At least he spoke in (mostly) coherent sentences. It would be great if someone could synch his mouth with an old Hitler speech, or vice versa.

dewayne dedmon: center for san antonio spurs, grew up a JW.
by nowwhat? ini was watching the cavaliers- spurs game last night and the announcers mentioned how dedmonds mom was a devout jw.
and she wouldn't allow her son to play high school basketball because it would take away from service to the church.
so fortunately he turned 18 for his senior year , so he didn't need parental consent to play.

Nice to see someone reach their potential. He''ll never have to say "what if" no matter what the future brings. So much better than the lame stories you see in the Watchtower about high school kids who supposedly (In their dreams!) gave up future professional sports careers for Jehovah.

Punkofnice. Great approach! Being non-confrontational keeps them from shutting down, and allows you to slip in ideas that might make them think a little.

Pseudo history in Watchtower today 😂
by Gorbatchov ingorby went to the kh for family reasons today.. and landed right away middle in a pseudo history watchtower article.
just that aspect of the jw belief he is so sensative about.. so 1918 and 1919 are changed with one mark of a pencil.
the argument of change was in the past the argument of the doctrine.

Maybe they can prove that the parousia actually occurred in 1931, when God gave them a new name. This will allow them to return to the old understanding of "this generation", buying them more time.

Women's March on Washington
by azor inmy support is with the marchers in washington and around the country today.
i was raised through my formative years by my mother and sister while my father was out of the picture.
they gave me the compassion i have today.

I think it's funny how the conservatives brag about their grass roots movements, and triumphing over their elite counterparts by the strength of their convictions, and making their voices known.
When someone else does it, it's useless whining and not facing up to facts.

So, the Womens March ... What Is It For?
by Simon init seems like mobilizing after the election, which seems pointless.
i keep hearing demands for equal rights but don't understand what rights they are missing exactly.. normally a march is to show the support (and potential votes) for a cause, but ... votes for what?
... and the election happened already.. is anyone else confused?

Maybe it's just me, but I think the protest marches in the 60's accomplished a lot. And reading my history, I see many of the same thoughts expressed about the uselessness of those marches.
I'm not saying that misogyny results in the same injustices that racial prejudice does, but anyone who denies that women aren't discriminated against is in another universe.
As seen in the White House Press conference this morning, all Trump cared about was whether he had more people at his inauguration. Obviously the march bothered the new administration.
It kind of makes me sad when people on this site give the old "well I agree that women are discriminated against and blah blah blah blah blah, but what good does all this protest do?"
I think it shows that there are still people who are determined to fight for their rights.

I don't dispute that women supposedly have the same rights as men, but if society in general doesn't actually believe it, then we'll keep seeing the subtle discrimination that pervades our societies.
I believe that there is an endemic patriarchal, religious, misogynist culture that exists in the United States that Trump's election brought to light.
I think the protests are an attempt to bring attention to this, to make sure it doesn't morph into actual legislative actions to remove some of the rights that women fought for in the past. In that respect, maybe this could be considered a preemptive protest by women, to make sure the conservatives realize woman have a voice, and won't stand by if they see an erosion of what they worked so hard to achieve.
Despite what he says, Trump has no respect for women in general, and I don't want his attitude to become accepted as "normal".

This discussion just proves the wisdom of that old Paul Simon song. "A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest". I too fall into that category, tending to disbelieve most of Trump's rhetoric.
However, I respect everyone's right to their opinion. Why don't all just agree to disagree, and move on to more constructive conversations.
