying task.

You were assigned instruction talks, then if you cut it, you moved pretty rapidly to public talks - a full 55 mins at the time. I was just 18 years old when I gave my first public talk and this was a first step to moving rapidly through the ranks. I was only 19 years old when I was appointed group study conductor, in those days a key teaching role as you had the opportunity to interact with a relatively small group of publishers.

I was so surprised to find how different they are nowadays to when I was 'in'. No instruction talk, all the parts carefully orchestrated by head office, no room for any of the elders to put a personal or local spin on things. So, it is very apparent to me that the GB are not particularly interested in training speakers and teachers any more. Whilst I don't expect they will become a totally internet based religion with no meetings, I do suspect that in future all parts will done as pre-recorded items from head office. Elders will no longer be primarily teachers as such but merely 'enforcers' tasked with making sure the flock keep in line with whatever is dished down from above.

i was on facebook and a person i have known for a long time posted how trump is mentally ill and is truly a psychopath.

a couple of her friends chimed in when i suggested that perhaps the fb friend was really the psychopath.

a couple of her friends began to defend her but i was surprised by how many people defended the president!

Yes, but you can't argue that Trump is a good president. He can't even admit he got it wrong about the hurricane and shows an incorrect mapped trajectory. IMHO he is not worthy of the office.
