Sounds like it would be large enough to hold the Book Study in. If nothing else, it would be a great place for a car group to go for a poddy break.

gotta love it.....
prince, the pint-sized pop star, is paying a whopping.
$70,000 monthly to rent a hollywood hills mansion.. and he apparently thought that hefty sum allowed him.

its installing on my pc as i'm posting this.
i've been waiting months for it and it came out today.
if you havent heard of it.
I got Morrowind a few weeks ago. It got good reviews, but I don't like it. I keep getting killed. I don't understand the game because it the instruction book is so lame. To walk from one town to another is painstakingly slow. That is very, very boring. The user interface seems needlessly complicated. I'll pass on Oblivion and just wait until Neverwinter Nights 2 this summer, I think.

hi guys.
you may or may not be aware that silent lambs has a page displaying congregations and cities in the usa that have pedofiles in them.
currently there are no such lists for other places.
Shame on that body of elders and your family for treating him as if nothing has happened.
All but one Miss Peaches. One elder was bothered by this case, the 2 witness rule, and the response by the WTBTS legal dept. His conscience and his research enabled him and his immediate family to escape the JWs several years later. I am so happy for them.
Sometimes dark clouds do have silver linings.

last week i sent an e-mail of a compilation of of traits of a cult (i posted it here mon.
or so) to every jw i had an address for.
i knew it would come and sure enough it did!
Jehovah's Witnesses--we can say anything we want about everyone elses religion, just please don't say anything about ours...that's apostasy"
Yes, and that's hypocrisy. I think with some rewording, that would make a great bumper sticker.

Same old story. He denied it, and there weren't two eyewitnesses to any one incident. So he is in good standing.
I told the elders I didn't want to be know as a Jehovah's Witness any more.
So apparantly you can be a pervert, and unless there is that second eyewitness, everything is fine. But if he were to say I don't believe in it any more, then they would shun him.
Pretty sick, huh?

I've already talked to some folks handling these cases about some of the ones I knew of, but these cases were 13 years ago or more. I noticed that some of those towns/congregations weren't on the Silent Lambs list. Is that a list of locations only where there is currently a problem? One of the cases I know of happen 30 years ago and the perv is dead now. Another one is out of prison, but I don't know if he is even attending a congregation any more. One is a member of my extended family, and I believe he is still in good standing. (Yeah, my family shuns me, but still associates with him. Go figure!) His city is the only one listed.

that seems to be the implication in a new evangelical response to mormonism called "the new mormon challenge: responding to the latest defenses of a fast-growing movement.".

this books presents a sophisticated response from serious scholars in fields of theological and religious studies who bring their expertise to bear on controversial mormon truth claims.
I don't know, but I sure like their new show on HBO. I'm learning a lot about them and there are so many similarities between them and JWs, except the polygamy part. That thread on orgies comes close though.
Tammy
it's high time i introduce myself.
i feel like i know many of you already, just by daily reading your posts over the last year.
you all have been a support to my husband and i, even though you were not even aware we were even here.
Welcome Lady Liberty!
Of all of the amazing revelations I have had about the JWs after extricating myself from them in 1994, the Fall of Jerusalem in 607 issue was the most disturbing. It was flabbergasting to me because no other historical reference mentions it at all. It is entirely their own fabrication. When I was growing up, that date was ingrained in us at countless book studies.
What was most disturbing about it was that, being a bibliophile, with all of the time I have spent at various libraries, I never once checked it out before (I have since, however) for myself when I was a JW. One day spent researching that date could have quickened my exit and saved me a lot of heartache in dealing with my family. I might have even had some of them leave with me.
I really do agree that it is a very pivotal issue. It is such an easy question to ask, for which they can find no answer. "Since the year 607 BCE is crucial in the Watchtower's calculations pointing to 1914, what is the Watchtower's historical basis for selecting 607 as the fall of Jerusalem when all other historians unanimously say that Jersusalem fell in 587/586 BCE and when even the Bible supports this date?"
That, the UN membership, and the pedophile issue have been key to a lot of people leaving in recent years. I have a feeling that the recent research on blood transfusions and tort misrepresentation will also become big in the years ahead.
I am so happy for you and your family! The number 19 is such a big number when it involves your family. Congratulations on figuring it out.

I don't see anything wrong with fighting fire with fire. Just make it clear to them that if they insist on leaving their message in your door, you will reciprocate with disseminating your message to everyone you can.

don't tell me none of you watched this?????
it's a new hbo series on sundays at 10 pm.
it's about a mormon offshoot group, complete with a commune, child brides, and polygamy.
I don't get the Mormons complaining about this show when they are usually the most vocal in complaining there aren't enough religious shows on TV.
I was intrigued by the parallels between them and JWs.
"Nobody will love you like your family." -- Gee, where have I heard that lie before?
Their distrust of hospitals and medical treatment was also very similar to the JW experience.
There were several buzzwords that reminded me of the buzzwords that JWs use. "Oh, you're inactive."
And then there was the whole entrapment thing. You got the impression that everybody in the family was trapped, and acting out their frustration in various ways. They were being subtly pressured to conform, whether it was handing over a paycheck to the common houshold fund, or the pressure put upon the husband by his father-in-law (or is that father-out-law?) to turn over 15% of his new store to the "compound." You got the impression that they were in the process of extricating themselves as much as possible, but kept getting sucked back in. What about the father-in-law showing up unexpectedly to confront the husband? That sure was and elder-like thing to do.
I found the characters to be very likable and really hope that the family is successful in going stealth.
And they say they aren't cults!
