I wonder if this anti-spanking thing applies to adults. . .hmmm
i had a conversation with an active witness from the usa lately.
and when talking about child upbringing he stated that some children need a spank sometimes.
of course i was upset because of that, and i didn't thought witnesses was that stupid.

Ok, you are a child psychologist? Then you probably know why spanking is going to hurt lot's of kids in areas where spanking still is on the right side of the law.
From the studies that I have read most psychologists only theorizethat spanking can be harmful. Unfortunately there is no proof. Most studies have been inconclusive on either side.
"According to a 1992 survey, nearly 60 percent of pediatricians disagree that spanking is harmful. They believe that spanking, done appropriately, can actually teach kids to behave.
How do you determine whether a kid turned out bad because his parents spanked him? How does a shrink determine that? You mean, ever since Timmy's dad spanked him outside of the "It's a Small World" ride at , the kid went "postal"? Give me a break. How many variables play a role in emotional development? Complex stuff, parenting.
And what of the role of siblings, friends, teachers, schools, religion? How can "experts" determine the impact of spanking without comparing two identical children, one receiving spankings, the other not? Without this, the "experts" simply speculate. But what about the reverse? Suppose a non-spanked kid "turns bad." Do we argue that a judiciously administered swat or two might have turned little Johnnie around?
Besides, who better can determine the appropriate combination of "carrot and stick" in motivating and punishing a child? Maybe that childs parents.
90 percent of parents surveyed do spank, my parents among them.
Also, a recent issue of U.S. News & World Report discusses a 1996 review of the spanking research. Robert E. Larzelere, the director of residential research at in , looked at 166 spanking studies. After examining the data, he "failed to find any convincing evidence that non-abusive spanking, as typically used by parents, damaged children."
At a 1996 of Pediatrics conference, Larzelere presented the research. After reviewing the data presented by Larzelere and others, the two conference organizers wrote, "We must confess that we had a preconceived notion that corporal punishment, including spanking, was innately and always 'bad.'" But "given a relatively 'healthy' family life in a supportive environment, spanking in and of itself is not detrimental to a child or predictive of later problems."
Excellent article. I liked how they primarily focused on the shunning and child abuse but also the history of the Watchtower, the false prophecy and how Witnesses think they'll be the only ones saved.
A nice overview of the cult.

Thanks. I just like to here different opinions. I hope you don't think I was criticzing. I've found that my written words come out way harsher than I mean them to be.

I hope that I don't sound antagonistic because I'm not trying to be. I honestly wanna know. I don't have kids and when I do I my husband and I have decided not to spank them. Even though this is true I don't really see anything wrong with spanking a child, I just choose not to. I suppose that's a contradiction.

So you consider spanking bad conduct and violent?
what were the worst introductions you remmeber people using on the ministry?
"hello my friend and i....." .
"hello we've been talking to your neighbours, do you think we can ever see a peaceful world?

I continue to use psychology rather than physical violence as a disciplinary solutionI love it when people bring up psychology and missuse it.

I am a psychology major and I just love it when people bring it up. In my psychology of learning class we were taught that in order to condition a child to act a certain way punishment (decrease the likelihood of the behavior in the future) is most often successful when certain criteria is met. The punishment must be:
Swift- quickly (don't wait 2 days to punish them)
Consistent- punishment equals the "crime"
Severe- self explanatory. This doesn't mean "beating" the child. Instead a swat will often be more effective especially when the child is too young to be reasoned with.
One may be to explain why it's dangerous or in that situation to grab his hand and tell him what he did wrong.
Nowhere-
Ten month olds can not be reasoned with. They are simply too young!
And do you think the kids with the loving and understanding mothers/fathers will turn out to be the ones who kill people and molest children?
I can give you several examples of serial killers and rapists who had loving parents who didn't spank them.
I have no respect for a parent who spanks his childUnfortunately studies show that around 90% of parents spank their children (APAM). So you don't respect almost all of the parents you know.
my family will not be attending the march.
i respect bill and what he has accomplished, but i believe that attempts to control the march and the marchers, are misplaced -- even damaging for victims of abuse -- who have been controlled enough!.
the last thing victims of abuse need is to be told to keep up appearances.
Mikepence, just stop posting!
