  i know its a bit old, but i thought it was interesting and i only found out about this yesterday.

  i was going to those conventions in cornwall before (ontario, canada), and i had seen that pastor who was preaching.

  Didn;t this guy bring his kids or something with him? I recall seeing young people, like late teens, standing around holding signs a few years ago at Cornwall. Maybe it was someone else, but c'mon - who wants to stand around an arena, outside, in June/July when it can be 40+ with the humidex?? Go out and have some fun.

  Yeah I had to suffer thru it too.

  His stupid "guy tried to kill himself to escape OCD, but instead cured it, so don't go to this extreme" illustration (or whatever the hell you call it) annoyed me - he used a man's attempted suicide as a joke basically.

  Also wow at his porn facts - I think he REALLY liked talking about those stats. He talked about how many ppl access porn sites in a minute, in an hour, how many films are produced in the US in 24 hours, how 9/10 men and 3/10 women regularly access online porn, etc.
  

  After that I lost concentration and have no recollection of what exactly he talked about - he's a terribly dull speaker. But yeah he came down super hard on education.

  He brought up the fact that "70% of freshman go to post-secondary for MORE MONEY" - of course this is what ppl focus on when going to post-secondary. Does he seriously expect people to make over $20/hour without a post-secondary education, with the exception of trades? (I know you can get a good salary without post-secondary but this is increasingly hard to do in the 2010s) I guess we all should be making minimum wage for the rest of our lives and focus on pioneering!

  "the first killings came on december 2, 1984, when four jehovah's witness missionaries, two men and two women, knocked on the door of a drug lord.

  godoy, who was then also working as a body guard for ernesto fonseca, another guadalajara kingpin, said the missionaries were tortured and the women raped.

  Godoy told WFAA that Guzman shot the missionaries one by one, letting their bodies fall into an open grave. The bodies have never been recovered."

  Incredibly sad to think of the last hours of those 4 poor Witnesses. Comments in this thread on reddit.com/r/exjw say that this was known about and kept secret.

  now they have their names and addresses in which to raid their homes.. i sometimes wonder if the gb knew this would happen and wanted it to happen to ensure they'd be persecuted thus creating their own fulfillment of prophecy..

  "The men who stormed into the hall were armed with handguns and clad in masks and bullet proof vests, as if prepared for a shootout. Inside, several dozen worshipers, many of whom were children or elderly, were in the midst of a Bible reading.

  The raid, led by the police and Federal Security Services (FSB) officers last May in Oryol, targeted the Jehovah’s Witnesses, a Christian denomination known for its strict interpretation of the Bible. A month earlier, a Supreme Court decision had declared it an extremist group, putting it on par with violent terrorist organizations like Islamic State.

  The Jehovah’s Witnesses in recent years had increasingly come under the authorities’ spotlight. Analysts told The Moscow Times that the group had been swept up in Russia’s drive to reign in minority religious groups that rival the Orthodox Church and oppose President Vladimir Putin’s militaristic brand of patriotism.

  But the crackdown on the Jehovah’s Witnesses, analysts said, did not take off in earnest until the raid in Oryol. It marked the first arrest following the Supreme Court ruling, notably of a Danish citizen, Dennis Christensen, who had been leading the Bible reading that late spring evening.

  On Monday, after being held in a pre-trial detention center for 11 months, the proceedings, which his lawyers say could last up to three months, finally began. Fighting charges of extremism, Christensen faces up to 10 years in prison."

  Disfellowshipped/disassociated – How did your parents handle it?

  to those who were disfellowshipped/disassociated – how did your still-in parents handle it?.

  i don’t want to fade, so i am thinking about disassociating soon – i don’t care if i’m playing by the org’s rules, i just want out.. however, i am concerned about how my parents will react.

  i don’t want them to become super depressed or whatever due to me leaving the org.. i don’t want them to be hurt by my decision to leave the org, but i feel like there is no way of avoiding this..

  Thank you so much for this! I remember the phone book when I was in Wallkill a number of years ago! If you look under Brooklyn, you'll find all the heavies and their departments - e.g. on page 53 of the 2015 PDF you can see the members of the Teaching and Service committees, and page 54 has the Writing committee and Writing Department members.

  Noticed the GB are not in there.

  They are, actually! At least in the 1999 and 2015 edition. The 2017 version is odd though, it is missing the GB.
  

  Now, if you want to know who is really pulling the strings in the organization - in the 1999 version (I also remember it in the 2010 version), look for Brooklyn's Executive Offices (page 33 of the PDF). These are the real men behind the curtain. For some reason they removed this section in the 2015 version, perhaps due to the ongoing move to Warwick.

  I remember when I was in Wallkill looking at this list. I remember looking up the names and department on Bethel's intranet directory where you could see their portraits to put a face to the names (they were listed under Administration or something like that)

  The 1999 version lists the following people:

  Adams, Don

  Borroto, Yan

  Cox, Brett

  Crane, Brion

  Dellinger, Joel

  Ellison, Todd

  Henschel, Milton

  Rules on movies tv and video games

  i hated the rules that are set by jws.. like video games they say all the time ''we are not saying give up all video games''etc.but from all they list as a game you cant play you might as well stop playing.. when it comes to movies i get really mad im a big fan of stephen king's it but oh no cant see that.but i hear later that some other jws talk about how good the movie was and they saw it.. im so done.

  You just made me remember the time a brother said he knew an elderly brother who called G-rated movies "G for Garbage". I couldn't even think of G-rated movies, most movies now are PG or PG13

  Aylmer, QC, Assembly hall for sale?

  i heard rumors that the jws are seeking to sell that assembly hall, is this possible?

  anyone has wind of it?

  i heard this once from someone a few month back and now, again, from mike and kim.

  It would be insane to close that assembly hall, that's the only one in the region. The next closest assembly hall is the one in Montreal I think, which is 2+ hours away. And there were 3 assemblies there in September and more late this month/November, so it gets a lot of use. It would make no sense to sell it.
  

  It was designed by Douglas Cardinal so it could probably be sold for a couple million.

  There were rumours of it being renovated shortly before the RBC was renamed to the LDC, since then I have heard nothing.

  the wayans were raised as jw's but i don't think any of them stated.. strange to see him here.

  this is the same man who defended bill cosby from all the sex abuse allegations..
