Yes, double standards are practiced. I also wanted to grow a beard but was told I'd look like a Muslim. (Wth?) They argue that in the Western culture (North America, for instance) beards are not appropriate, which is complete bullsh**. All you need to do in Canada is go outside, and you'll see dozens of people with beards, and nobody bothers them in any way. When I was in high school, there were also plenty of Canadian students with beards. Nobody cared. Our culture does accept beards, so I have no idea what the hell is wrong with Jehovah's Witnesses and their brains.

Brother with a beard on jw.org!
by neat blue dog inok, slight exaggeration: specifically, an official recording of the july 25th, 2016 midweek meeting in german sign language downloaded from stream.jw.org, (log-in required), includes a brother with a beard giving one of the talks:.

What is the purpose of life?
by slimboyfat inwhile reading the magazines the other day it occurred to me that jws never really had a very good answer to that question.
because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".
i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.

Brokeback Watchtower - You imaginary friend is pretty untouchable how are you supposed to get him to go to court? Will he just voluntarily go or do we have to send the police after him?
Hopefully he isn't black. A dead god isn't of much use, is he now?By the way, when did this conversation about the purpose of life became a fight about whether god is a murderer? There are too many pages of comments here, so I didn't really feel like reading it all... (Maybe tomorrow?)

Daily Legal News: 9th District partially reverses Jehovah’s Witnesses molestation suit - (Zalkin case. Decision mostly in Plaintiff's favor)
by AndersonsInfo in9th district partially reverses jehovah’s witnesses molestation suit.
tracey blairlegal news reporter published: september 20, 2016. a lorain county trial court erred when it ordered the west congregation of jehovah’s witnesses to produce certain documents for discovery in a child molestation case.. however, the trial court was correct in concluding the majority of documents that were compelled are not protected from disclosure via the clergy-penitent privilege or the first amendment, according to a recent decision by the 9th district court of appeals.. former west congregation member elizabeth mcfarland sued the lorain-based church in 2013 for negligence, ratification and fraud by omission/concealment.. according to case summary, mcfarland was a member of west congregation from 1997 to 2001, when she was 10 to 14 years old.
mcfarland’s parents told church elders that scott silvasy, a fellow member, had molested their daughter for several years.. silvasy died in 2003. mcfarland claimed elders never disciplined him or reported the issue to their superiors, and discouraged her parents from doing so.. in her suit, mcfarland said church elders were aware silvasy had previously molested a minor and was a danger to her.

This week's WT study article "Keep on the Watch" - the latest dumb article from the Gang That Couldn't Think Straight
by sir82 inok so this week's wt study article is entitled "why must we keep on the watch?"..
it is filled with statements on the importance of "being watchful" for the beginning of the "great tribulation".
paragraph 2: “keep looking, keep awake, for you do not know when the appointed time is.”after that, jesus admonished them repeatedly: “keep on the watch.”.

neverendingjourney - The thing that bothers me the most concerning this topic is the following:
- The last days commenced in 1914
- Armageddon didn't come immediately because people had to be warned and given a chance to get good with God before God destroyed the wicked
- 102 years have elapsed since Jesus' enthronement
What's the point in having a 102 year warning period? All the people who were reached by the Bible Students during the 1910s are now dead. That's especially true for the people who read the Watchtower back in the 1880s.
It seems to me that on its face the reasoning behind the 102 year gap logically falls apart. There is no reason for having a century long warning period.
Couldn't God found a way to warn mankind, say in 10-15 years? Wasn't the early preaching work a waste of time given the fact that those people died before Armageddon. Isn't that like warning your next door neighbors that their house will burn down 100 years from now? Who cares?
Interesting. Never thought of that.

Thanks for providing the translation. I'm amazed at Janet's reasoning: “I have hope that, if my son should die, I will see him again in paradise because the Bible says so and Jehovah is God and not a human who would lie" [emphasis added].
It's good the government intervened. As alanv mentioned, this two-year-old child has no say in this regard; not giving him life-saving blood transfusion is like baptising infants who have no idea what is happening, which, rather ironically, Jehovah's Witnesses are opposed against. This child would have died without having a say because of his age.
I am not even going to add to that the parents' willful ignorance in regards to anemia. Anemia is one of those diseases which pretty much require blood transfusions.

I've been in love with a Jehovah Witness without knowing it for a long time, he hid it from everyone.
by sakurafeathers inhello :) so i know this guy for almost 6 years, i met him when i was 15 and i felt in love.
now i’m 21 and he is 22. we were in the same class and got along very well and he seemed to like me too.
when i confessed, face to face he haven't admitted and he haven't denied it and he acted like he liked me too but couldn't be with me because reasons bigger than him, but i was too young to understand and he was young to handle the pressure he had.

Unless he stops attending the meetings and fades (I hope you know the term), do not bother starting a relationship with him. Everything LisaRose wrote in her post is true. I have to confirm that a life with a Jehovah's Witness is incredibly hard. Does it work out for some people? Well, yes, it does; I've seen that myself. However, it's extremely rare. In most cases, the couple ends up separating and divorcing.
Consider LisaRose's questions seriously. What will you do if and when you have children? Other Jehovah's Witnesses will pressure him and subsequently "force" him to teach your kids "the truth." He will be pressured to take your kids to the Kingdom Hall, where they will be taught that blood transfusions and holidays, such as Christmas and Halloween, are bad and forbidden. They will be taught that you, as an unbeliever, are controlled by Satan. That stuff can break your heart. And even if you won't have children, as LisaRose pointed out, you will have to celebrate holidays on your own, without him. When you'll start living together and decide to invite his friends (Jehovah's Witnesses) to your place for a meal, any conversations will be centered around their beliefs. Your guy may not try to convert you, but his friends would certainly attempt to do that. That would be an incredibly hard life.
Unless he fades and leaves this religion, do not bother. I repeat; do NOT try to have a relationship with him. Don't take my words as a harsh commandment, though. Take it as a friendly advice from the community of ex-Jehovah's Witnesses who have years of experience with the cult. It almost never works out in real life.
