ANGER!!!
by Rado Vleugel inwhen i surf on this discussion board i feel a lot of anger.
this is totally understandable because a lot of us suffered or still are suffering from their association with the watchtower society.
some of us are victims of child abuse.

Of course I can't speak for anybody else's experience, but for me, anger is an important emotion that was denied to me all my life. I had to supress my anger a lot as a Dubbie. Now I vent and let it out. You know what? I'm not as angry as I was 8 years ago. I'm more ready to look at the issues objectively. And the JWs, my family, the elders, and even the GB don't look like enemies as much to me anymore. I have really started to see them all as victims just like I was, and with a lot of repressed anger of their own. Just my $.02 worth.

Do you get disappointed if no one responds?
by Larry inwriting should be for our own edification - a personal cleansing, therapeutic at the least.
if you write for other people's approval, you will be disappointed, especially when you share your thoughts on the 'net.
i've seen many folks get 'burn-out' from these boards b/c they don't get the expected respond to their post.
-

Mister 8iggs says:
The REALLY frustrating part is when certain "Trolls" start a post and they get hundreds of responses from people on this forum when they respondents (and the Troll) know that the Trolls aren't sincere in their questions. Then, people with a serious or an important post gets buried.
Yes, I agree. I make it a rule to avoid Troll threads. I don't even read them in order not to give them the satisfaction of seeing their READ counts go up.
To answer the question of this thread:
I like feedback, especially if I have an important question, but I don't get really disappointed if there is no response. Just the fact that I am able to add to the discussion is important to me. I find it cleansing to post, kind of like a form of therapy, where just getting your issues out in front of you in the form of words on the screen helps you to rid yourself of some of those hidden hurts from decades as a Dubbie!

Embarrassing Family Questions
by Trixie ini was wondering what has been the most embarrassing question asked of you by a family member.
the reason why i'm asking is because i have just had an unforgettable experience with my grandmother.
my sister, grandmother and i were sitting at the kitchen table at my mom's birthday party.
-
Swan
Dear Trixie,
You are 24 years of age! Your grandmother was still treating you like some little kid! If ever there was a time to say "I love you, but I'm an adult now and that's none of your business," that was it.
I think that my family quit asking me those kinds of questions when I was teenager. Maybe they were afraid of the answer they would get. Yet, when I was about ten years old my Mother asked me if I ever played with myself. The answer then was no, but yikes! That was embarrassing.

I voted for the first time
by Mackin inwell actually it was about two weeks ago now, but i was just talking with another x-jw friend yesterday who commented how significant it was for her.
i'm not particularly political, i don't have strong opinions on politics, but it was pretty cool being free to do something that i had always been taught to believe was a terrible sin.. you see here in new zealand there was a general election held on july 27. all my life i have been in the borg and subsequently never voted, it wasn't allowed.
voting would have made me "part of satan's system of things" and all that.. so for the month or so leading up to the election i paid extra attention to the political situation in the country and made a decision and when the day came, i made my way to the polling place (the local high school hall) and voted.. just thought i'd share that with you all.

I voted ever since I left the dubs. I think that I am a very conscientious voter. I read the voters pamplet cover to cover, read the newspaper editorials, and ignore the commercials. I take the responsibility very seriously.
As for my ideal political party, I would belong to the Leave Us the Hell Alone party. Since there isn't one, I vote for the candidates closest to that ideal. After being controlled all my life, I am very anti-legislation, anti-government control. I am especially against trying to legislate morality or religious ideology. Just had way too much of that back when I was a Dubbie.

WHAT"S THE FUNNIEST THING YOU'VE SEEN???
by minimus ini remember years ago after giving a public talk, the sister who was playing the piano had to rush to the front of the hall to get ready to play the opening song for the watchtower study.
what she didn't realize was that her dress was neatly tucked in to her pantyhose for all to see, since she had just come out of the bathroom.
the attendant was trying to literally run behind her to tell her of what she was exposing, but couldn't keep up with her.

The story you are about to read is true... the names have been changed to protect the innocent.
At a Service Meeting presentation the brother talked about street witnessing. He had two young adults in the wings ready to do a demonstration. "Now we'll see a demonstration. Brother Smith is the Publisher and Sister Jones is the streetwalker." Everybody roared!

Yikes! 18! I'm older than dirt!
Oh and my aunt had a shoe store. We used to get all of the whistles, decoder wheels, etc. that they gave out with the shoes. "PF Flyers... They make you run faster and jump higher!" Very cool!

P.S. Remember the eggs you got from Red Goose Shoes?

Rhetoric used by wbts.
by Blueblades inone-sided presentations, where contrary evidence is suppressed or ignored.
pontificating, on the basis of claimed superior wisdom or superior authority.provincialism, appealing to the tendency to identify closely with the thinking ,belief ,prejudices, bias,or ignorance of a particular group, and to see things largely from the standpoint of the in-group verses the out-group.it often results in a false conception of the importance and moral quality of ones own group....in its extreme form ,the fallacy of loyalty in the face of great contrary evidence because of provincial loyalty.strawman, misrepresentation of opposing auguments,as by the use of a strawman in the place of the real point at issue.red herring, dragging a red herring over the trail of the augment, that is,bring in some point that is not relevant to the discussion and which only serves to divert ones attention from the weakness in the argument.smokescreen, example:what is the real issue!
if it is not the real issue then it is a smokescreen.poisoning the well, tactic in which an effort is made to discredit the source so as to make it appear that any evidence or argument from that souce is not worthy of serious consideration.false dilemma.creation of a false dilemma which makes it appear that there are only two choices, the one being argued for and another that is usually undesirable---when in fact there may be several choices, several alternatives.circular reasoning , in which an unproven premise is used at the starting point of an argument that proceeds to build on the premise rather than on established facts.ad hominen-(meaning to the man) this consists of an attack on the person instead of on his argument.ad-hominen is the wbts favorite toward anyone who thinks or voices otherwise against them.finally there are the methods of augumentations used by the wbts, honest-us.

Blueblades,
I can certainly understand your feelings. I am still learning about the tricks they used. I still feel anger, betrayal, absolute incredulousness at my own stupidity and for not checking out the facts in my own local library, resentment, loss, guilt, and even remorse. Make sure your safety bar is locked and keep your feet and arms inside the vehicle at all times! Welcome to the incredible rollercoaster of emotions you will find on this board!
