Do you remember maybe where you and Tenacious had this conversation on evolution?

slimboyfat, are you a proponent of epistemological relativism? This is a vibe I'm getting, especially since cofty's comment that you would not even say that the earth is not flat because it is from the worm's point of view.
If you're not a proponent of this view, how would you specifically define a fact?

It's possible that I'm a brain in a vat, and that none of you exist but are the product of my imagination. Should this mean that nothing I know is actually a fact?
Similarly, all life on earth shares a common ancestor, and as far as we know, it's a fact. It's possible we're wrong, obviously, but there's no evidence to suggest that.

Whether he is contradicting himself is beyond the point. It's irrelevant. What's relevant is that you're lying by misquoting him. (And I literally—in the literal sense of "literally"—almost never accuse others of lying... It's extremely rare for me to do that.) He did say that any detailed account of evolution of any biochemical or cellular system is wishful speculation, but in the next sentence he says that such an account is yet to be discovered—that it will be discovered. You're quoting him to imply that it's a fault of evolution, but that's not what he meant at all.
(And he also said that we must reject intelligent design, which is a vital part of this quote...)

Nimble duck - Evolutionary biochemist Franklin Harold wrote, “we must concede that there are presently no detailed Darwinian accounts of the evolution of any biochemical or cellular system, only a variety of wishful speculations.”
And right before that he said that we must reject intelligent design... I wonder how it is that you missed that part? It's from his book The Way of the Cell. When he said that, he didn't mean to imply that evolution is false or anything of the sort. He simply meant that there is still room for discovery. In fact, the very next sentence reads, "There is room for discovery here."
I love misquotes. Those are the easiest to discredit...

Doing your own research
by Reazon22 inwe all know watchtower doesn't encourage their members do research for themselves.
can anyone point out any articles where it mentions this?
any help would be appreciated.

The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah’s Kingdom dated 1987, Nov. 1, entitled, “Does Superstition Affect Your Life?” on page 20, paragraph 16 of this magazine says the following:
Interestingly, a circuit overseer in France observes: ‘Some brothers are deceived because they lack accurate knowledge.’ That is why Proverbs 11:9 states: ‘By knowledge are the righteous rescued.’ This does not mean giving apostates a hearing ear or delving into their writings. Rather, it means coming to ‘an accurate knowledge of the sacred secret of God’ through diligent personal study of the Bible and the Society’s Bible-based publications.Having this accurate knowledge, who would become so curious as to pay any attention to apostate mouthings? May no man ‘delude you with persuasive arguments’! (Colossians 2:2-4) False religious propaganda from any source should be avoided like poison! Really, since our Lord has used ‘the faithful and discreet slave’ to convey to us ‘sayings of everlasting life,’ why should we ever want to look anywhere else?—John 6:68.
Here is a quote from The Watchtower—Study Edition dated 2012, May 15, ¶13, entitled, “Are You Reflecting the Glory of Jehovah?”:
Jehovah hates sin, and so should we. Indeed, we ought to move as far away from wrongdoing as possible and not see how close we can get to it without being overcome by sin. For instance, we need to guard against succumbing to apostasy, a sin that would make us unfit to glorify God. (Deut. 13:6–9) Let us therefore have nothing to do with apostates or anyone who claims to be a brother but who is dishonoring God. This should be the case even if he is a family member. (1 Cor. 5:11) We are not benefited by trying to refute the arguments of apostates or those who are critical of Jehovah’s organization. In fact, it is spiritually dangerous and improper to peruse their information, whether it appears in written form or it is found on the Internet.
Oh, just in case you want more proof... Comin’ right up!
Also, you can use their own library against them. Under this link, you can find 29 articles, under the entries "attitude of Witnesses toward apostates" and "avoiding apostasy," discouraging Witnesses from viewing apostate sources.

Perry, you just lost all respect. I was fine whenever I saw your topics on how the Bible should be interpreted. But this? Young earth creationism?
Sure, you have the freedom to believe what you want, but you should know that this is extraordinarily ridiculous. Your beliefs deserve the mockery they receive.

Last Memorial Experiences
by NoviceLocs14 ini'll share mine first.... i had never missed a memorial for at least a quarter of a century of my life.
i was kind of raised to believe that missing the memorial was a sin in itself.. by 2013 memorial season, i was missing most of my meetings (even though i was still technically part of my foreign language congregation), and i had just come off the pioneer list.
i still made plans to attend the memorial (god forbid if i missed that lol).. i knew that typically our memorials were around 9 pm, since we usually got last priority (being a foreign language hall and all).

If you have any questions, take it up with your local priest.
I never went to church, but I suppose I'll have to talk to somebody knowledgeable about that. I'm curious how Christians who believe in evolution reconcile that with the notion of soul and the original sin.

Evolution is a Fact #40 - What Use is Half an Eye?
by cofty increationists often refer to the words of darwin when he pondered the evolution of the complex eye.
he said that to suppose that the complex eye evolve by natural selection seems "absurd in the highest possible degree".
what they always ignore is that darwin went right on in the very next sentence to propose how the eye could have evolved and that numerous gradations must exist between the simplest light detecting organs and the complex vertebrate eye.. in the 150 years since darwin published his book not only have those gradations been discovered in the natural world but the very genes that build the eye have been discovered by science.
