dear friends,.
this is to announce a long research article that i have published in the latest (sept-oct) issue of "liberty" magazine.
("liberty" is a libertarian intellectual journal and is available at barnes and noble, borders, etc., or from po box 1181, port townsend wa 98368. its price is $5.
I am in the middle of reading this article and I had to stop and post this.
Even thought I am only 2/3 of the way through it, it is one of the best articles I have ever read about JW's, very easy to follow and it moves quickly through the whole story. It is only 8 pages, but in those pages (I'm up to 6) are contained a wealth of to-the-point information. The examination of the WTS and the effects of the internet on it are especially great.
This really needs to get posted online somewhere. As word spreads about it I'm sure it will be. There are alot of you here on this board that will enjoy comments made about you, even if your name is not directly used.
Hats off to you Stephen

i hope i can get this picture to attach, but here is my motorcycle.
come on, and show me your's or your dream bike.
Smack,
I have a '75 TL, a real clean one, untouched. I've been keeping my eyes open for a 125 as well. I have a thing for Honda 4 strokes.
Have you heard the Rune run yet? I have a friend that was at a bike show in LA and somehow got hooked up with somebody from Honda, He's quite a talker and he got invited to Honda's thinktank to toss around ideas for what has become the Rune. That's his story anyway.
That's a great picture of the guy dragging his knee on the Wing.
This is my passion...the DESERT! http://www.prismphotos.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=1000&papass=&sort=1&thecat=65

Bikes are my passion, especially off road
All Hondas: XR650R, XR200, CR250 Elsinore ('73), TL250, CT70, several XL350, & XL250-vintage mx bikes in progress) couple of 2/4 stroke hybrids, and GL1500SE
No dream bikes, got what I want, and want to keep what I've got, but I would add a CRF450, and if $ was no object...a RUNE
recently i came upon this statement on this board: .
they were a couple: husband and wife; they were providers: mom and dad; they were people: man and woman; but they weren't really parents.
they let the religion "parent" me... .
When questioned further about 1975 and why I thought it was the end and they apparently were going to wait and see, my father just said "Well I wouldn't have been surprised if it did happen".
My respect for my parents is pretty much gone. Especially when I am told "You just go ahead and keep checking things out" with a smug expression. I really hate that because I know what it implies. I remember being told when I was younger by my parents that someday I would look back and realize how smart they really were. That had to have been 35 years ago and I'm still waiting.

What is surprising to me is that my folks seem shocked at some of the things I believed as a witness. If they didn't teach it to me, where did I learn it? I know. From years and years of listening (although most of the time subliminally) at the meetings and conventions. I now know there are a lot of opinions expressed that probably don't come from the WTS, but I believed it was coming from God so I believed.
I have told them I don't blame them for the situation. They did the best they knew how, they had never raised a child before. I just wish they had been able to figure things out as I have.

This morning I was talking to my 80 years old parents about this. I told them I really felt they let the organization raise me. I cited an examlple of what I meant. We talked about past discussions we have had about 1975. I was going to be 21 in 1975, and I have told them that I really believed everything I heard at the meetings regarding '75. I honestly thought the end was going to come. They said they couldn't understand why I would have felt that way since they said they didn't. They reminded me that they didn't take any drastic steps like quitting a job or cashing in a retirement. They wonder why I would have felt so strongly about it since they claim they didn't.
I told them it's because they didn't raise me. They let an organization do it. Why didn't they tell me not to get excited about it if they really felt that way.
They really didn't know what to say to that. My mother started in on the "why are you so negative" thing, but I told her I am not being negative, this is just the reality of the situation. I asked them again, "Why didn't you tell me you felt that way? I changed my life course because of it"
Whoever wrote the above, let me know so I can give you credit. It is a very profound statement to me and really sums up alot of the issues for me.
has the wts called off their legal dogs?
Jourles,
Check your messages, I sent you one asking about something I saw on dirtclod.
Thanks
i'm going to be a man of few words here.
christianity, in it's truest, fundamentalist form, promotes an unhealthy and non-productive victim mentality.
the christian feels helpless on his own -- condemned by sin and absolutely unworthy.

God gave the first couple just one law, we do not know why, exactly, but we can assume it was to see if they would be trustworthy before giving them eternal life. They failed that simple test, the one tree was not necessary for their food, they already had everything else in that paradise to use for food. They believed a liar, and wanted to be like God themselves.
If, at that point, God would have just excused them, what would have been the result to the entire universe? We can only guess. As it turned out, according to the bible, many of the angels rebelled against God and followed the liar. Had God not lived up to His word in carrying out His sentence on that first couple, He too would have been a liar.
I parroted the words about the "liar" for alot of years, but now when I read the account from the Bible, I can't seem to see how the serpent was a liar, unless you buy the WT 1000 year day thing, and that only acocunts for part of it. It all falls apart for me from there on.
One more thing...How am I supposed to get any work done when you guys keeps posting all this stuff I just have to read?
Xena,
You always have what I would consider to be very sexy photos. Who's your photographer?
I am envious of all of you on the board that can meet each other in person. I would really like to be at an apostofest sometime, I wish it wouldn't cause so many problems. It's irritating that my wife can go to all the meetings and get all the "encouragement" and no doubt some pity, can associate with all these people she has things in common with, but yet if I were to want to do the same thing with people I have things in common with that's just not acceptable. I should clarify that, I can associate with anyone I want that shares my passion for motorcycles without a problem, as long as they're not apostates.
Maybe someday...
