I was very gullible and believed every dogma printed until researching. Most I know are gullible though I think there are some who have doubts but are afraid to speak up.

Were You A Gullible JW?
by minimus ini think every congregation has their group that sees everything as a sign that they are god’s chosen people.
if a witness didn’t go to a meeting and a storm came and destroyed their house and killed them, and only the kingdom hall was saved, that was a sign that we should be in jehovah’s house.
if russia persecuted jws , it’s proof we are living in the last days.

THE SHEEP MUST CALL OUT FIRST FOR SHEPHERD TO SEARCH FOR IT?
by blondie inwhen i was still going to meetings, a wt study article said this:.
https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/2002163?q=bleat&p=sen.
13 in scotland some young lambs were grazing in a pasture when one of them strayed to the side of a hillock and tumbled onto a ledge below.

That is a brilliant point. I am PIMO and never noticed that in the watchtower. I have a close friend who is a pioneer and he feels abandoned and unloved by the elders. He is on the verge of exiting and has been up and down mentally for the past 9 years since his wife left him. She threatened to sue the society for DF ing her and she stayed in. I have just been told I am not exemplary by the elders and cant do anything in the cong. though I havnt done anything wrong. Its all about their image as a body and the hours of preaching. Planning my future with care!

Stopping Thought Stopping.
by Peeringin inim sure that many on this forum will be aware of the thought-stopping techniques that are taught by jws/wts to suppress difficult thoughts and overcome cognitive dissonance in favour of reverting back to belief in wts.. often in conversation these will be clear verbal cues that can sound unnatural during the course of a conversation, as though an individual is temporarily reading a script to overcome a difficult point.. my question to you all is this:.
are there any methods or resources that people are aware of that can help to break through a thought stopping mechanism when it is noticeably in effect?
a question perhaps, or technique that will encourage the individual to think the thought through in its entirety?.

I am still a witness physically but I am finally waking up after 40 years.
I think the best way to get through is to gain knowledge of their own printed material. "JW facts " have a wealth of material.

Another thing that woke me up
by nowawake14 inwell, the typical person doesn't have to worry about field service and reporting time.
so why should i have to?.

At the meeting yesterday watch tower conductor reckons hand in field service report because Jesus disciples reported back to him about what a great time they what they did. I doubt it was number of hours or return visits. The spirit led them just as the spirit supposed to direct the GB and the results speak for themselves.

Alternate military service pre and post 1996 witness policies. Please comments.
by benny inwhat are the thoughts on the changes made by the society in the 1996 watchtower [new light] where one can then accept alternate army service where before you would have to be sentenced to do this.
i feel many were sent to prison needlessly or even executed.
this was not a matter of conscience as the watchtower claims..

Good reminder about South Africa Zeb. Correct me if im wrong, they handed over the reports to prove the teenagers were practicing witnesses. I think some of the elder dads signed off on this even sending in false reports otherwise the kids would land up in normal prison with "Die gestravtes" in Afrikaans or criminals.
If you could prove you were a bonified jw then you wore a blue overall and were kept separately with other jws. before the govt. changed policy and sentenced them to community service I think in the 90s.

by inbetween09 inthis weeks meeting features a video about maintaining kingdom halls.
it mentions a few times, how kh belong to jehovah, and are dedicated to him.. anybody ever wondered, if they belong to jehovah, how come, they are being sold all the time?

I would like comments please on the lack of transparency regarding funds collected at circuit assemblies. A elder who I worked for said he doesn't go to the lunch time elders meeting as they aren't given full details either and just a waste of time.
Do they have a budget that is set. I mean at last weekends one day assembly on "being bold " They were saying it will cost £6000 and so keep giving. Work that out if there are 2 assemblies a weekend. The assembly hall is their own.

I view them as a pack of "wolves" leading the "sheep". If any sheep runs ahead or points out a wrong path then they are bitten and killed [dfd] period.

Thanks for the great comments. I am still in but mentally out. Trying to plan my exit. Its amazing how the blinkers come off when you do real research and start thinking for yourself. I want to help other family. My youngest daughter left when she was 16. I have her to confide in. I would appreciate some suggestions.
I was at work in the 80s when staff were discussing among themselves the issue with alternate military service in South Africa where we lived. The brothers were sentenced to years of community service. They were disgusted and I felt guilty because I could not defend this stand.
