I just want to add this letter to this thread which was written by MacMillan to my grandfather on August 6, 1915. Interesting when he says that the society is about broke.

Just a comment on TDS etc. I have been self employed my whole life, and all of my friends, most of whom are self employed or who work in agriculture here in Central CA where I live are all Trump supporters. I have an old high school friend from MN who told me she was a liberal because she was in education. I asked another high school friend why he thought she said that, and his opinion was expressed in one word...unions. Now I don't know about NewChapter being involved in a union, but I do know that OnTheWayOut is. I have another FB friend who posted here as Seeker4 who is definitely a Trump hater, and I know for sure his employment involved unions. Is being involved in unions or not indicative of how you feel about politics especially involving Trump? It appears so.

Just so I don't get accused of exposing these 2 ex friends, I doubt they would care. But to be fair, if you are an ex-JW and don't have TDS feel free to friend me on FB. My name is Isaac Hull.

I befriended her as an ex-JW and our friendship continued on FB after she had issues on here and quit posting. We were friends until Trump came along and her TDS eventually caused us to end our relationship. Her name is Susan Haywood if you want to look her up on FB. That happened with another person I befriended on here and also met at the apostafest in Lake Tahoe. I was good friends with OnTheWayOut but Trump and TDS took us out too. His name is Jerry Miller from Chicago.

What Would Grandfather Say Now?
by LostintheFog1999 inmy late grandfather believed he was one of the anointed.
that aside when asked about whether the jw organisation would last, he would pull out the attached wt magazine (the second edition) and say "if the day ever comes when the organisation asks for money outright, it will be proof that jehovah is not it's backer.
" that's how convinced he was that such a thing would never happen.. i often wonder what my grandfather would make of the modern organisation today..

The story I have been told is that my grandfather was on a train traveling as a professional magician in 1910, and was contacted by some colporteurs that gave him a brochure entitled "Is Hell Hot?" Now the story goes that he did not like the idea of a burning hell being raised in the Church of Christ so they caught his attention. IMO, wouldn't being a magician make him a skeptic...but anyway. So he got involved with the Bible Students which now I think he was attracted too because Russell was using a pyramid to predict dates. So my grandmother got involved too, and it was passed on to my dad who was born in 1920, who passed it on to me being born after he was a Circuit Servant and pioneer and Gilead graduate who went to Peru as a missionary with my mom who got pregnant there and had to come home. Now I was not conceived there as my mom had a miscarriage at the airport but a year or so later I arrived. I would love to talk to my grandfather now, he died before I was born, he died in 1943, but I think he figured things out before he died. He recreated his magic career with card tricks, his name was R. W. Hull, he's on wikipedia, after the 1925 Millions now living will never die thing didn't work out. I have questioned why they stayed involved at that time when 75% left, but I think it was because they were close friends with MacMillan who was one of Rutherford's henchmen. Interesting that my grandfather's JW legacy at this point is all but gone.
Edited to add of course both of my paternal grandparents were "annointed" as was my maternal grandmother. -

This really brings back some memories. My dad was always prominent in the organization, Gilead grad, Missionary, CO... We used to go 2 weeks early to conventions because he did pre-convention work. Early on he was in the News Service Dept., or was it Public Relations? Either way I got perks as a child that I never realized. When the PR department was no big deal anymore, he was in Administration. Being raised around this, I accepted it as normal. What brought back memories was this post, and a time when i was about 17 and was at a convention in Sioux Falls SD. I must have had some preferential seating because I was up high and watching this really cute girl. I'm not talking the nosebleed section, this was what I now realize was a privileged seating. FYI, I worked up the nerve to talk to her sister, and a year later, apparently this sister figured things out, and the girl I was interested in saw me at a Circuit Assembly she approached me. It never worked out, but I now realize the privilege I never quite appreciated before this post.
