I'll be attending this. Nothing happens at them though, it's just the typical "you're not doing enough, here's a 2.5 hour rant" shit from some old man. -

What the hell? You use their new website to book a room? This is so weird for WT, they must get a kickback or some $ for a referral through this. Also, the fact they trained 40 guys "to become proficient in effective hotel negotiations" is just really weird. They must be pushing to the hotels that they can generate good money with the hundres to thousands of witnesses at the conventions. I know restaurants that now advertise to the JWs during the conventions because they tip well and many come in big groups. Showing their true colours, I guess -

Beth-Sarim mentioned in 1943 Yearbook
by Richard_I inthis is what the 1943 yearbook had to say about beth-sarim on pages 33-34:.
built in 1929, at san diego, california, the house named beth-sarim has been the focal point of much enemy ridicule because it was deeded to abraham, isaac, jacob, david, jephthah, and other righteous men of old whom god has promised to make "princes" in his new world.
much publicity has been given to beth-sarim, society property, due to naming it beth sarim, which means "house of the princes", in expectation of the resurrection of these faithful men of old to be "princes in all the earth".. it was at this home that brother rutherford, the former president of the watch tower bible & tract society, finished his earthly course of life, on january 8, 1942. immediately thereafter considerable publicity was again given the home.

This is what the 1943 Yearbook had to say about Beth-Sarim on pages 33-34:
Built in 1929, at San Diego, California, the house named Beth-Sarim has been the focal point of much enemy ridicule because it was deeded to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Jephthah, and other righteous men of old whom God has promised to make "princes" in His New World. Much publicity has been given to Beth-Sarim, Society property, due to naming it Beth Sarim, which means "house of the princes", in expectation of the resurrection of these faithful men of old to be "princes in all the earth".
It was at this home that Brother Rutherford, the former president of the WATCH TOWER BIBLE & TRACT SOCIETY, finished his earthly course of life, on January 8, 1942. Immediately thereafter considerable publicity was again given the home. It was the wish of the former president to be buried on this property, but the "city fathers", along with the religionists, put up a great howl. The details of the controversy will be found in Consolation No. 592.
The people of good-will in San Diego showed their desire to have Judge Rutherford's wishes complied with, by 14,693 of them signing a petition, but their desires were ignored. By the circulation of this petition a real witness was given in this territory for a period of months.
The brethren living at Beth-Sarim and on property adjoining thereto look after the interests of the Kingdom at that place. A course of study is conducted there similar to that at the Bethel home, under the direction of a competent instructor. Seven brethren that live there and take care of the property spend a great portion of their time in the field service, organizing study groups and caring for the people of good-will.
These provisions of the Lord-the Watchtower farm on Staten Island and the Kingdom farm at South Lansing, New York-make it possible for those working in New York city preparing the publications to have good food, and thus be enabled to carry on their strenuous duties. All of this provision reflects on the good production shown in this year's report from the 117 Adams Street office.
And that's it. Also, this is all mentioned on Beth-Sarim's Wikipedia article.

I looked up my old congs and they are all the same, 70% and 30%, and there is always an elder called a "fundraiser", along with "director" and "trustee". Must just be how they do the tax stuff.
EDIT
Assets include the Kingdom Hall itself, one of my old congs. had their own hall and moved into another with other congs and I see when they moved, their assets dropped by over $400,000.

Does Bethel have any woman Medical Doctors?
by VM44 inthe watchtower does not usually place women in positions of authority.. so, does anyone know if there have been any female medical doctors (any type, md, do or chiro) that worked at bethel recently?.
the only one that i know of was dr mae j work, but she was at bethel over 70 years ago!.

Yes, Canada bethel had a female doctor when I was there a few years back. At Wallkill there was at least one male doctor I believe, he lived in one of the houses on the farm property with his family.

Feeling sad over a wasted life in watchtower
by wannaexit init's been 12 years since i first read ray franz's books and the scales came off my eyes.
by that time i was in my forties.. since 2002 i went back to school and have worked with 3 very professional organizations.
but my biological clock is ticking away and while my peers are looking forward to retirement, i am only beginning.

I feel the same. I'll be 26 when I graduate from community college, whereas most people who I went to high school with graduated with degrees four years ago and have been working since then. I wasted 4 years in pioneering and bethel service, with shitty job experience. it fucking sucks

Elders: Born-Ins vs Recruits
by breakfast of champions inthis is an unofficial survey.. was curious as to the number of currently serving elders who were born-in and/or raised as jw versus those who were "recruited"( i.e, not born in or raised as jw.).
for instance, right now in the hall i am assigned to:.
2 elders were born-in and/or raised as jws.. 5 were not (recruited as adults).

80% (born-in) in one hall, 90% in another, 15% in another (the average age of the eder body was 65+), and maybe 60% in mine right now. As Ignoranceisbliss mentioned though, the elder bodies are mostly old in most of the congs I've been in, like average age is 65 or 70. The youngest elder I've met was 33, the oldest in his 90's. Average age of the elder body in some other congregations is mid 40s to late 50s.
