Suicide Attempts
by APieceOfShitNamedTate indoes anyone know if the new elders' manual addresses attempted suicide?
in the previous manual, it was seen as a potential judicial matter, which is absolutely ridiculous.
have they changed it?

Disfellowshipped/disassociated – How did your parents handle it?
by Richard_I into those who were disfellowshipped/disassociated – how did your still-in parents handle it?.
i don’t want to fade, so i am thinking about disassociating soon – i don’t care if i’m playing by the org’s rules, i just want out.. however, i am concerned about how my parents will react.
i don’t want them to become super depressed or whatever due to me leaving the org.. i don’t want them to be hurt by my decision to leave the org, but i feel like there is no way of avoiding this..

So far I've still just faded. I last went out in service in January 2018 and the last meeting I went to was in July 2018.
I visit my parents about once a month and we don't talk about witness stuff, but I think they know I don't attend meetings anymore - my mom used to ask me if I went and I would always say "no" and she hasn't asked me in months (we live in the same city but different attend different congs).
I have not received anything from anyone who was in my congregation really - no texts/calls other than like a phone call from my COBE (who was also my group overseer) a few months ago wanting to know how I was doing. I didn't answer and didn't reply to his voice mail.
This week my COBE texted me twice to let me know that my meeting was cancelled due to the snow we've been getting... Even tho he hasn't seen me since July, and its February now. I didn't reply to his messages.
Anyway I really feel like mailing my disassociation letter now. I've been living on my own for a few years now. I don't want to make up an excuse to my COBE so he can stop texting me.
I have no intention on going to the memorial, nor the big convention that will be held in my city this year. I haven't told my parents about this yet.
My parents will be upset that I disassociate but I don't think that matters to me anymore. I barely text/talk to them, mainly in anticipation of this event so that they're used to not knowing anything that goes on in my life. I just don't care for this religion or any religion at all anymore.

France had failed to make the case for its ban, the committee said, giving Paris 180 days to report back to say what actions it had taken. The panel's findings are not legally binding but could influence French courts.
"In particular, the Committee was not persuaded by France's claim that a ban on face covering was necessary and proportionate from a security standpoint or for attaining the goal of 'living together' in society," it said.”
Guess the UN isn’t gonna turn on religion anytime soon 🙄

Why are they announcing 2019 conventions so early?
by Richard_I ini was just told there will be international conventions in canada in 2019. .
so i looked at jw.org and i see that there's a whole bunch of conventions now listed on the site for 2019.. isn't this odd?
normally we were told the location of conventions during the first week of january.. did they realize there was less in attendance in the 2018 conventions, and want to give ppl more time to make travel arrangements??

i was going to those conventions in cornwall before (ontario, canada), and i had seen that pastor who was preaching.

I don't know if it's the same guy, but there was a guy with a megaphone across from the convention site in Cornwall today, rambling about the book of John and other stuff, as myself and other Witnesses had to cross the street and pass by him to get to their cars. He also had what looked like a camera recording video attached to him.
All this really does is make him look like a lunatic...

Didn;t this guy bring his kids or something with him? I recall seeing young people, like late teens, standing around holding signs a few years ago at Cornwall. Maybe it was someone else, but c'mon - who wants to stand around an arena, outside, in June/July when it can be 40+ with the humidex?? Go out and have some fun.

Gerrit Lösch gives a special talk the Norval Assembly Hall in Georgetown Canada

Yeah I had to suffer thru it too.
His stupid "guy tried to kill himself to escape OCD, but instead cured it, so don't go to this extreme" illustration (or whatever the hell you call it) annoyed me - he used a man's attempted suicide as a joke basically.
Also wow at his porn facts - I think he REALLY liked talking about those stats. He talked about how many ppl access porn sites in a minute, in an hour, how many films are produced in the US in 24 hours, how 9/10 men and 3/10 women regularly access online porn, etc.
After that I lost concentration and have no recollection of what exactly he talked about - he's a terribly dull speaker. But yeah he came down super hard on education.
He brought up the fact that "70% of freshman go to post-secondary for MORE MONEY" - of course this is what ppl focus on when going to post-secondary. Does he seriously expect people to make over $20/hour without a post-secondary education, with the exception of trades? (I know you can get a good salary without post-secondary but this is increasingly hard to do in the 2010s) I guess we all should be making minimum wage for the rest of our lives and focus on pioneering!
Including the musical interlude, Watchtower summary, Canada stats, and Losch's talk, the program was 2h 40m... zzzzzzz

"The first killings came on December 2, 1984, when four Jehovah's Witness missionaries, two men and two women, knocked on the door of a drug lord. Godoy, who was then also working as a body guard for Ernesto Fonseca, another Guadalajara kingpin, said the missionaries were tortured and the women raped.
They "knocked on the wrong door," Vigil said, and the traffickers "believed they were informants or DEA agents trying to gather information.
Godoy told WFAA that Guzman shot the missionaries one by one, letting their bodies fall into an open grave. The bodies have never been recovered."
Incredibly sad to think of the last hours of those 4 poor Witnesses. Comments in this thread on reddit.com/r/exjw say that this was known about and kept secret.

Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia Interrogated by Masked Police
by pale.emperor inhttp://www.newsweek.com/jehovahs-witnesses-russia-ban-police-903021?utm_source=quora.
i guess the gb's idea of writing to the russian government last year didn't help?
now they have their names and addresses in which to raid their homes.. i sometimes wonder if the gb knew this would happen and wanted it to happen to ensure they'd be persecuted thus creating their own fulfillment of prophecy..

Here's an article in the Moscow Times, publish April 27 2018
Russia’s Crackdown on Jehovah’s Witnesses Begins With a Foreigner
"The men who stormed into the hall were armed with handguns and clad in masks and bullet proof vests, as if prepared for a shootout. Inside, several dozen worshipers, many of whom were children or elderly, were in the midst of a Bible reading.
The raid, led by the police and Federal Security Services (FSB) officers last May in Oryol, targeted the Jehovah’s Witnesses, a Christian denomination known for its strict interpretation of the Bible. A month earlier, a Supreme Court decision had declared it an extremist group, putting it on par with violent terrorist organizations like Islamic State.
The Jehovah’s Witnesses in recent years had increasingly come under the authorities’ spotlight. Analysts told The Moscow Times that the group had been swept up in Russia’s drive to reign in minority religious groups that rival the Orthodox Church and oppose President Vladimir Putin’s militaristic brand of patriotism.
But the crackdown on the Jehovah’s Witnesses, analysts said, did not take off in earnest until the raid in Oryol. It marked the first arrest following the Supreme Court ruling, notably of a Danish citizen, Dennis Christensen, who had been leading the Bible reading that late spring evening.
On Monday, after being held in a pre-trial detention center for 11 months, the proceedings, which his lawyers say could last up to three months, finally began. Fighting charges of extremism, Christensen faces up to 10 years in prison."
