Actually, vandalism is one concern. A KH I attended built in 1950
had 6 large windows. They were the old steel crank out type with
many small panes. I recall times on warm Sundays they were open, it
gave a nice airy feeling to the barn-like bldg. Over the years though, the neighborhood went downhill and we got tired of fixing
windows due to rocks. The first major remodel saw the windows go.

No windows on Kingdom Halls?
by just_a_girl ini just read a post on another site i belong to (non-jw related) where a person asked if anyone knew why jws do not have windows on their kingdom halls.
a few other people responded saying that they had noticed the same thing, that they thought it was b/c the jws believe that windows are just an adornment, hence a distraction?.
in my 20+ years of being a jw and attending quick builds, i never noticed this ... it never even dawned on me ... and now that i try to think back, i can't remember there being any windows at the khs i attended?.

As one who lived thru it all, it was not the rank and file JW. Although I did not fall for it because "no man knows the day or the hour", the whole substance and energy of the organization focused on
1975 as being the end.In addition DO's & CO's whipped up the hysteria and apparently were
not muzzled by Brooklyn. Publishers were commended when downsizing
their lives. Some sold big homes to move into smaller ones, others
sold small homes to move into mobile homes, others contemplated
moving from mobile homes into travel trailers.I have heard elders to this day say "the Society never said the end
would come in 1975". In a strict legalistic way of wording, I
suppose they didn't, but all circumstantial evidence points that
they did.Oh, and just for the record, at a DC that I attended in the late
'70s, Milton Henschel apologized for the whole thing publicly. -

questions about obtaining Higher Education for JWs
by AjaxMan ini have read a couple of threads the last couple of days that dealt with what you have to give up when becoming a jw.. most posts that i read said they have to give up getting a higher education.
my question is this: is that still a trend today?
that elders frown or discourage young jws from going to college or university by telling them to put kingdom's interest first?

I graduated HS in the early 70's. College a definite
NO-NO.
My kids graduated in the 90's; college still a stigma, as I
discouraged it due to my upbringing and all the aformentioned
negative connotations connected.Looking back I wish I'd given them the chance.

Let's put it this way. At a recent circuit assembly a
young person interviewed on stage was praised because she turned down
a college scholarship to pioneer. -

TO MESSENGER,
Are you comparing apples and oranges?
The Red Cross does a great job, but their main focus is disaster
relief, not religion.
Its the same with those who provide for those in need on a daily basis, I applaud them, but that is their particular focus that they
specialize in.Mormons help their own, why can't Jdubs? :-)
As far as helping the community as a whole, I suppose that's true.
The repairs on the 625 homes will not be a burden on the community.more later

Perhaps the Governing Body should have done nothing. Then they would have been attacked for doing nothing. I am sure those volunteers in Texas would rather be at home with their families instead of tearing out smelly sheetrock.
