A coworker/friend gave me the Book of Mormon one year as a Christmas present. I (unwisely) promised him I'd read it. I got a few chapters into it and promptly broke the promise. No offense, but the Book of Mormon is a huge load of delusional crap.

you know
by SpiderMonkey inhello... i've been away from here for awhile, and probably will not be getting very involved here again, but some things have got me wondering lately.
i don't know if you know's still around, but, if so, i have a couple of questions.. you know: correct me if i'm wrong, but i seem to remember your saying that you'd read ray franz' book "crisis of conscience.
" i'm not going to debate the propriety of your doing so, as one of jehovah's witnesses, but i'm very interested in what you think of his reasoning on various points.

Actually, Yadirf, I'm not a Christian... I have no interest in the petty squabbles between Christian sects. And I wasn't quoting Ray Franz as an "authority." I was trying to get a certain person's thoughts on a certain subject. And you ain't him. Buh-bye.

Hello... I've been away from here for awhile, and probably will not be getting very involved here again, but some things have got me wondering lately. I don't know if You Know's still around, but, if so, I have a couple of questions.
You Know: Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember your saying that you'd read Ray Franz' book "Crisis of Conscience." I'm not going to debate the propriety of your doing so, as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, but I'm very interested in what you think of his reasoning on various points. For example, the Witness assertion that Jesus inspected those claiming to be his followers in 1918 and found the "Bible Students" (as they were then known) to be those most closely in tune with God's purpose and truth. Franz goes into considerable detail showing the actual situation could not have been so... How do you feel about that? In view of the early emphasis on all kinds of prophecy dates that invariably did not come to pass, did the Watchtower organization truly pass muster with the son of God? Along a similar vein, Franz points out that God's servants in the Bible never gained His approval by putting forth doctrines that were false... Yet the Watchtower has demonstrably done so over and over again, at times returning to an old position (as with the "superior authorities") and calling it "new light." I can't help but ask, after reading the overwhelming evidence compiled in this book, as well as "In Search of Christian Freedom" (which I'm currently reading), can you still view the Watchtower as God's one true organization? If you can provide convincing reason for believing so, I'll go back in a heartbeat. I mean that. But after reading what I have over the past couple of months, I find it hard to believe that I ever put faith in that organization, or that anyone does... Much less, that some have for many decades of their lives. Can you give a reason why discarding an old position, and then returning to the very same position, can be considered "tacking into the wind"? "New light"? "Progressive understanding"?
Respectfully, Mike aka spidermonkey

Please, I am so upset...I need some hugs...
by Sentinel ini am having a very difficult time and i am here right now because i know in my heart, that when i explain what has just happened to me a few minutes ago, you will understand.
many of you are no doubt going through the same thing.. within several posts here, i have spoken of my mother.
my dear sweet mother, who just turned 78, and who has been a faithful jw since 1959. she abandoned me in 1981, when i decided to leave the borg, and for twelve years she did not speak to me, write to me, call me, or visit me.

I am becoming a lot less active here these days, not that I was ever extremely active But to explain, I've found some closure here, have found some good friends, have become a pretty happy monkey, and in the past week have also found some other boards... Much respect to Simon for this forum; as I've said before, I wouldn't be where I am right now if it weren't for this board. I'm sure I will check in & post from time to time, but you can consider me to be 90% lurker as of now... Love to all here, and best wishes.

Let's play Un-Theocratic Ministry School
by Mindchild ini thought it would be a nice break from things to have a little fun and at the same time fine tune our jw repellant skills.
so it is time for another round of un-theocratic ministry school.
for this presentation my fine ex-jw friends, we will play door to door games with dubs.

You're good! What were you a pioneer or something? Maybe you should think about a career as a politician . . .
LOL, yeah, I was a pioneer... SSSHHHHHHH. I'm not proud of it. I don't exactly put it on my resume, if you know what I mean!
...After jgnat slams the door, I loosen my tie, unbutton my collar, and try to massage some of the redness out of my choked face... Decide to go grab a six-pack, watch some cartoons with what is left of Saturday morning, and jot down THREE HOURS' WORTH of field service!!!
