  hello all.... i am new here so i figured i'd make a quick post introducing myself and giving a brief intro as to who i am and what i'm here for... as well as to hopefully meet others.. so, i made a profile and in it i gave a pretty detailed explanation as to my intent here and exactly why i decided to participate in the boards.

  in case you don't read it, i'll give a brief summary.

  If you're still visiting the website, which I assume you do not since you learned its users are mostly ex-Jehovah's Witnesses, try to learn about child sexual abuse in the religion. I understand that child sexual abuse can happen in every religion because of bad individuals who happen to be sexual predators; however, it is not the case with Jehovah's Witnesses. The problem in this religion is not that certain individuals abuse children; the main problem is that the religion itself and its administrative policies are there to protect paedophiles.

  I suggest you to learn about the Australian Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and what it has determined in regards to the Jehovah's Witness religion.   In addition to the above, a similar investigation is being led in the UK. In the UK, the organisation of Jehovah's Witnesses were told and directly ordered by the Charity Commission not to destroy any evidence in regards to child sexual abuse situation in the religion. However, the leaders of the organisation, called the Governing Body, sent a letter to the elders in the UK commanding them to destroy all evidence of child sexual abuse.   Big Day fast approaching Letting go

  the big day is two days away when she will say "i do".

  i knew this day would come someday but as a mom you just want to hold on even though i did everything to train her to be very independent.

  she has been making most of her own decisions since middle school.. she moved away 5 years ago but still was totally mine till 2 years ago when mr. wonderful appeared in her life.

  hi all, just recently i was thinking about the period of my study and eventual baptism as jw.

  it took many years, i guess in all about 10 years.

  various times i stopped the study but after a while it started again.

  If a JW Came To Your Door How Would You Handle It?

  jehovah's witnesses have never come to my door but they have come to my girlfriends door.

  i have coached her as to what to say or ask but it appears that they always seem to come when she's not there.

  .....just curious would you get into it with a jehovah's witness at your door especially if it was someone you did not know?.

  Just say, "Add me to your 'Do-Not-Call list.' I wish to never again be visited by Jehovah's Witnesses." Then you may politely say "Goodbye" and close the door.

  Any attempts at arguing or even civil-mannerly debating with them will not work. Also, simply stating that you already have a religion or that you are not interested will as well be unsuccessful endeavors to get rid of them. Jehovah's Witnesses take that to mean that you are not currently interested in their theology. They are "concerned" about your safety during the Armageddon and so will visit you again after some time—unless, of course, you make it clear to them that they should add you to their "Do-Not-Call list." It's a list that forbids Jehovah's Witnesses from knocking at the marked people's doors.

  steve2 - I have yet to meet any JW under 60 who is even remotely interested in Biblical history to engage in any discussion whatsoever - even to simply "get" how the organization's date (607 BCE) disagrees with the evidence-based date (586 BCE).

  This duck is dead in the water even before hunting season.

  I was that Jehovah's Witness. I studied Biblical history, and it is one of the reasons why I'm not a Jehovah's Witness anymore. But to be fair, more credit should probably go to my studying the issues behind the Watchtower such as child sexual abuse (which ultimately convinced me of being wrong) rather than Biblical history itself... Still, it remains at least one of the reasons.

  Who has the authority to decern what the bible really teaches?

  so i ask because of all the books, mags and testimonies that the wts promotes.

  not only the wts, but many other christians attempt to speak about the bible with authority.

  how do we measure who is an authority if we don't know that much?.

  first - if you hope to become an elder, in the uk you will also become a charitable trustee.
