I am pretty agnostic but I do believe in spirits. There has been a few times in my life where I’ve heard what is CLEARLY footsteps walking up the stairs and around the upstairs of the house I live in, when there is defenitly no one else at home. I know what footsteps sound like, I’ve been hearing them in this house for years from everyone, and a few weeks ago I clearly heard them. It’s creepy but I just try to ignore it and I think it will ignore me, who knows. I also work at a nursing home where people die quite often, and people who tell me about how they would see ghost, I never believed it. But one day I was in an empty room by myself washing my hands, I looked up in the mirror and I saw behind me an old man walking, I ran out so fast! I swore I know what I saw, but who knows. I feel like there’s defenitly things we don’t know about this world and universe

The paranormal.
by Lost in the fog ini know that a lot of the people on here have turned their backs on the idea of a deity deciding that god does not exist.
but what about the unseen spirit world generally such as poltergeists, jinns, voodoo, etc.
if you have become agnostic, atheist, or just don't care since leaving, do you think that there are spirits out there or have you decided that is also hokum?

I recently had to take a trip with my family to Bethel. It was a bit torturous for a secret apostate as you can imagine. But mostly just so boring. Walking around looking at the different machinery that you couldn’t pay me to be interested in learning about. Why do people visit here more than once in their life, it’s just a bunch of machines and printeries, who cares? We even were privleged enough to get to go down down stairs and see the heating and cooling system, how awesome!!
And parents are supposed to want to bring their kids here more than Disney world? It is so much more special and important to show your child a big printing machine and a cardboard poster of Caleb and Sofia than a fun and exciting amusement park or a beautiful beach. I feel so sorry for people who travel half way across the country or the world and drag their kids along with them.
Also, did you know that at meal times, women are not allowed to sit at the end of a table, or the foot or whatever they call it, only men are allowed to sit there, because it represents the “head” of the table -_-. I almost sat there because the seats were running out, and I was told sorry, no women allowed to sit there. Unbelievable!!! They really have to enforce their sexism with the smallest things??
I did think it was funny though, how whenever I asked someone about the olympic sized heated swimming pool, they acted very awkward and uncomfortable, like we weren’t supposed to know about it! I thought I would give it a try and ask if we could see it, of course we could not ;)

Is my future mother in law Pimo?
by Addison0998 inso my fiancé found out that his mom and sister, both baptized, went to a halloween party last night, dressed up and everything, with his step dad, who’s not a jw.
his mom hardly goes to the meetings or out in service, she’s quite inactive, his sister is a bit more active and serious about it.
i thought it was pretty bold even for someone who’s not a die hard witness.

Yes I was going through a rough time and I was feeling pretty depressed and critical towards him, but when I took a step I realized that things with him were not as bad as I thought. I truly enjoy being with him, and we’ve spent ALOT of time alone, he is a very hard worker, and has the same values and beliefs as me. He truly understands me, protects me, and cares deeply for me, and I do the same for him. I know it’s a bit embarrassing that I made a post unsure about our relationship, but we have figured things out, and I am sure we will have a very happy life together, even if it is spent fading at first. This is the best way to do things for my personal situation, as we are buying a house together, and changing our lives a lot, it would be too stressful having another dramatic change in my life trying to drop out of the JW suddenly and have no support or social contacts at all.

So my Fiancé found out that his mom and sister, both baptized, went to a Halloween party last night, dressed up and everything, with his step dad, who’s not a jw. His mom hardly goes to the meetings or out in service, she’s quite inactive, his sister is a bit more active and serious about it. I thought it was pretty bold even for someone who’s not a die hard witness. She hid it from my Fiancé, probably thinking he might snitch on them on something, but he saw pictures of it on Facebook. He’s going to try to respectfully get her to open up about it, but who knows. Maybe she is justifying it, thinking it was just a party and she wasn’t celebrating. I am partly very happy and hopeful (maybe we will have family to celebrate holidays with after all) but also worried for her, the people who posted the picture have a public Facebook page so hopefully no one sees it, otherwise she will surely be disfellowshipped, especially for taking her young daughter too. Do you guys think she still believes in the jw beliefs? Have you ever seen something like this or done it yourself?

What’s the big deal with birthday cake?
by Addison0998 inhow strict were the jehovah’s witnesses you knew about birthday cake?
i knew a girl who saw a few pieces of cake in the break room at her work, and ate a peice, then found out later that it was left over birthday cake.
she felt so guilty and was scared about a bad impression she left on her work mates.

She felt so guilty and was scared about a bad impression she left on her work mates. I know other witness who are very serious about it too. Even when I was full mentally in, I never thought god would kill me for eating a peice of birthday cake after the party. It’s not like I was celebrating with them. I even ate my free birthday lunch from Olive Garden at work. It was right before I woke up, and I just stopped caring about little things like that. I thought surely god has bigger problems to worry about. I’m so glad I’m free now and can enjoy more of the little things in life now!

When I was at the beginning process of waking up, I noticed at a meeting one night during one of those “motivational” videos about a “real life experience”, that the brother said before he became a witness he worked with one, and every day he would read and study the watchtower. And later when the guy starts studying, he said, I started studying the Bible, but he was just holding up a What does the Bible really teach? book. There was hardly a bible even seen in the video. And I realize how much of a commercial it is for the WT. A Jehovah’s Witness hardly even needs to read the Bible, studying watchtowers publications is far more important to them, since they are taught no one can truly understand the Bible without the F/S help. and it IS viewed practically the same as the Bible.

Those awkward magazines
by Addison0998 ini’m sure we all remember those really weird, awkward magazines we were expected to place in service.
and it was before we are had the website or the thing on the back to fall back on.
imagine being a 12 year old girl, and having to place magazines on god’s view of pornography, sex, homosexuality.

I remember we were placing the magazine about Pornography, and the question was, “Do you think pornography is harmful or harmless, and one guy said, “Oh me and my wife love watching that, it helps us out. LOL we didn’t know what to do.

It’s so irritating to think about. Does anyone remember those magazines?

Will Jehovah’s Witness be discouraged from watching any tv at all soon?
by Addison0998 ini know it sounds kinda stupid and dramatic, but lately there’s been a lot of suggestive content about not watching tv.
the broadcast was telling people that watching tv snares you into getting an attachment to characters, (the one where the crazy sister prayed for a tv character).
and today this watchtower telling people that the only news that should be watching, or even interested in watching is the broadcast or on jw.org news room.

And today this watchtower telling people that the only news that should be watching, or even interested in watching is the broadcast or on jw.org news room. I’ve heard many witnesses say that everything else going on in the world shouldn’t matter to us (palm to face), and that we should only be interested in what’s happening to our brothers and sisters. A few have said it’s the only tv we should be watching. I wonder if it’s going to become increasingly ratical. Perhaps convincing everyone that there is enough content on jw.org to entertain yourself, and there is nothing good left in the world to be watching. Of course, it would take a long time to get to that point, and it’s a very small chance, you just never know with this orginazation.
And of course, everyone was talking about how we have to ignore everything in the news about us, feeling confident it is completely false. But none of them would give the benefit of the doubt to another religion being spoken of negatively. A really desperate watchtower today...
