Yadirf,
This is not a good day for your crap.
Maybe some other time would be more appropriate
Well, considering Today is Friday, and Yadirf is Friday spelled backwards, thank God it is Friday, and we'll have to let him post because it's his Day.
satan's time lessens
the wts is the closest thing to the restoration of true worship that exists on the face of the earth today, all it needs now is to be perfected.
and it certainly has its enemies.

Yikes. Any of you read this before? You be the judge. Even if you only believe half of what you read, it is quite thought-provoking. Please don't flame me for being a conspiracy theorist! Prove this is bunk, please. It's so connected it's scary.
what makes shunning in this religion real tough to deal with...(as opposed to being defrocked or ex-communicated, etc.):::.
why it's not as simple as "why don't you just walk away?".
1-many jws lack social skills from birth in jw upbringings, lack of diversity in associations, controlled environments sheltered from the real world.. 2-lack of outside contacts or support "safety net" of outside mentors.. 3-discouragement of seeking any outside independent sources, education or professional help or information.
Refiners: No, shunning is not unique in and of itself, as I intended to compare JW vs. mainstream religions, rather than vs. the other cults, which indeed sometimes can be physically painful to leave in certain circumstances. The point I was making is that, if you grant the comparision, shunning is PAINful moreso in the JW vs. , say catholic or protestants, etc. That was my point.
No doubt as you say, painful shunning among other cults is prevalent, too.
i have frequented this site quite a bit, but i now have finally joined.
since i seen many other people's posts i will tell.
i grew up with my mother in the "truth" but my father was not.
Welcome home! yes, in your secret research, you will see how much the WTS digs their own holes, yet the demonize and chastise 'apostates' and 'opposers' for bringing them out into the open.

well, I appreciate that, as I had a lot of different thoughts running around on this sore-spot issue with many good folks and I wanted to encapsulate as much as I could think of this. I just want to get to the root causes and consequences of shunning and why it's ungodly policy.
is there any particular speakers that you remember as being outstanding?
what was good about them?
did they use interesting illustrations?
who loved to do the "sounds of the swamp [the world] beckoning us to come in: WadeIn -- WadeIn -- KneeDeep -- KneeDeep; WadeIn -- WadeIn -- KneeDeep -- KneeDeep ..." with a deep resonant voice.
Welcome to Da Swaaaaaaaaaamp!
Seriously, though, the oratory skills of many JWs is refined in the art of persuasion, reasoning and indoctrination. The ones that do it well get used a lot.

4-Discouragement and intolerance of independent thinking and private opinion, or dissenting opinion.
5-Religion portrayed a "way of life" not to be deviated from, only one "way" is claimed to be in divine favor, like one "ark" of salvation, and one God demanding exclusive devotion.
6-Too high a value placed on "oneness" "unity" "brotherhood" inversely proportional to healthy relationship potential outside of the church
7-Larger proportions of entire families are indoctrinated, effectively making abstainers and objectors "black sheep" in their own families
8-"Service" and "spiritual condition" to deity measured numerically and subjectively from peers and overseers.
9-"Spiritual Family" trumps "Fleshly Family" when advice is given over who should one turn to for help in all matters.
just my 2 shillings
yesterday i got my letter from the ins that informed me that my appointment to answer citizenship questions will be on may 21 and that i should bring my resident card and selective service card.

"i have so much love to give, but no one to give it to.".
John Handcock was President at the signing of the Declaration of Independance. he continued on until the end of the Revolutionary war, 1776-1780. Then the nation was under the Articles of Confederation. George Washington did not become President until 1789 after the ratification of the new Constitution. So, John Handcock is the real First President, but Washington is considered the First President because he was elected under the Constitution.
I'm not going to assign motives here ;) but I'm sure you meant John HANcock, not HANDcock, which is another way of saying five-finger Suzie.....lol use lots of Vaseline :)
The citizenship class,

i'm reading 1984 by george orwell and ran across this paragraph on page 189. to me it sounds very familiar as a watchtower quote from the 1970s.
does anyone know where this is?the world of today is a bare, hungry, dilapidated place compared with the world that existed before 1914, and still more so if compared with the imaginary future to which the people of that period looked forward.
in the early twentieth century, the vision of a future society unbelievably rich, leisured, orderly and efficient--a glittering antiseptic world of glass and steel and snow-white concrete--was part of the consciousness of nearly every literate person.
Personally, I think that much of the futuristic fiction of that era tends to be more fact, less fiction.
