I'm a believer... Though I wish I wasn't from time to time.
I can't intelectually justify my belief in a "God" all that well, but that doesn't stop me having one. (Proverbs 22 v 6)
i just wanted to take a survey.
let's not let this get into the same old same old debate of atheism vs belief.
just respond with "atheist" or "believer" or "maybe god exists".

i'm curious.
(true in both senses).
when i was a child i used to hope celebrities i liked (or wanted to boink) died before armageddon.
Who knew, I'm not crazy.
Alright, perhaps I'm still crazy... But not because of this!
Spanks folks - It's weird to have people say "I know what you mean": It's no small thing.
(the first chapter of hebrews seems quite explicit on the issue).
but since scriptural texts don't seem quite enough for my jdub kinfolks (wtf?
), i tried to find out where this poppycock idea first popped up.. .
Leolaia - I dread reading a comment from you that I don't agree with - I fear when I do I may be forced to change my opinion.
Reslight2 - I shall have a look at the links you posted. (Although you seem to be saying that an Archangel isn't an Angel?)

When I was a child I used to hope celebrities I liked (or wanted to boink) died before Armageddon. Also true of just general people I met and liked, I distinctly remember thinking "what a nice person, I do hope they die soon".
I also used to think about killing my family and as many people I liked as I could before I was stopped... It always seemed like a fair trade as a kid, save them all from the second death by giving them the first, so what if I get the second myself? (I never contemplated actually DOING anything, but the theory seemed sound when I was about 8)
So, as I was saying, I'm curious; anyone else remember thinking similar?
Or am I just missing a few screws?
so we all know the jw vocabulary is a weird one.
what words or phrases bugged you the most?.
a few of mine:.
I never liked the overuse of "cultivate"... spirituality in a Petri dish.
I did rather enjoy the bickering over pronunciation caused by the constant repetition of "contemplative" and "hyperbole" though.
someone asked in another topic essentially what is your purpose in being here?
what do you plan to accomplish?
i thought i would start this topic as a result of that one.. i personally don't think i can 'change' anybody by being here...but the way i see it, this forum gives me a place to vent.
When I was a kid I always wanted to go up to the people outside the district conventions who were standing out in the cold holding up signs. Watching everybody ignore them was like watching Jdubs do street ministry.
Seems my childhood instincts were right, you apostates are a lovely bunch. This place is a nice break from the constant bellow of the Watchtower's spiritual onanism.

Nostonecutters: I know. I used to play with a Rubik's cube if I fancied a quick puzzle, now I just try to log on here... Fun times!

Jaime: I've always found the use of 1 Thess 4 v 16 to support the belief a bit odd.
In one short scripture we can find out that Jesus was Michael, is also God and might perhaps also have been Louis Armstrong.
Also - Hebrews 1. The writer seems awfully frantic to make sure WHATEVER it is you believe about Christ, you don't go thinking he was an angel (whatever the rank)

Cofty - Spanks for the welcome.
Ding - I'm not quite sure why I never saw the little search bar at the top there... I waited two days to join up here and ask that question.
I'm grateful and annoyed all at the same time! This site is a treasure trove of information.

Blondie - Ooh, that's nice, I didn't realise they'd been quite so confused by the idea in the first place. And thanks for the link to jwfacts, every link's a bookmark these days it seems.
Phizzy - Spanks for the welcome, I wanted to put "wet fart"... Sounds better. But I'm not too sure how well a wet fart actually lights.
Slimboyfat - Looks like an interesting read, I may have to jingle my piggybank and see what's rolling around in it.
Designs - I'd no idea at all that the teaching went back before E. White, I learned a bunch in the last two days... And my head hurts now.
Barry - That is pretty much what I thought mate. I even hoped she did come up with it because she is an odd character herself - the similarities between her and Russel are amusing to say the least. Every time I come on here I learn something new.
Tec - I agree with every single one of your syllables. Peace right back at ya.
Kurtbethel - Good picture. One of the people I've been speaking to has been a jdub for quite a few years, but frowned when I said JC=MtheAA according to the WT and said "are you sure?". I said "are you". Silence reigned supreme.
Coldsteel - Damn, I had no idea at all that Mormons believed that.
With regard to the overall question of whether or not the bible identifies Jesus as Michael = I think it seems to sound as if it might be doing sometimes, but that is a shoddy basis for a teaching in my opinion. At least in the light of Hebrews chapter 1.
I wouldn't be dogmatic about the issue given my current lack of knowledge on the subject, but it would take ALOT of explaining to get me to believe the writer of the letter of Hebrews didn't mean exactly what it sounds like he's saying.

The best I could do was find out that Ellen G White tripped out one day and had a vision which included the detail. I think Jdubs said it wasn't true for a while - and then with a burst of "newlight" having the startling brightness of a lit fart - did a turn around and decided they agreed.
I can't find out if she was the first person to ever say that JC was MtheAA or if she just pilfered the idea from someone else like Russel did with most of his. I would hate to make a case to my loved ones only to have them correct me... I'm a humble enough person, I don't mind correction, but there is just something about the repressed joy you see on a JW's face when they are correcting ANYTHING you've said, that is almost orgasmic.
Basically, I'm posting here to grovel and snivvle at you guys in the hopes that some kind soul (snivvle), with a HUGE and brilliant mind (grovel), knows when the teaching popped up for the first time? Also - I got the impression that she "spoke with angels" and whatnot - If she was the first to come up with the teaching, and did so as a result of having a chat with a spirit... That'd be nice.
Anyway, any information on the subject would be brilliant - I'll say thanks in advance because I know you guys won't let me down.
(My knees are starting to hurt)
Kisskiss.
