Yes, Canada bethel had a female doctor when I was there a few years back. At Wallkill there was at least one male doctor I believe, he lived in one of the houses on the farm property with his family.

Feeling sad over a wasted life in watchtower
by wannaexit init's been 12 years since i first read ray franz's books and the scales came off my eyes.
by that time i was in my forties.. since 2002 i went back to school and have worked with 3 very professional organizations.
but my biological clock is ticking away and while my peers are looking forward to retirement, i am only beginning.

I feel the same. I'll be 26 when I graduate from community college, whereas most people who I went to high school with graduated with degrees four years ago and have been working since then. I wasted 4 years in pioneering and bethel service, with shitty job experience. it fucking sucks

Elders: Born-Ins vs Recruits
by breakfast of champions inthis is an unofficial survey.. was curious as to the number of currently serving elders who were born-in and/or raised as jw versus those who were "recruited"( i.e, not born in or raised as jw.).
for instance, right now in the hall i am assigned to:.
2 elders were born-in and/or raised as jws.. 5 were not (recruited as adults).

80% (born-in) in one hall, 90% in another, 15% in another (the average age of the eder body was 65+), and maybe 60% in mine right now. As Ignoranceisbliss mentioned though, the elder bodies are mostly old in most of the congs I've been in, like average age is 65 or 70. The youngest elder I've met was 33, the oldest in his 90's. Average age of the elder body in some other congregations is mid 40s to late 50s.

Do any Bethel/WT ip addresses visit here often?
by EndofMysteries inwebsite owners can get reports of ip addresses that visit their website.
it would be funny to find out if this site gets regular visits from wt locations.

Balaamsass2, nobody I knew had a smartphone, the guys with cellphones just had the old flip phones, but the overseers were given pagers. I assume Wallkill and Patterson would get 3G now, and Brooklyn 4G. Warwick will probably be 3G too. You had to pay for internet access as well, I think it was about $5/month? It's been almost 5 years since I left so my memory is hazy on the small stuff.

When I was at Bethel, I tried accessing this site and got the big "THIS WEBSITE HAS BEEN BLOCKED" warning with the reason being "apostate site" (every site has a generic warning, but torrent sites were fine!). You cannot get around the filter unless you found a really random, new porn site/porn gallery site, and the Computer Department checks your router's website history every once in awhile to see if you have been visiting pornographic sites or getting around the filter. The only way you'll get around this is if you are on a different network at Bethel, which is impossible in my mind, they simply do not have a "secret" network that allows unrestricted access.
Remember that regular members can visit this site, tell the CO what they read, who then reports to the local Bethel about it, so Bethel doesn't even need to monitor it themself, they hear everything from members, who then reports to the CO, which they then hear about.
Also I was never question about trying to get to this site, and if I was all I had to say was I clicked the wrong link in Google when searching "jehovahs witnesses".
Also the WT's IP range is 208.74.140.0 to 208.74.143.255

Adolf Hitler was responsible for millions of deaths and died at age 56
Joseph Stalin was responsible for millions of deaths and died age 74.
Mao Zedong was responsible for millions of deaths and died age 82.
The slimeballs Henry Kissinger and Dick Cheney are still alive at ages 92 and 73, respectively.
The ruthless Robert Mugabe is still alive at age 90 while millions of Zimbabweans starve and die of disease.
Shirō Ishii, the director of the terrible Unit 731, was immune from prosecution, despite commiting unspeakable acts to thousands of civilians, and died age 67.
Genghis Khan and the Mongols were responsible for reducing the world's population by 11%, with Khan dieing around age 65.
Pol Pot was responsible for millions of deaths and died age 72.
Hell even Keith Richards, who has survived a lifetime of drug addiction, is still alive at age 70.
Meanwhile, if you left Jehovah you'll die a horrific death before you're 30 because you disobeyed him!!!!! He singled you out because you left him, but he did nothing to Hitler, Stalin, etc.

Watchtower Library CDROM That Goes Back The Furthest?
by lambsbottom inhi y'all,.
.
can anyone give me the download for the wtcdrom that goes back the furthest (i think i heard it was 1993)?.
-
Richard_I
The oldest version seems to be the 1993 version, which came out in 1994 (link). My family never got a computer until '98/'99, and I don't think we kept those old CDs. As far as I can tell, there is no ISO available online of the old CDs, so you'll have to get it from a JW who still has the CD.

Thanks for this. 110 minutes on appealing, 90 minutes on reinstating, 95 minutes on how to conduct the Watchtower? Why do they need 95 minutes to go over that? The rest seems like generic talks.

666, Revelation, and preterism
by Richard_I inon reddit, there's a post about how 666 is mistranslated as 616 in revelation (thread).
666 and 616 are both correct.
if you read into revelations, very little is presented as actual prophecy- it's an analogous tale to describe the roman empire during their persecution of christianity.. 666 and 616 come from the hebrew tradition of converting words into numerical values.

On reddit, there's a post about how 666 is mistranslated as 616 in Revelation (thread). However, someone posted this very interesting comment which I thought I would share here:
666 and 616 are both correct. If you read into revelations, very little is presented as actual prophecy- it's an analogous tale to describe the roman empire during their persecution of Christianity.
666 and 616 come from the Hebrew tradition of converting words into numerical values. The Roman emporer, Nero, can either be written as נרון קסר (Neron Kaiser), or נרו קסר (Nero Caeser), which numerically represent 666 and 616 respectively.
This becomes more evident as you read the description of the beast;
And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.
The 7 kings are the emporer's of rome, Julius, Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula and Claudius are the kings who have fallen, Nero is the one who is being described, and Galba was to succeed him (remember, this was a retelling, not a prophecy.
And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies
Which is likely a reference to the roman emperor worship, and how Nero called himself the sun god Apollo
and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
As Nero's campaign against christianity began in 64 AD and ended 3 and a half years later.
and the final line makes it obvious that the number was made to that end:
Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.
ie, if you know how our system works, it should be obvious what we're talking about.
tl;dr, there's a large school of thought that the revelations section of the new testament is not a description of a coming apocalypse, but a teaching of the origins of Christianity, and their struggle with roman persecution.
You can see the comment here. I have never heard of this, and it is apparantly the preterism view of Revelation. IMO it makes a lot of sense viewing Revelation from this point of view. Just thought I'd share the comment.
