Tell those fools that they are a religious institution and have no secular right to intervene. If that doesn't work, show what Geoffrey Jackson said in the Royal Commission, namely that elders should not intervene in family issues even if child sexual abuse is involved. That should scare them off.

Elders intervening in family issues
by gatorguy indoes anyone know of any good scriptures or reference articles that i can show an elder to hopefully have him stop intervening in a family issue?
i already told him that i am the head of the house and that they're usurping my headship but they didn't seem to get the message.

Welcome to the site.
Your story was very interesting to read. Thank you for sharing it with us.
As many have already mentioned, your JW family will try to convince you to return. Remember that, and always try to understand their side. It will be much easier that way. As far as they are concerned, they have the indisputable truth, which you have left. Also, remember that their indisputable truth is utterly dependent on what the Governing Body says. Don't even try to reason with them from the Scriptures as they will always, whenever proven wrong, rely on the interpretation given to them by the Governing Body. (It's just my friendly advice in regards to wasting time.)
I do hope, however, that your family will respect your decision. Good luck.

"Well now at least they get a ressurection!"
by stuckinarut2 inyes, that is what a witness said after the police shootings and terrible aftermath of violence occurred this week in the usa..... they said that it now gives them a chance to live forever...as if they would not have had that opportunity if they had not been tragically killed..... of course according to witness teachings, the contradictory thing is that if the big a had come a day before, then those same people would have been killed by jehovah because they were not his worshipers.....

Divergent - This is one of the teachings which DID NOT make sense to me. God supposedly DOES NOT desire any to be destroyed, yet goes AGAINST his own desire and punishes GOOD people with everlasting destruction simply because they are not convinced that JW's have the truth?
Exactly. Simply because you disagree with Jehovah's Witnesses, God is out there to get you. When Armageddon comes. What kind of parent does this to his/her child? Interestingly, the answer is easy. Only a JW parent. Coincidence?

Interesting letter. I have no doubt it will go unnoticed. I believe it will bear no fruits. The Watchtower is too far gone already. The Governing Body members believe they have complete authority over their followers. It is indeed sad, but that is the reality. Jehovah's Witnesses believe the Governing Body is the sole channel of communication on earth between them and God, and that it is through them that God presents his will. The only vice of those Jehovah's Witnesses is naiveness.
They have absolute faith that whenever their or somebody else's interpretation of the Bible is inconsistent with what the Governing Body teaches, it is not the fault of the Governing Body. They have absolute faith that the interpretation that the Governing Body presents actually comes from God. It is true that they are forgetting the concept of new light when they dismiss any possible mistakes in their current interpretation. However, that concept never comes into discussion with them before any changes are made. This concept of new light is always discussed and reminded of after those changes. This is why they are so naive.
I certainly do not want you to feel depressed, sad, or sorrowful because of that. However, neither do I want you to get your hopes up. Nothing will change with the Watchtower until the governments take decisive action. Since it is taking place right now, it is true that we might see some changes in policies like the two-witness rule. Nonetheless, I believe nothing beyond that will happen. It is hard to see if the Watchtower would ever forego their current policy of shunning—unless, of course, it were decided by secular authorities that such practice is against human rights and freedom of religion.

Lostandfound - How many of its readers could explain the Babylon book or any scriptural topic?
Well, this is how Watchtower manages Jehovah's Witnesses. Usually, JWs would study one scriptural topic, such as the 1914 prophecy, on one day, and then they would leave this prophecy alone until they'd forget how it worked and are reminded during, for instance, a debate that they no longer remember the prophecy. So, then, they'd reach for Watchtower publications again—and so the cycle continues. Of course, not even once would they look at the outside sources...

Gods' name removed in Silver Sword?
by AmyWatson916 indoes anyone have an explanation about why the silver sword edition of the nwt removed god's name at exodus 34:14?
that verse is now different than the 1984 and 1970 versions of the nwt.
odd for an organization who believes that "god's name is of the utmost importance" as it says on page 195 of the bible teach book..

Mephis - You can't have God wandering around with lots of names if you're pushing the idea that he has only one and it's the most important thing in the bible.
So the whole issue is about God's name being both "Jehovah" and "Jealous" simultaneously? Somehow I don't find it impossible or muddy, if you know what I mean. It's sort of what a person would say today; for example, "Danger is my middle name." Of course, there is a difference between someone's "name" and "middle name," but I think it's just focusing too much on irrelevant details.
Still, it's strange the Watchtower removed it. The part "קַנָּ֣א שְׁמֹ֔ו" from the quote given in my first post clearly means, "whose name is Jealous." I guess it's another one of their attempts to "introduce the new light which commands that the Bible be translated into modern language that has nothing to do with the original." Whatever... I somehow don't care about this one.

AWAKE! NO. 5 2016 - Did Jesus Really Exist?
by ttdtt inso again we go to the quality of evidence used by the wt.. you can read the article here - https://www.jw.org/en/publications/magazines/awake-no5-2016-october/did-jesus-really-exist/.
you see the wt refer to experts with quotes.
as is usually the case the credentials are not represented, just that they are experts (so take their word).

Mephis - Amusingly, Grant wrote a book on the historical Jesus in which his conclusion is that Jesus was an apocalyptic preacher expecting the imminent end of the world. Which didn't arrive.
Well, this is the dominant scholarly view. The Jews began to have those ideas about the imminence of the end of the world around 150 years before Jesus, as far as I remember, so that is what Jesus believed. It seems that he was born into it as much as people today are born into their respective religions—except that Jesus did change quite a few things when he interpreted the Hebrew religion and its sacred texts.
Mephis - The bible is always 100% accurate and correct. Apart from the bits where the writer needs a bit of help from Brooklyn in conveying what he really meant to say...
That is the funniest part of religions. Whenever they try to argue about their beliefs, they always have to say that when author A said B, he really meant C. And when C proves to be inaccurate, as would be the case with prophecies, then it is magically discovered that the author actually meant D. Heck, the generation thing I find so amusing...

why would God and Jesus hate the united nations?

James Mixon - OK so the UN will attack "Babylon the great", and then they will look around and ask, who are we to attack now? JW's our next target. Who??? Man you talk about self-importance and arrogance...
I imagine most would respond with an oblivious question, "Who?" I don't think literally anyone of the people that I know have any idea about what JWs actually believe and teach. But... hey... they'll be persecuted (read: questioned about child sexual abuse, shunning, and refusal of blood transfusions) anyway!

According to God's Kingdom Rules! the "wild beast," meaning the UN, will, with the support of the "ten horns" which allegedly represent all the countries that support the UN, attack and destroy the Babylon the Great. I presume that, according to JW belief, the UN will also attack the "true religion" after the attack on the Babylon the Great turns out to be unsuccessful against the JWs.
Here is the relevant passage from God's Kingdom Rules! ch. 21 ¶6:
Who or what will carry out the attack against “Babylon the Great”? A “wild beast” with “ten horns.” The book of Revelation indicates that this wild beast refers to the United Nations (UN). The ten horns represent all present political powers that support this “scarlet-colored wild beast.” (Rev. 17:3, 5, 11, 12) How devastating will the attack be? The nations of the UN will plunder the prostitute’s wealth, devour her, and “completely burn her.”—Read Revelation 17:16.
