New York Times Forum on Religion
by Trilobite inthe nyt has a series of forums and one is devoted to religious issues, particularly in light of current events.
it occurs to me that the wts's recent actions provide an opportunity to generate discussion.
maybe if enough people post something it will get the nyt itself interested...... here is the link - you have to register though - link: http://forums.nytimes.com/webin/webx?13@@.f1a996e

Divide And Conquer /with UN Issue & others
by Ranchette inas this un issue has unfolded we have been working very hard to expose the hypocrisy and deceit of the society to our friends and family and also the public.. we continue to be shocked and amazed at the crazy stunts the wtbs pulls.. when i heard that dutch bethel had something to say about this i started thinking about the uninted we stand, divided we fall concept.. i am wondering if we could put more effort into getting this important information to all wt branches all over the world.. as these issues crop up it would be great if we could publicize all of the branches, their addresses, phone#, fax #, e-mails etc.. i noticed that even within brooklyn they dont always know what is going on.. i was thinking that if i were in one of the other branches around the world i would be enraged that brooklyn got us into this mess and brought reproach on jahs name they are also screwing up with the child abuse issue and many others.. is it possible to cause these other branches to question and turn on brooklyn?.
any thoughts on this out there?.

Making me tired.......
by starlitestarbrite ini do not understand why jw's spend so much time protecting the watchtower and the society.
if the bible is god's word, then why would you need someone to interpret it for you?
now i realize, that jw's mention being "enlightened", etc.

I do not understand why JW's spend so much time protecting the Watchtower and the Society. If the bible is God's word, then why would you need someone to interpret it for you? Now I realize, that JW's mention being "enlightened", etc. However, all of these predictions made by this group are SOOOOO wrong.
The society does claim to be a prophet as demonstrated here:"God has on earth a people, all of whom are prophets, or witnesses for God....Jehovah's Witnesses." Awake! 6/8/86, p.9.
Now go back to scripture:
What does Deuteronomy 18:20-22 say about anyone that speaks in Jehovah's name a prophecy that does not come true? Also if Revelation 22:18-19 is correct ("God has seen to it that his Word has been protected not only from mistakes copyist made but also from attempts of others to make additions to it...his word would be kept in a pure form for us today.")
hmmm.....if it is in pure form then why would it need "enlightment?"
Also, I have heard that many JWs believe that God has allowed the new testament to be tampered with, that His most sacred name "Jehovah" was removed and today there is no New Testament Greek manuscript that shows where it originally was. Is this really true?

JW's, please explain this to me

matthew 24:36: but of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my father only.. acts 1:7: and he said unto them, it is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the father hath put in his power.. deuteronomy 18:22: "when a prophet speaketh in the name of the lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the lord hath not spoken, but the .
prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shall not be afraid of him.".

ISP,
You are right. It is easy to see how JW's could get caught up in this. However, reading it all, it so blatanly obvious that the dates, numbers, etc. keep changing. I do not see how a person who knows the bible would not catch this. My thought is that many individuals are brought into this religion without knowing alot about God's word. If you were not secure in the entirety of the bible and were only shown the Watchtower, it would be easy to become caught up int it! Thanks for adding so much to all of this! -

Hey guys! Thanks for replying. I was exploring religions and was seriously considering JW. However, when I saw my first Watchtower I really began questioning it. You see, for a solid year I did nothing but study the bible, before I went to find a place for me to worship. Well needless to say I began researching old publications from the society. It seemed like there were many predictions made that didn't come true. When I asked about it, the elders claimed that the Society had been "enlightened". Now, I know the bible and knew that was not possible. If it didn't happen, it is not from God. That is written plain out in the bible in Deutoronomy.
When they started telling me that I was not supposed to question the Society I knew something was wrong. The bible is God's word, not the Society.
I only hope that some will find the error in their beliefs before it is too late! -

Watchtower 5/1/75 (p.285): “6000 years of human history will end in September…”
Watchtower 5/1/67 (p.262): “…1975 marks the end of 6,000 years of human experience.”
Watchtower 8/15/68 (p.499): “Are we to assume from this study that the battle of Armageddon will be over by the autumn of 1975?…It may involve only a difference of weeks or months, not years.”
Watchtower 7/1/74 (p.397): “We can now see the political rulers…being gathered …for that War of all wars…”
Matthew 24:36: “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my father only.”
Acts 1:7: “And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his power”.
Deuteronomy 18:22: "When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the
prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shall not be afraid of him."2 Chronicles 19:9: “And he charged them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.
This seems kind of contradicting to me. I am assuming that I am correct in thinking that this seems like a false prophecy. Please explain this to me if I am wrong. I think we all know what scripture says about that.
