  1914 to be abandoned around 2016

  the other day i was doing some research about "1914" for a friend on my wt cd library (spanish) and i found it quite interesting that the number of times "1914" is mentioned in the watchtower magazine during the previous 3 decades has been dropping exponentially as follows.... 1980-1989: mentioned 854 times.

  1990-1999: mentioned 492 times.

  2000-2009: mentioned 222 times.

  Without the coincidence of 1914 and WW1, I can't see any way they can claim to be God's channel. It's the only time that a prediction sort of came true that they could tie into the whole theme of being chosen by Jehovah. Of course, this would also destroy the whole 607 timeline, further laying bare the whole rickety construct. They'd be left with the argument that they were chosen because they say so. Not very convincing.

  No, I definitely think they have to keep 1914 and repackage it to fit some new light that also includes the overlapping generation. Maybe even more refinement on the old faithfull and discreet slave bit. Who knows?

  The handling of child abuse allegations

  there's a lot of criticism surrounding the jw's handling of chiild abuse within their ranks with a lot of it being well deserved.

  but i'm interested to know how people on here think child abuse allegations should be handled.

  there's a few scenarios below, the first couple are easy then it gets a bit more complex.

  When a crime has been alleged, it must be reported to the police. The victim and the elders have no idea whether someone has abused in the past, or will abuse in the future. The authorities are equipped to deal with this.

  By not reporting, the people involved become accomplices in the crime, and should be held responsible for any damage resulting from their inaction.

  went out with my family and all they talked about was how terrible trump is and how he'll surely bring the great tribulation.

  then they started going on about people supporting trump showing that america is becoming racist.

  i don't consider myself a trump supporter but i disagreed that that was the reason why he won.

  Given that much of the Bible is extremely right- wing, it's not surprising that many lean that way. The love and empathy shown by Christ is only given lip service, and even then, only to ones like themselves.

  The popularity fad of home-schooling!

  i know this has been discussed over the years on this forum, but i just had to post this again!.

  it seems that the popular fad amongst the "spiritual" ones in the local circuits is to home school their children instead of sending them to school.. now to clarify, we are in a very nice area of semi rural australia .

  one with very community minded, and strong family values.

  The only articulate, socially adjusted adolescent in my congregation came into the Organization at the age of 17. The homeschooled children are awkward around strangers and barely literate. They only excell in video games.

  Ray Franz gave an example (I'm paraphrasing this) of a mother feeding her children tainted food, then when they get ill, saying they shouldn't have eaten it. I think that's the gist of it. Does anyone have the exact quote?

  Australia TV's Bride & Prejudice’s Forbidden Wedding Dilemma

  it's a world away from the dating shows and cooking competitions commercial tv networks are stacking their schedules with right now.

  but on channel 7's bride & prejudice, we meet couples whose families are dead set against their relationships.

  and it's a heartbreaker..... it was at love at first sight for sydney couple chris, 39, and grant, 32. grant's parents have always accepted his homosexuality; however chris's parents have struggled and remain uncomfortable with his way of life.

  Love and commitment are the two foundations of a happy marriage. If two people share those values, what difference does sex have to do with it? It's sad that families can't accept that because of prejudice.

  Besides, I think Grant and Chris are a fabulous looking couple!
