Are we all still FAMILY? Yes or No?
by Greybeard inhere is why, even though i no longer agree with most of what the gb/wt/jw's teach, i still feel especially close to all of us who were apart of this group.
born in or converted.
we all have had the same life experience of being raised in a over bearing mind controlling cult.

Belief to non-belief
by Awen inhave anyone here went from being a very strict believer in god to a non-believer?.
actually i think many are.. but outside of the usual answers of "god doesn't exist" (which you must have had some very valid reasons for), were there many things that caused you to come to this conclusion?
i was watching a southpark video about joseph smith and the mormons and i thought it very funny that anyone could actually believe any of that stuff.

Awen,
Thank you for the very candid and honest post. You may very well come to the same conclusion as I and Talesin have, and if you have been an unquestioning believer most of your life like I was it takes a bit of humility to admit it, although in my case it was also refreshing. Some can never go that far even when exposed to the facts, they have a need to believe, and bolster it by playing the faith card. Maybe it's pride, maybe it's just that it is too painful to admit this life is all you get.
Good luck in your journey.

My father's funeral
by jwfacts inlast week i attended my father's funeral in hobart.
i was the first time i have been in a kingdom hall in several years, and many years since i had attended the hall of my childhood, but felt like it was just yesterday.
the funeral talk was quite a departure from normal, so worth writing about.

Sorry for your loss and thanks for sharing your experience.
I just wanted to comment on how your mom may now be treated. My Aunt's husband was a DO, and after he died it became evident real quick that she wasn't as popular as he was. She eventually left the area he served completely. I'm fairly certain it had to do with her personality and that when the position was gone she got treated accordingly.

Is it really possible for a huge building to just tip over in one big piece like I think some of you are expecting. My guess (and that's all it is) is that even if you totally destroyed one side of the foundation, it would still fall pretty much in it's own footprint.

I went to my first Hypnotist show last night. I was amazed at how much it was like JWs
by life is to short inok i was a born in and never watched or touched anything to do with hypnotist's as we are told to avoid them at all costs and i always followed all the rules to the letter.. so yesterday we have the county fair going on and they have this hypnotist show so i went to it.
the hypnotist called up about 15 people on stage and tried to put them under.
about five of them he just could not put them under so that left about ten people on stage.. of those ten the hypnotist could do almost anything to them, it looked like it was staged expect one of the young women had been sitting right by me and her friends were right next to me, so it did seem legit.. the hypnotist had them fall asleep and when they were in that state he would tell them that when they woke up they would react to key words he had said to them or when he touched his face a cretin way.. it sort of freaked me out because it was like how i was in the religion.

Now that is interesting. I could never stay awake at conventions either no matter how hard I tried but have not gone since I quit, but I would bet that I would now be just like you are. I have never made the connection before but it sure makes sense. Thanks for giving me something to think about.

Classics from the Watchtower archives Part 1
by dozy inpart 1 of an occasional series - contributions welcome.. .
is it desirable to make provisions in kingdom halls for a soundproof room to which disturbing children can be taken and in which the parent can hear and perhaps see the sessions and yet the child cannot disturb congregational meetings?g.e.,children should be in the congregation with their parents, and the children should behave themselves.
the parents should so train their children that they will behave.
