  can we earn our salvation by preaching?

  are you trying to earn salvation by your door-to-door ministry?no.

  we engage regularly in our door-to-door ministry, but we dont believe that we earn our salvation by doing such work.

  (ephesians 2:8) why not?.

  Salvation is by grace, given to us free of charge. But we need to maintain it, by preaching the gospel (not door to door specifically - tonnes of other ways eg via our live testimonies, what others can see through our lives, etc). Even if we preach out of the motive to earn salvation - that does not earn us salvation.

  Matthew 7

  21 "Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

  24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

  And what is the greatesrcommandment of God?

  Mark 12

  29 "The most important one," answered Jesus, "is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[e] 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'[f] 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'[g] There is no commandment greater than these."

  Look carefully at John 3:16:

  16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

  He sent His son because He LOVES first. Thus, doesn't it mean that we ought to love first before we go preach the gospel and save souls? The motive has got to be out of love and not because we want to earn salvation, or any other reasons. Other than love be the motive, those that preach the gospel will be like this mentioned in Matthew 7:21

  i've been browsing and reading threads here for a while.

  i am never a jw, i am in a relationship with an inactive one, who in fact is in the middle (not knowing what to believe anymore).

  i have read some of the threads here about stories of those who have experience with jws and mostly ended up hurt but there also some who made it.. and some of the threads/info/works that you all have done here are really great!.

  Yes, thinking about that too, do not want to bring my kid to this world and into the cult. We had some intense argument after I found out what the JW cult is really about. We tried to discussed frankly about some issues and it made him really depressed, partly because he got into argument with his JW parents after that. I guess fear of being shunned could be the main factor.

  Since then we stopped talking about that but I still asked some subtle questions and encouraging him in his pursuit for higher education. I'm getting as much ideas and ways as possible to subtly help him think. And as for myself, there are still many things that I don't quite understand about the doctrines and how it contradicts with the Bible etc. Learning & researching still... and praying!

  Need Advice. Quick.

  i apologize for being absent for so long.

  i've got a jw at my house right now (unexpectedly) who is talking to my husband.

  he keeps on bringing up that only jw's have universal love....that if you go anywhere in the world, you can mention you're a witness & you'll automatically be welcomed and accepted by fellow jw's.

  The bigger question is WHY we love !

  Is it mandated by a cult !

  Is it the result of the gift of the Holy Spirit...!

  It has to be the fruit of the Holy Spirit. If it is the act of "love" out of obligation to some instructions or for self gain (could be out of fear (fear of going to hell or die in the big A, obligation, for fame, assurance, attention or whatever motives), it isn't love at all. Matthew 7:21-27 says it, especially verse 22. And what is "doing the will of God" means? What is His will? The greatest commandment Matthew 22:36-39. If one has no conviction to do good works (motivated by love for others), then don't waste time doing it.

  i am new to here so please be bear with me.. i have always believed in god, but was never baptised, my parents wanted me to make up my own mind religon wise.. i am thinking of becoming a jw and am just needing some advice on how to do this, bible study and jw beliefs.

  This is a verse for you:

  Jesus said: Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28)

  Just come to him as you are with all your problems and troubles. Give them all to Jesus.

  How do you feel after you read what Templelijah posted. I found it depressing. That is what you're gonna get when you become one of them, they'll keep feeding you with these stuffs.
