life has been busy, but i am now on 2 weeks vacation which allowed me some thinking room.
and here's what's been on my mind.. we're all going to die.
no matter what we do, our fate is sealed.
I have come to accept that I will die just as all before me. No one has ever cheated death.
What I find more sobering is the fact that 200 years from now, likely not a single person living on this planet will know that I ever existed, yet people will still be talking about assholes like Rutherford.
i ask because my gf, who knows all about my jw upbringing, convinced me to grow a goatee, just to see how it looks.
we both decided it looked good so i decided to keep it.
i tried to explain to her that as a jw, i wasn't allowed to grow one, but then drew a blank when she asked me why.
We had black brothers who had shaved heads and nothing was said.
As soon as a white brother decided to shave his head then there was some kind of problem.
I suppose they associated it with the skin head movement.
there is an unfulfilled prophecy in daniel about the last king that will be broken without human hand.
the prophecy says he will be fierce-looking, deceptive, efficent in his doings, smart and causing ruin to many.
and he will exalt himself.
yes or no.......what say you?.

I grew a goatee while still an active JW. Many in the congregation said it looked good on me and didn't understand why they didn't allow it. Since I was not a MS or Elder, there was nothing said to me about it. I was in a liberal congregation.
What I did notice was they would only schedule TM talks in the 3rd school down in the basement and when I tired to make arrangements to go out door to door with elders they would not show and make some arrangement ahead of time for me to work with someone else but never bothered to tell me in advance.
Rutherford who sold encyclopedias door to door as a young man took the same model for creating his JW sales force to peddle his WT propaganda understood the image of first impression. Russel obviously had no issues with the beard.

i am not color blind and i have no connection to this company but i ran across this and i just had to share it.
hopefully it might help someone on jwn.. these glasses allow most persons who are color blind to see true colors for the first time.
they also give a fascinating super color enhancement effect to people with normal color sight.
My father was color blind, I was not, but all three of my children are. I think most can get along in life fine unless your an electrician working with color coded wiring.

the governing body have painted themselves in a corner, so to speak.
if they acknowledge their response to abuse claims was insensitive, unloving and inadequate they are denying the belief that "god's way" is best and risk losing abuse cases.
if they stick with it and say it is "god's way according to the bible" they will be seen as cult leaders and risk losing abuse cases.
several threads on here about the excellent bbc r4 programme this week ('the report') focussing on rape and abuse in barry, south wales, jws.
fat pervert mark sewell later got 14 years and i hope he is enjoying every minute of it.. the courageous ladies who spoke on the programme were articulate, reasonable and made a tremendous impression.. the quote in the thread title made an impression on me, and i hope, on all listeners.. forget religious, theological, 'biblical' issues and cut to the basics.
a rape victim was asked to demonstrate - to demonstrate, ffs - to three unqualified (middle-aged at least, presumably) men just how far her legs were apart when she was raped.. i have rarely heard anything so outrageous, and i used to investigate rape and abuse in my profession.
My sister was married to a long time elder that made her roll play during sex. She was to pretend that she was other sisters at the hall during sex. All the while this man was sitting on JC and judging others. I could see him being the type that asked very personal questions during a JC.
They are no longer together thankfully for her.
