Last I was in they said the literature was free but we should donate what we felt it was worth. I can remember one brother from the platform saying a modern bible goes for 30 to 40 dollars and we should donate that if we get one. There were hoping for more than what they used to charge for the propaganda.

“You know how I know that they're finished out there? The carts.”
by Athanasius inthe watchtower's many legal problems and the jws' use of carts in their preaching work, reminded me of a scene and dialog from the film patton.. in a scene where patton is viewing a battle site the morning after, he says to an aide about the nazis: “you know how i know that they're finished out there?
in my dreams i saw the carts.
they kept buzzing around in my head and i couldn't figure out why.

There are so many things that are different today than in the past even from 20 years ago. The JWs enjoyed growth when many people were farm based, bible loving and very ignorant of the world at large. People to know a history of a group like the cult would have to go to a library and if it even had any books on the cult they would be few and far between. The history one would have to dig into older JW publications and it would be an exhausting task. This was true for many many years. Even in the 70s after the 75 debacle some of us saw personally it was still hard to find out about as the older publications were not that easy to find. Some Halls may have some but I never saw a hall that had more than a small amount of older publications. Then came the internet. It not only connected people who had dug and found bits and pieces but we could put all those bits together, people started to connect and write books and look deeper. It really has only been about 20 years we have had the information we now do. Where one can at a finger tip find out so much history of the cult. There are videos that are very well done that give an over all history of the cult we could not even dream of 35 years ago. So today some JW knocks at your door and tells you the end is near and you go to your phone or laptop after they leave and type in Jehovah's witness and find out all the lies and false teachings and know they are nuts. 50 years ago its not even possible to find any thing on their history. I remember going to a door with my Brother in law. The guy had a book on the JWs by William Schnell 30 years a watchtower slave. He gave it to us after pointing out some things to look at. My brother in law took the book and was very confused. We went to elder assuptight and he took the book and told us that Schnell would send brothers out in service and then call the police on them so he could bail them out to look like a hero. I believe he made this shit up just to throw us off the trail. We never saw the book again. That was the only time in my 35 years of being with the JWs we even had anything critical of the cult given to us.

Our Spiritual Heritage of Failed Expectations
by neat blue dog inlast sunday's watchtower tells the story of a man who:.
was baptized in 1908 at the age of 20. he was very confident that he would soon receive his reward.
in fact, when he proposed marriage in 1911, he told his prospective bride, pearl: “you know what is going to happen in 1914. if we are going to get married, we better do it soon!” did this christian couple give up the race for life when they did not receive their heavenly reward in 1914?

Its very difficult to change the mind of a cult member. It has to come from within. You can have the best argument with the most proof and if they don't want to hear it its a waste of time. The best thing we who are out can do is not to bring others out of the cult. They have to do that them self. But to stop others from getting into the cult. Break the cycle before it starts.

With these 2 long term building projects will it FINALLY wake up some jdub's?
by nowwhat? inwith the ramped up rhetoric the last few years many were totally convinced the end would be here by 2019-20 .
and instead of making due, the org.
has burdened the brothers once again to donate and volunteer for the new and improved patterson and video production center to be completed by 2026!

Ruin those Ruining th Earth
by peacefulpete init has been mentioned before but since we have been discussing environmental issues on another thread, i thought it might be timely to discuss rev 11:18 which has recently become a popular text for those christians concerned about environmental threats of pollution and climate change.
is this passage being interpreted correctly?
did the writer somehow anticipate the modern environmental situation, or did he intend something more in keeping with the bible's general concerns of morality and sin?.

Its more twisting of the facts after the prediction. Just like in 1914 WW1 was never predicted but it was glomed onto to support the date. Its like a psychic saying tomorrow a ship will sink and a plane crashes and you say see I am spot on.

For me an most all those I know it was a processes. There is no waking up one day and saying its fake. It takes a lot of research to find its history. That was pre internet. Now its easier and faster to do so.

We live better today than at any time in history. We now have an avg LE of around 82, 200 years ago maybe 35. What would only be for the very wealth now the most poor have TV, AC food ect all brought to you by fossil fuel. The issue is not what or how we consume, its the population pure and simple. You can not put 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag. There are 8 billion people on the planet and growing. Does not matter if everyone only threw out a quart jar a week of trash at some point the shear amount of people doing it will out weigh the ability of our environment to keep up. So all this we need solar, Wind BS does not mean crap. What we get from oil most idiots who say we need to get off of it don't know what we get from it. They think Gas and cars and live in a city where they don't drive. Well we get everything from Tooth paste to the soles of your shoes from oil. From the pesticides that keep crops from being decimated to the plane the few you to see your family. Solar and wind will not give us what we need to live like we do. If nature does not kill off a lot of humans by disease or something else and we keep expanding uncontrolled it will end badly. My prediction is we will see it end badly I just hope its past my sell by date.
