I could easily believe in evolution and God in the context that you provide, but I don't—and for different reasons. I don't believe in the latter because of suffering and overall lack of interaction on God's part with his creation, so I would have to agree with bsmart here. If he did create us, "he walked away 10 minutes later."

I believe in Evolution and that God created life
by Crabby inanyone else also hold this view or understand it at least, or do you feel the need to argue that both can in no way coexist?.

Why do so many JW's argue that they do not believe what they clearly do?
by Crabby ini ask a question recently, which was why do jw's not salute the flag, and i ask what page of the bible directs this practice.. all i got back was that i do not know what i am talking about and that they are allowed to do this, when i dropped 40000 google links proving that they do not salute the flag they just deleted it as though my proof could not exist.
seriously this is common knowledge, my neighbor just put up a flag to keep the guy across the street away.
so are there jw's who have no clue what they believe, or should believe?

The Witnesses I have been around could answer this type of question without a problem. It doesn't mean that I'd agree with them, but in my area, they can explain their own theology rather easily.

Convicted Child Rapist Proselytizing. Is the Community Aware? Is the Community Safe?
by freemindfade inwow, this is awesome.
this really shows the jw passiveness towards child sex abusers.

Plastic Surgery
by raven inhi everyone- i don't have much of an update on my current situation ( refer to previous posts ) august 1st has past, (the day the judicial committee was supposedly held against me- and that i didn't attend, no word on anything as of now, thankfully i am moving to a new home next week which means no more elders sending me spooky jc invite mail!
anyways, i'm getting off the main reason why i'm posting.. so i have tendency to drift off into thought and have discussions with myself, ( i'm not crazy i swear!
) i was thinking today, have we heard any more updates on appearances?

Bonsai - My wife used to get counseled a lot in the KH and get summoned into the back room on account of her dresses being hot pink or orange or any other loud color that she preferred ( that's a big no no for Japanese JWs).
Is there something in the Japanese culture about the significance (or whatever else) of such colours? If so, would it be the culture of the elderly people or the culture of the young people? Or is it something that the Japanese Jehovah's Witnesses completely made up on their own, presumably while on drugs?

Paranormal Warning
by Cold Steel ini've heard some weird stories coming from jws about the paranormal.
i know about the warnings about items that come from unbelievers -- those don't interest me as much.
what i am interested in are actual experiences in stories of the paranormal you've heard or experienced yourself.

Is Pokemon Demonic?
by Saename in[spoiler: pokemon is an invitation to communication with or possession by demons because... well... pokemon comes from demons.
so... i was looking through different questions on quora, and i noticed one that read, "is pokemon demonic?
" i was interested in seeing what people have to say, especially that not so long ago there was a thread (or a post in a thread?

Crabby - No, it's a money making scam as once you get to a certain level you have to pay.
I've never played Pokemon GO (I assume you're referring to Pokemon GO), so I wouldn't know about that. But I'm not surprised. Thanks for letting me know either way.

[Spoiler: Pokemon is an invitation to communication with or possession by demons because... well... Pokemon comes from demons. We all know that, right?]
So... I was looking through different questions on Quora, and I noticed one that read, "Is Pokemon demonic?" I was interested in seeing what people have to say, especially that not so long ago there was a thread (or a post in a thread?) that talked about Jehovah's Witnesses and Pokemon. Do Jehovah's Witnesses condemn Pokemon? What do they think of it?
Up until now I heard nothing but silence...
So... well... in this question, I saw a very interesting answer (okay, maybe not necessarily interesting...). The style of writing seemed to be Jehovah's Witness-like, and when I checked the user's other answers, sure enough, it turned out the guy is a Jehovah's Witness.
Please enjoy what this Jehovah's Witness had to say about whether Pokemon is demonic (and please do look at the comments!): Is Pokemon Demonic? Jehovah's Witness Answers Your Concerns!

After Jesus fasted for 40 days, he was tempted by a man (not a fallen angel).
by quincemyles inafter jesus fasted for 40 days, he was tempted by a man (not an evil angel) to turn stones into bread, jump from the temple and bow.
the tester was a pharisee of the ruling class.
jehovah's witnesses believe the tester to have been an evil spirit or leader of fallen angels named satan the devil.

OrphanCrow - So your definition of "serious scholar" is simply measured by whether or not his position supports yours
No, I did not say that. I've had to change my positions a number of times in the past. In the case of historicity of Jesus, I don't take Carrier seriously because of the footwork he does to get to his conclusions—for instance when he argued that Paul believed that Jesus was always a celestial figure, that he never walked on earth. To claim this position, he has to convince people how Galatians doesn't say what it says. I suspect his judgement in this case is clouded by his anti-theist stance.

cofty - So why did you claim there are no serious scholars who reject the historicity of Jesus?
Because I never considered him a serious scholar. His arguments were never convincing, and I do believe he does a lot of "footwork" to get to his conclusions. But as I said, I will revisit his arguments and try to take him more seriously.
