I'd go back to the 60's. This time I could be a hippie instead of a dubbie!
I just got Time After Time on DVD on Friday! It's one of my favorite time travel movies!

i wanted to express to you how i felt at the vicious conduct of fred hell towards you earlier today, but i did not want to post it to his thread.
as a general rule i avoid posting to troll threads; it only helps them to get their rocks off.. i just wanted you to know how much i admire you and admired the way you stood up to him today.
insensitive people like that do not think about anyone else, only themselves.

I just wanted you to know how much I admire you and admired the way you stood up to him today. Insensitive people like that do not think about anyone else, only themselves. This is partly the reason the NY Times article villifying the uncaring JW hierarchy came out today. It is their own selfish position that has put them in this situation. Rather than expressing love and concern for the victims, they chose to circumvent justice and ignore the pain and suffering of innocent victims.
I just thought that I had to tell you this. I can empathize with you. I too had something occur in my childhood. It was not as extreme as the other stories I have heard, but it was something I have never forgotten. I am so sorry that you went through this and then had to be subjected to Fred Hell today. It was just adding insult to injury and was very inappropriate. I think you are a very courageous person. Unfortunately there are many Fred's in this world, but it is my wish for you that will find nothing but support on this forum in the future.

as many of you know alot of my family are jehovah's witnesses, i was a 3rd gen, untill i left over 10 years ago, however my brother, dad, and sister all have doubts now, they see the hypocrasy, my brother is fading away, my dad is ready ray franz's books, but both my dad and sister are staying witnesses for now, thinking they can change it from the inside, which i know they can't, they see the hypocrasy, in fact my sister is dfed and she's trying to get reinstated, stating she's doing it for my mom, who is still fanatical about it, and she said she want's her husband to try to get a job through one of the brothers, she said she's just going to play they're game and use them.
i tried to point out how wrong that is, and how on a level it's exactly the same thing they're doing, she even confirmed that in other country's witnesses can vote, they can at least in venzuela where she was living for the last couple of years, where she met her current husband.
it's funny out one side of the mouth she agree's with me how hypocritcal it is, then goes on to defend certain aspects, always dancing around the subject, saying other religions aren't any better, and i asked why do you need to be a member of a religion if you believe that?
Very funny! Thanks a bunch!

as most of you already know, the jehovah's witnesses are covering an article in their august kingdom ministry to be discussed the weeks of 8/19 and 8/26 which details how they are to shun and avoid those who are no longer members of their organization, even immediate family members.. .
undoubtedly this article has been written to reinforce to the rank&file jehovah's witnesses the shunning policy, so as to tighten the ranks and prevent members from having the opportunity to learn the abundant contradictions and hypocrisies found within watchtower doctrine and practice from any who may have left.. this policy also serves to divide families and attempt to shame or abuse those whom have chosen to no longer be jehovah's witnesses, for whatever reason.. that much is obvious.
in recent days this topic has been discussed in detail in various threads.
I disassociated myself due to changes in my life that were in conflict with their teachings. I made it very clear in letters to my family that I loved them, wanted to remain in contact with them, and that they did not always have to strictly follow all of the JW rules. Nevertheless, I am shunned. I check the obits every morning to see which of my family is no longer alive. Several have died, of which I was not informed. It seems to me that informing me of deaths in the family would qualify as family business, but apparently not.

this story, in the deseret news (salt lake city), tells of the opposing views to gambling by different religious bodies, including the mormons, united methodists, southern baptists, buddhists, muslims.. included is the view of jehovah's witnesses as expounded by richard wolf, an elder in the north salt lake congregation.. http://www.deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,405022988,00.html
Richard Wolf, an elder in the North Salt Lake congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, said his church is against gambling and a recent article in a church magazine has affirmed that position.
"There is no specific commandment in the Bible that says you must not gamble. But the fruitage of gambling is consistently bad, and this rotten fruitage has been exposed by The Watchtower and Awake! for half a century," an official church statement says.
Gambling fosters a spirit of gain at the expense of others, while the Bible encourages people to work with their own hands, Witnesses believe.
"Rotten fruitage!" Where do they come up with this lingo!
"Gambling fosters a spirit of gain at the expense of others." Excuse me! How much do Bethelites earn slaving in your factories? How much money did you receive in contributions in the last year alone? How many people built Assembly Halls and Kingdom Halls for you? How many people have gone to door after door to build your publishing empire?
Personally, I think the lottery is a tax on the stupid. But cults are the chains around their necks!
joy2bfree and i have so enjoyed meeting over 70 of the posters here on jwd in the last few months.
this has brought us even closer to many, yet the things i learned about each made me even more concerned about others here.
i hope each is getting what they need from this cyberpub we visit.
I have worked through many other issues in my life, but this was one that was still bothering me. I've been running from it for a long time, and the depression and the nightmares were not going away. Now, I've turned to face it, and this board helps give me the courage I need to do that.
My husband tries to understand, but he admits he doesn't quite get it. My new friends don't seem to understand what it was like growing up in a cult-like environment. Here there is understanding and empathy. Here I can be empathetic to others who suffered the same thing I did. I can start finding resolution here.
Thank you everyone.

.
nope, i sure don't.
life, the universe, and everything.....
I have learned a lot just observing nature. Eat only when you are hungry, sleep only when you are tired, drink only when you are thirsty. Work and enjoy the feeling of accomplishment, but play when you feel like playing. Enjoy each day as it comes. Enjoy life for the many moments of bliss that it has brought in the past and will bring in the future. Cherish them and the memory of them will help sustain you during the stressful times. Look up at the stars and feel your insignificance in the universe and in the passage of time, and that brings you the peace of keeping everything in perspective.
When I look at nature it all seems so simple, but so many things distract us from our goal. It is easy to get caught up in that. I myself have been distracted often, but I keep working on it.
ok we've had this before , but lets do it again.
what do you think are more appropriate titles for jw books?
heres mine, .

My copy of Crisis of Conscience came today! I also got a copy of Understanding Mind Control Among JWs. So far I am very impressed with both of them. That cognitive dissonance is scary stuff! It explains a lot about why we still hung in there after 1975. I knew about 1914, but I didn't know about 1874, 1878, 1881, 1910, 1918, 1920, and 1925 as prophetic dates that were also duds. I wonder why the Watchtower forgot about those dates when we were studying the history of the society in later years?
Are there any documents left to support these dates and tell of the Russellites early history? Are there any sources other than the WTBTS that give a more objective view of the Russellites, Millerites, and Adventist teachings of the 19th century? I was so stupid not to double check and research on my own! I just took their word for everything! STUPID! STUPID! STUPID!
Yes, these are turning out to be very good books. The only problem is there are no paragraph questions at the bottom of the page to help me "get the full understanding."
