  i am going to engage on a trip to the past and share with you some of the matters that marked the beginning of the jws persecution in cuba.

  you will be surprised that the pattern that was followed is very similar to what happened in other dictatorial countries.. in the cuban case, i am going to surprise you and tell you that like what happened with hitler; the wt was partially responsible for their clash and confrontation with the cuban government.

  during the early 60s the revolution was fighting for survival and they were willing and ready to demolish any perceived enemy to their cause.. a prime example was their war against the catholic church that was the most influential religious entity in the country; it took the supreme leader only a few public discourses to send the vast majority of clergy packing and back to their country, in this case spain.. the jehovah’s witnesses were an insignificant minority but they over estimated their importance and displayed a belligerent attitude, it was known that this was a us based religion and an easy target to connect them with the cia.

  Hi Lois

  Nice corresponding with you, sad the experience of the missionary. It is possible that he was targeted for something else and that was just an excuse to get him out of the way. On the other hand the WT is unmerciful as far as money matters, they don't allow any sort of chicanery.

  It is very possible that this will bring the Cuba Government to the table, a lot of money has been invested by foreign companies in the Cuban tourist industry. The boom that was expected has never materialized and now this will kill whatever little momentum was building.

  New presidential directives aim to bring in tougher policies toward Cuba. What will the new directives mean?

  48% Capacity at Kingdom Halls - A post on reddit

  there was a letter read this week, followed by a talk about all the changes that are coming in the next couple of months regarding merging congregations in the area (va/md/dc) - the letter said that the kh's in the area are only being filled to 48% capacity.

  this was music to my ears as i have noticed the decline in attendance in all the neighboring congregations.

  they will sell some kingdom halls and merge some congregations.

  This is why they stopped announcing and posting the attendance. They still have records for the CO, included in the attendance are the people listening at home; sometimes quite a few.

  few things draw my interest as much as people on this board who talk about the elders, the insidious little toadies who lurk around kingdom halls, the proverbial big fish in little ponds.

  it amazes me the terror and the veneration they inspire, as well as the occasional ridicule.

  it makes me wonder how they're selected and whether most of them come into the position with a sense of power, entitlement, authority and control, or whether many of them are pretty nice people and that i'm just hearing about the bad apples?

  cofty3 hours ago3 hours ago4 hours agoAbusive and power hungry elders are not in the majority. Most are sincere believers who are put on to do far more than is reasonably possible.
  A minority are guilty of abusing their power.

  My opinion of them is exactly the opposite, only a very few of them know how to use wisely the power given to them.
