I believe that 1919 is being emphasized to draw importance away from Russel's prophecy of 1914, and transfer legitimacy to Rutherford.

1919 a Date with Zero Prophetic Meaning
by JW_Rogue ini've noticed that lately the wt has been using the date 1919 more often.
in an almost matter of fact way, they will state that this is the year jesus finished refining his people and appointed the fds.
the only problem is there is little proof or even prophetic antitypes given for why this must have been the year.

UC Berkeley orders cancellation of Ann Coulter speech
by freemindfade inuc berkeley administrators canceled a scheduled speech by right-wing pundit ann coulter, saying they can’t protect participants from rioting if it goes ahead.
http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/uc-berkeley-orders-cancellation-of-ann-coulter-11084299.php.
now i am no ann coulter fan (although the sjw police on here will accuse me of being a fan shortly after posting this), but i am a fan of free speech!

Not a good thing at all. Free speech is something that should be sacred above all. On the other hand, Berkeley is kind of caught between a rock and a hard place, having to weigh which action will generate the worst publicity, cancelling the talk, or chancing a riot.

Does anyone have any idea of the average cost of a Kingdom Hall in third world countries? Surely the sales in New York and other places should cover those. Warwick couldn't have sucked up all the money!

Baseball: Jackie Robinson in Cuba
by Hecce inshould jackie robinson's widow, rachel robinson, go to estadio latinoamericana in havana on tuesday, she'll see a game at the same site where her husband played 69 years ago just before breaking baseball's color barrier.. rachel robinson and her daughter, sharon, traveled to havana sunday aboard air force one for president obama's historic visit to cuba, including tuesday's exhibition game between the tampa bay rays and the cuban national baseball team.. jackie robinson's groundbreaking 1947 major-league season began with spring training in cuba as a member of the brooklyn dodgers' class aaa montreal royals farm team, playing games at what was then called el gran stadium.. as a kid growing up in cuba in the 1940s and '50s, my father, cesar, attended games there, watching his favorite team, almendares, one of havana's four professional baseball teams that played in the cuban league every winter.. the cuban league, which debuted in 1878, had been integrated since 1900 with white major- and minor-league players having negro league players and black cubans as teammates every winter..
it was the reason then-dodgers' president branch rickey relocated the team's spring training base from jim crow-era daytona beach, fla., to havana in 1947 as he prepared to elevate robinson to the majors.. .
my father didn't get the chance to see robinson play in cuba, but he saw many others, including future hall of famers ray dandridge, monte irvin and tommy lasorda and a then-little known dodgers minor league player named kevin connors, who would go on to find more fame as hollywood actor chuck connors in the rifleman.. when i was a kid, i would listen to my father's stories about the different american players — both black and white — who would play in cuba each winter.

There's a terrific documentary about Robinson by Ken Burns that I watched recently on PBS. In particular, the interviews with Rachel Robinson give you insight into his character and struggles that many other bio-pics miss.I highly recommend it.

JW Double Standards and Hypocrisy in the Congregation!!!
by Christian Gutierrez ini am sure you have stories as well of elders being a hard ass on many, yet turning a blind eye to the 'sins' of their own family or close connections.
cheers everyone!

My sister worked in an office where the dress code had to be changed because one worker was wearing very risque clothing. Turned out to be the daughter of an elder in my congregation, who recently moved back in with Mom and Dad with her two children, after an ill-advised marriage. In the past she has been given counsel for wearing incredibly high heels on the platform.

If we are further away from perfection, why are we more moral?
by stuckinarut2 inas we know, witnesses teach that adam and eve were perfect and then committed the first act of sin and rebellion.. they in turn were cursed, and we all declined as their offspring.
humans supposedly lived shorter and shorter lives, and became more imperfect and sinful.. the further away in time humans go then, they should be getting worse.
so why is it then that as a society, humans have actually improved in so many ways?.

And the way my son has developed with modern technology is far from sub-humun. He is kind, loving, knows his identity and we love each other.
This is so true. My son interacts with people all over the world. He has friends in many countries, with the same interests, and has learned how much we have in common with others.
We also share with each other the interesting things we find on line, favorite comedians, movies, music, and a host of other things. We have a much better relationship than I had with my father.
Like anything, It's what you make of technology that can shape who you are. I think that we're more moral because we now have the ability see the world as a whole, and have empathy for others that couldn't exist in a society with less real time access to the problems and successes that shape the world. I know more about people and cultures than my parents did, and see the world through different eyes. I can care about the well-being of people that, in the past, I would not have known existed.

Jehovah Witnesses View on medical marijuana?
by Slade1224 ini was wondering what the view jehovah witnesses and the bible and tract society had on medical cannabis?
i remember as a kid reading in the reasoning book that marijuana was bad and smoking it caused cancer and was worse then cigarettes.
as more reach comes out we are leaning marijuana can cure certain forms of cancer!

I think that as time goes by and marijuana use becomes a part of mainstream culture, the stigma will fade and the younger witnesses will consider it no worse than alcohol.

I'm surprised that China hasn't tried to covertly remove the present wacky President of North Korea and replace him with someone more stable. At this point, a puppet with limited nuclear capability seems preferable to the status quo.
Along with the missile threat, I also worry that a country like Iran could get their hands on a nuclear device from North Korea, and smuggle it into a country like Israel.
