Sliced bread may have been the best thing up to 1928. But as AA points out many better inventions since then such as the ipod.
Prior to sliced bread anyone could cut bread with a knife and get the same thing. Prior to the Ipod, it would be physically impossible to carry thousands of songs with me anywhere I went.
My vote goes to the Ipod or mp3 player as the best thing since sliced bread.
Edit to add: probably the smart phone would top the ipod since it can play Mp3 plus much more.

slimboyfat joins the Mormons!
by slimboyfat ini know that some people on the board have experience of being mormons, so i would be interested in your feedback.
at church this afternoon it was an uncanny experience.
in the past i've read a lot about mormons, so i thought i was prepared in general for what it would be like.

SBF: Many aspects of the service remind you of 19th century America: the look of the church, the language, the hymns, the dress, the traditional roles for women
One thing that I have noticed about wacky 19th century american religions is that others seem to revere the leaders of their movements to this day no matter how wacky their ideas were. The Mormons and Christian Science have high regard for their founding fathers.
The Watchtower religion seems almost embarrassed by its founder C.T. Russel and Rutherfraud compared to these others.

I agree with SBF. Tell the elders that you have a right to confront your accuser face to face. In fact, your accuser should have followed the bible and came to you first.
Demand a face to face meeting with the accuser because you want to find out who is impersonating you.
Can you imagine the havoc JWs could make by impersonating active JWs and putting just enough personal information out there that they get busted.

I have always wanted to do that too. But only long enough to get a picture of me with the twister in the background. Then I will be happy and ready for another bucket list item.

Witness Carts - A Vehicle for Significant Decline
by slimboyfat ini was stalking to a jw today about her recent experience on the carts and with being a jw generally.
until this conversation i considered the carts as just an ineffective preaching method and a harmless waste of time.
but now i wonder if the effect of the carts might be to produce noticeable decline in jw numbers.

I have not seen or spoken with anyone who has cart witnessed, however I do agree that this could backfire.
When I think about the door to door ministry prior to the carts, we could knock on hundreds if not thousands of doors before we would come across someone who would directly challenge the message or JW belief system.
Now with cart witnessing, a JW really has a big target on them for any who wish to challenge them. They are a sitting duck for apostates and it's not as easy for them to get away as it is in their own home.
It would be interesting to know if the JW sister of 30 years has had any direct confrontations with apostates while cart witnessing. Maybe something they said hit home and the reason for her drop off in service.
Good topic SBF, and glad to see you posting back here again.
