  Why don't Jehovah's Witnesses Celebrate Thanksgiving?

  hi guys,.

  being a brit living abroad, i never really understood the whole thanksgiving business.. i think growing up as a jw didn't help either.

  anyway, i've rid myself of those jw shackles and have decided to take an interest into the goings on over the pond, especially as my favourite place on earth is bar harbor.

  What about buying a turkey, which is on sale, and making a turkey dinner on that day?
  
  Some may choose to take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy fellowship with family and friends. Yet, what "spirit" will a Christian manifest? It is true that God created turkeys and other foods, so these are not in themselves objectionable. But undoubtedly one who is a true Christian will want to be careful not to stumble others.
  
  Consider what the apostle Paul says, as recorded at 1 Cor. 10. He reasons that Christians should wisely avoid eating before others a perfectly acceptable food if doing so would stumble them. 'Respect your brother's conscience' is the message.

  i got a email from a close friend "estimado arboles.

  a bastard is moving next door to me, he is a phucking lying ahole jw, him and his family are moving up the ranks in the jw holy roller world.

  i enjoy smoking weed outside, i never planned on being df'ed but i fear he saw me smoking and now i am waiting for a jc.

  I got a email from a close friend "Estimado Arboles

  A bastard is moving next door to me, he is a phucking lying ahole JW, him and his family are moving up the ranks in the JW Holy Roller World. I enjoy smoking weed outside, I never planned on being df'ed but I fear he saw me smoking and now I am waiting for a JC. My medical weed is from a doctor to gain weight as I suffer from chronic back-pain with no appettite."

  I told the friend the elder has no business talking to him about his medical condition. The elder he is mentioning is a raging drunk, takes oxycontin and other hard core medications. What advice could you offer, the elder saw him smoking a "fattie" and now my friend is fearful. Advice anyone?

  This elder has gone to bat for multipule pedophiles, I thought this might help you understand my friend's plight. I told him to put pro Obama or Romney stickers and pro "Medical Mary Jane" signs Colorado and Washington State will send you free.

  how important is evidence to your world view?.

  if you had to make a decision on a fact being true, what would be the deciding factor for you... your feelings and faith, scriptural statement or evidence presented by modern science?.

  would scripture trump evidence, or would faith trump scripture etc .

  everything was great untill about two years ago untill she realized i wasn't a jehovah witness.

  i didn't notice it before but now i noticed the next day she began to give me verses about the "truth".

  it recently got worse with her religious debates lately i've been able to prove her wrong with most of them.

  KINGDOM HALL GATHERINGS VS "WEIGHT WATCHER'S MEETINGS"

  i was told about this great place where each person is trying to acheive the same goal.

  on the tuesday meeting, we sat back and listened to the success story of our teacher.

  he has been following "the way" for close to twenty years, gained mastery over his unnatural desires and cravings.

  I missed another Meeting, how disappointed the group is I don't value the "healthy teaching presented by the Organization", some look at me and wag their heads or point their fingers!

  The guilt of not meeting everyone's expectations is tearing me up inside, why am I such a failure? I keep up on all the lastest fads (teachings, doctrines, dogmas) and crazes Society has to offer, books like "How to live healthy in a World gone mad!".

  Now I am "irregular" and my coach no longers calls and checks up on me. Once I stopped making monthly payments (putting my membership on hold), the group stopped caring about me and my family. What happened to my friends here, the unconditional friends fighting the same fight? When my credit card number was changed (so they could not keep billing me), the group started to tell new members "look how sad he's become without us! See, you should never leave the group or you all will end up like him!" Oh the pain of guilt, why am I such a failure at life?

  Groups and Organizations are good at making you feel guilty? It pay's to make others feel terrible about themselves, and teach "you need us or failure (death at A) is waiting for you!

  @Splash:, ty too for your efforts, I wish others attending the Kingdom Halls were scholars like brothers and sisters on JWN.

  @designs: The GB does think they are the Levites, relying on the "other sheep" (tribes) to pay their way. The Levites were actually performing a valid function to Israel as a whole, not worrying about splintered ideas "generation", "Seven-Times", "Gentile Times".

  I like how James Wood makes this question so simple, they desire to replace Jesus Christ so "rank and file" members must go between them to attain forgiveness. I wish I had the privilege of meeting Sam Dunlap like you. I am on my second reading of C.O.C. and the way Ray Franz presents brother Dunlap, their kind is what could have saved the Organization from the Governing Body Zombies

  @OldGoat: The New Covenant is "all-inclusive", so JWs are allowing the GB to remove Jesus Christ's atonement "Woe to you scribes and Pharisees, you block the entrance to the Kingdom Of God, you won't go in yourselves but you prevent others from entering!" It's up to us to learn the truth and push past fake guardians of the Gate!

  I live for evidence but there are areas (meta-physical realm) where faith is required, so both are important to my world view!
