Cute but very disturbing... Send your kid a letter from Santa...
by Elsewhere ini love to get into the whole christmas spirit thing, but i never take it to the point of lying to or deceiving children about it.
i try to teach kids that it is the spirit of christmas that matters... then i saw this thing.
parents are actively trying to deceive their kids by offering them "proof" that santa is real.

Also- "belief in Santa" does equal "magical Christmas memories" for many.
Let me rephrase: belief in Santa isn't required for "magical Christmas memories" (not that anyone said it was, but I can say it nevertheless). So it's not a big deal to many of us not to include that particular aspect in our celebration.

I thought the "get over it" comment was rude (although most people rarely think what they say/do is rude.. doesn't mean it isn't). Also, "let it go" and "get over it" are not a matter of semantics.. the degree is quite different.
Anyways, regarding this:
I wish with all my heart that we had given our children the magical Christmas memories that our grandchildren are experiencing now.
Since we are talking about Santa, here's my comment: Belief in Santa doesn't equal "magical Christmas memories", so disbelief in Santa and still celebrating Christmas can still bring forth magical Christmases. As a matter of fact, my husband and I celebrate and will celebrate with our children and they will be told that neither Jesus nor Santa are supernatural, mystical beings. Like someone else said, the spirit of giving and family is what my Christmases are and will continue to be.. without Santa.

The debate about telling kids about Santa (telling them he isn't real or not) is just silly. Get over it.
Get over it? Why? If a person has a concern, they have every right to explore it . Elsewhere, I'd suggest you don't "get over it" and examine this in any way you see fit. I happen to agree with you . I don't necessarily see "harm" in letting kid's believe that Santa is real, but I just can't imagine letting my child believe something that is false for years and years. That's just me (and Jon). There's nothing necessary wrong with either side.
I don't know of one kid who was harmed by believing in him.
I don't know of one kid who was harmed by not believing in him .
so what harm is a little fantasy to a young child.
I don't think anyone's knocking fantasies. I had them as a child, but I also was able to see the difference between fantasy and reality. I read Cinderella, etc and used to dream of such magical places, but knew they weren't real. Parents/children take it a step farther with Santa, the child is not differentiating between the fantasy and reality, they are accepting the fantasy as truth. I take issue with this, you don't have to.

Else-
I am going to be straight up with my kids. Knowing the turth about Santa never hurt me, so I'm choosing not to lie to them either.

The Human Face
by Greenpalmtreestillmine inthe human face is unique.
it is the window to the mind.
dogs wag their tales when they're happy and down their ears when they're afraid or puzzled but people, by their facial expressions, are able to transmit much more subtle and/or complex messages and are capable of doing so at will if we so desire.. .

The transmission of emotional states through the human face is uniquely human and is not something that can be accounted for by evolution.
I disagree ..
That has to be the biggest factor that makes me believe in God.
Where did God come from?

Do you and your significant other share religious beliefs?
by MelbaToast insometimes, i think my husband is much more church oriented than i am.
i still get upset when i attend church, but lately he has been putting the push on me for us to go back to his church where he grew up in.
he would like to start taking our daughter so she has a somewhat structured religious belief.
