Literature being discontinued, including Isaiah's Prophecy and Reasoning book
by Richard_I incongregations get an annual letter that tells what can be ordered for literature (it's mainly a list of audio cds/dvds for the deaf), but this time it included publications that will be discontinued, and this included the isaiah's prophecy book and the reasoning book, and i think i saw the draw close to jehovah book.
i meant to take a picture of the letter but forgot.
the branch is only going to give what they have on stock, when that stock depletes that's it, you won't be able to order those publications anymore.. this is in canada so i don't know if this is worldwide..

Congregation average
by dothemath ina while back at our co visit, he commended the cong.
because our average hours had gone up.. we went from around 7.3 to about 7.5. i recall the days when anything less than 10 was considered awful.. of course now, they don't even print the hours in the km or anywhere.. i was wondering how these numbers compared to other congregations?.
-
Richard_I
in my cong of about 70 the average if you exclude pioneers is 10 hours and i think the bible study average was about 1 study per publisher. i must really bring down the average because i only write down 1 or 2 hours a month and no placements/RVs/studies. -

on the application to become a member of the worldwide order of special full-time servants of JWs, they still ask if you have ever had a homosexual relationship, and if you answer yes you have to explain. i remember showing my parents the form when i filled it out for bethel and they were creeped out that it asks that. -

What is the monthly stipend that the bethelites receive every month?
by StephaneLaliberte inwhat is the monthly stipend that the bethelites receive every month?
does any one has an actual number?
-
Richard_I
In Canada, it was something like $150/month. If you had a car, you could apply for another stipend that would help pay for gas, I think it was $450/yr or something like that (most bethelites were assigned to congregations 20-30 mins away like Milton or Mississauga). This was over 5 years ago. -

What is the org’s view on extraterrestrial life?
by My Name is of No Consequence ini am sure that it has been discussed before.
but just out of curiosity, what is the orgs view on extraterrestrial life?
the org certainly agrees that the universe is infinitely large.

UFOs and extraterrestrials are Satan and his buddy demons trying to mislead us, apparently.
g96 7/8 26-27 The Bible’s Viewpoint UFO’s—Messengers From God?:The Bible warns that Satan and his demons are intent on misleading mankind. They take advantage of mankind’s despair and hopelessness to offer attractive, but false, solutions. (2 Corinthians 11:14) Hence, the Bible warning: “In later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons.”—1 Timothy 4:1. In like manner today, any supposed visits and seemingly beneficial guidance from such beings should be rejected, whatever form they may take. Those who would rather follow the advice of “extraterrestrials” than God’s Word are bound to be misled—a terrible mistake to make in these critical times.

BBC: World's oldest-known living cancer '11,000 years old'
by GodZoo inhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-25864236 the world's oldest-known living cancer dates back 11,000 years, according to uk scientists.. it arose in a single dog and has survived in canines ever since, with the cancer cells passing between animals when they mate.. a team led by the wellcome trust sanger institute near cambridge decoded the dna of the cancer.. it revealed the "genetic identikit" of an ancient husky-like dog, which first developed the disease.so.. it seems that despite man being only 6,000 years old and 5,000 years before imperfection entered humanity and the natural world and when genesis 1:31 stated: "god saw all that he had made, and it was very good.
"he was already killing dogs and set them up to die very slow and painful deaths..

Also, something I learned just a few months ago - dinosaurs had cancer. Dinosaurs, who preceded man, had cancer.

Aus Bethel reducing numbers dramatically.
by joey jojo insorry if this is old news but just heard that there will only be about 75 people left at sydney bethel after layoffs.

when i was there a few years back the most canada bethel could hold was around 450, and that includes some rooms having 3 brothers assigned to it. seems like they want the number under 300 if they're letting go that many, there'll be lots of rooms empty though so i don't know what will happen with them. i don't even know if the schools are held there anymore, ministerial training school used to be held there with the notorious wayne johnson being one of the instructors but i thought i heard a few years back they do the schools in montreal now.
