this old chap is quite sweet really, and i wasn't going to say anything much.i studied with him and his daughter and they are neighbours, but there was just us two in my house (!
) and it all came pouring out.i get sick of the 'when are you coming back'...'what else is there'... where else would you go' questions, and i don't even know what started it, it was a bit of a blur, i went on for at least an hour and 'brought out the following points'.
have you had your new blood card yet?
We parted on friendly enough terms but I don't know what to expect now!
It sounds like you did well. His cognitive dissonance kicked in a couple of times, but the seeds have definitely been planted. Maybe when the new light on blood comes out, he will realize that you were right about that and wonder what else you were right about. Let's hope so.

well, i just got back from two weeks in chicago and denver and discovered, much to my surprize, that an article that i submitted last spring has been published.. it is on the subject of the calgary blood drama.
since it took so long to publish, the editor has made some timing changes that are not quite correct.

You see, although the organization of Jehovahs Witnesses claims to allow freedom of conscience, this is not true. Individual members must conform to church doctrines, with no exceptions.
Although I think they do make acceptions on conscience issues if it is a member of the GB.

recently, for a couple of months i have been nostalgic, thinking about my past.
i have visited places where i grew up, my grandparents old homeplace, the place where i was born, the old part of town where my parents used to shop, etc.
things sort of seem sureal sometimes.
Definitely see your doctor. It sure sounds like some depression going on.
I also agree with Outoftheorg.
I would not go to my elders for help. he he.
Prayers of faith by a body of elders has never yet been proven in any medical study to be as effective as Prozac, Zoloft, Effexor, or any of the marvelous new wonder drugs they have developed to deal with what is basically a chemical imbalance in the brain.

It was a terrific story. Not boring at all. It's amazing all of the different ways we come to realize what the JW religion is truly all about. We went through a lot, but we came out, and survived. Life is so much better out here and we always wonder how we could have had such tunnel vision while in the cult.

It makes perfect sense to me. My family was/is very dysfunctional too. Sometimes I think we make the Soparnos look like the Brady Bunch in comparison. But I have to try to remind them that I am here. I have to let them know that if they ever want to, need to leave the JWs, I will be there for them. It just isn't working for me the way it is now. Coming to this board and dealing with these issues is what is slowly bringing me out of a deep depression I have had now for the last year.
So maybe I am being selfish this way in trying to "rescue" my family. Maybe it is part of my own dysfunction. But I have to try because right now it seems to be the right thing to do, and the right time to try and do it.

He of course blamed me for my Mom's grief, but I knew it was all a needless result of the silly rules of the JWs.
One of my counselors advised me that I had to let go of her, which didn't mean to give up, but simply to get on with my life and accept things as they were. I did this and it broke my heart. But, as time went by, she softened and finally showed up to visit. That was in 1992, and we have been connected ever since. She won't speak about "the truth", or have any deep or meaningful conversations, but it's wonderful just to have her say anything to me. It's not all one-sided now.That's great! With me, I was ignoring the issues, and it wasn't helping at all. Nightmares, depression, etc. Now my counselor is glad I am taking some action and addressing my issues. I have to be careful not to let this become my whole life, but a way for me to begin healing instead. If I do gain my mother back, how wonderful that would be, but if I don't, at least I will have felt that I did what I could. Is it tilting at windmills? Yes, perhaps.
Be brave and be strong. Be good to yourself. Keep loving friends close. I will be thinking of you. Thank you for printing out all the words to the song.

Thanks for the hugs, and you are right. No religion should separate families. I guess that's another difference between a religion and a cult.
