Maintaining Faith In God As An Ex-JW
by pronomono inas i fade further from the jws, i'm finding it increasingly hard to maintain faith in god.
i've been exploring many alternatives from atheism, agnostic, apathetic, pagan, and satanism (not devil worship, but the promotion of self-indulgence) to name a few.
i'm thoroughly intrigued to learn how those of you who remained christian managed to maintain your faith in god and christ, especially after enduring all the lies that we've been told about them.

This place is awesome! It is where you can get apostate meat. Some are not ready for the meat, they need to start with the milk first.
Can't please everyone.

Elders receive a report that I am openly displaying false religious symbol
by confusedandalone inwhen you look at the image above what do you see?
a sneaker or an outward display that i am now following after another religious group?.
well yesterday i had a 10 minute conversation with an elder who finally got the balls to call me.

Not if you're having fun with it.
This is actually a good strategy when it comes to fading. Passive-aggressive displays of defiance, such as growing a beard, getting a tattoo, talking about Jesus all the time instead of Jehovah, watching R movies.... will get you the label as someone with a Bad Attitued (BA).... but not enough to DF.
Then once you stop attending meetings the elders are actually glad to see you go. It worked for me.

Gerrit Losch was actually once an apostate.
by Julia Orwell ina jw friend of mine (who was one of my besties until i told him i didn't believe jw religion anymore) used to live in austria and for a while in the 70's was in the same congregation as losch.
they used to spend some time together in the ministry.
my jw friend tells me that he and losch used to often talk about how they believed the wt was wrong about certain interpretations of the bible, for example, how at the time the wt taught that the mustard tree used by jesus in an illustration represented an evil kingdom, and losch and friend didn't think that was right.

Losch decided to wait on Jehovah about the things he didn't agree with. Once he became GB member, Jehovah decided to make the light brighter and change the things Losch didn't agree with. Funny how that worked out.
Sounds more like Jehovah was waiting on Gerrit Losch!

Have you ever had a hallucination? What was it like?
by Nathan Natas ini have almost never had a visual hallucination and i was wondering what they're like.
how "real" do they seem?
is there any kind of a hint you get that tells you they are not real?

A couple times in the 70s when I took LSD. First experience was during a party, visual light trails from a lit sig, everything in the room color enhanced just by thinking of any color, music experience was enhanced.
The second tme was more of a spiritual experience, feelling that I was connected to everything else in the universe, realization of just how small I was in the universe, ego was gone and I became fully aware of the pain I caused others in the past by my actions.
One other time I had the feeling that someone was pushing me from behind, but no one was there, I was walking into my house alone when it happened. That was a bit scary compared to other experiences and I wanted to think it was all in my mind but at the time also felt like it could have been a demon pushing me. I never did anymore again after that and I never experienced any flash backs.
My father had many hallucinations when he was on strong pain meds and would just lay awake in his bed with nothing to stimulate his mind. Once we talked him into keeping the TV turned on or doing things to keep his mind active instead of idle while awake they seemed to go away. He would see things like the numbers and hands of the clock falling off onto the floor and chrickets jumping up and down on his bed about 3ft into the air.
Had one audible hallucination shortly after my mother died, I heard her voice just as clear as if she was standing right next to me. I was in bed at the time just falling asleep. No drugs were taken.

How to accept the actions of the Old Testament God
by confusedandalone inhow are we able to do this.. this is not an attempt to stir the pot or cause confusion but i was sitting here thinking of all the really horrid things that the old testament god did to people.
when i was a jw i just purposely put it to the back of my mind always trying to make an excuse.
when i was in field service and someone would ask me about it i would just change the subject.. however i have been reading alot of info lately here about how wonderful jesus is and how he is a direct representation of what god the father would be.

I Went To A Catholic Mass Yesterday And What A Waste of Time!
by minimus inthe priest acted as if he was the reason why people were there.
he was about 80 and totally disinterested in the affair although he married the deceased and her husband 15 years earlier.. his sermon's gist was that we need faith to accept that the reason why god has us die is so that we can go to heaven.
and that's it.. the only interesting (touching) time was when the grandkids gave testimonials about their beloved grandma.. oh, and one more thing.

I'm convicned the "stand up" "sit down" "kneel" "repeat" is just to keep people from falling asleep. Probably not the real reason.
The most awkward part for the only mass I went to my Gradmothers funeral was as a JW we just all sat there like a bump on a log while everyone else played simon says with the priest.

I fear the GB more than I fear a God
by Comatose ini realized this about myself yesterday.
i was noticing how on a thread i thought about commenting on, i held back out of a fear i still have of speaking out against the governing body.
i have been disrespectful to the god of the bible and openly proclaimed i do not think he exists.

The GB does gods dirty work. They would stone us to death if they could get away with it.
