I left some items at a quick build that I had worked really hard on, located about thirty miles from me about 1986.
I went back to the hall after one of their first meetings to try and get my possessions back.
An elderly sister vaguely directed me to an enormous, overweight middle aged scruffy looking brother at the back of the hall, who she thought was in charge of lost property.
I approached him politely and asked him if he was the brother in charge of lost property after the quick build.
He looked at me with a scornful gaze and almost spat at me in a harsh Scottish accent: 'Lost Property!!! Laddie, I am THE CIRCUIT OVERSEER!!!'

The last time we studied it in the congregation book study the study conductor overheard me saying that I hated the book.
When he asked why I mentioned the sheets and sheets of corrections of changes of thought and 'new shite' etc.
He then admitted that it was a rather arduous task to go over the same book yet again...

by Simon inwe seem to have had an influx of religiots - the people who want to tell us all about how we / the wts / whoever are wrong, wrong, wrong about everything and how right they are.
they obviously have special insight, or voices (probably voices, right?
) telling them the real truth.. as proof, there is inevitably a wall of random scripture references and quotes.. sorry, but we're not here for that.

Due to my very long witness upbringing I have now come to feel that over the course of my life I have been constantly pebble-dashed, machine gunned and splattered with scriptures and the bible.
I try to avoid conversations now in the main about religion, politics and football...

A former sister in law was not even reproved for an affair, was told to break it off. She just got sneakier. To top it off an elder I know bragged about what good friends he is with the fornicating new husband.
In the 1970's I stumbled across a very respected elder having an affair with a very respected sister.
I told one of the service committee - he said 'we think that affair has being going on for over ten years'.
When it was obvious that the elders were going to do nothing I threatened to go to the co - the elders gave the couple a private reproof and then told me off for not telling the presiding overseer about what I had uncovered so he could have kept the matter private.
Within six months the couple were at it again and the presiding overseer just sent the sister to another hall without informing the elders there what she had been doing - in fact he gave her a glowing testimony.
Before I could do anything they both then eloped together, leaving letters to their marriage partners.
Finally their original hall had to grudgingly disfellowship them...
