I had a good Christian elder reassure me that my baptism was between me and God NOT an organisation. He later left in the aftermath of Ray Franz being disfellowshipped.

Can 70 years be symbolic in the Bible?

in my morning bible reading i came across the above verse were 70 years is equated to the span of a kings life !
the wbts along will many seem to take a very rigid approach with dates and numbers and apply it to date setting end times etc, ...when it may be just a generalization.

In late 1977 articles began to appear in the general press, as well as in scientific magazines, about a forthcoming book by Robert R. Newton, The Crime of Claudius Ptolemy (Baltimore: Johns Hopkins University Press, 1977), which attempts to prove that the ancient Alexandrian astronomer fabricated much of his observational data and manipulated computations to prove his astronomical theories. What difference does Ptolemy's astronomy make to the readers of MINISTRY? Probably none at all.
However, Newton's book extrapolates from the main astronomical argument to a necessity for overhauling ancient Babylonian chronology, beginning with 747 B.C., in the period corresponding to the latter part of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. Has the dating of a considerable segment of Old Testament history been thrown into doubt?
Inquiries about this have come in from some who have read a press report, not the book itself, which is almost entirely technical astronomical argument. This press item has been cited by Jehovah's Witnesses in vindication of their own rejection of Ptolemy's chronology.
They shift Nebuchadnezzar 21 years earlier and so have 2,520 years from his year 19 (his destruction of Jerusalem) to 1914 (their date for God's kingdom). Some who end the 69 weeks in A.D. 30 use Anstey's outmoded (yet recently re printed chronology, which proposes moving Cyrus 82 years later—long after his son Cambyses—so as to begin the weeks at his year 1. Neither shift is possible.
I would not put $1 dollar on any date with certainty, you are setting yourself up for the same faith as the WBTS by using dates to prove your authority as a Christ (gods only channel) which have failed for them and will for you also.

Another scripture that has questionable language with regard to satan
by cptkirk inof course even people with novice level bible understanding know that paul had a "thorn in the flesh", what they may not know, or not have bothered to also observe is the bizarre language with which was used to convey this thought.. "turn with me in your bibles please to 2corinthians 12:7" <----lol.
an "angel of satan" was sent to paul.......hmmm, were the writers of the bible apostates?
they called satan's minion an angel?

At the risk of being attacked by the obvious critics, and of course they are entitled to their opinion.
The bible gives us examples of this type of "procedure" that can cause "cognitive dissidence". The kings of Babylon, Cyrus of Persia, Pharaoh of Egypt, Joseph's brothers. All contributed to God's overall plan and at the same time the "agents" used were responsible for their actions......
In my simple mortal mind, I have to except as a believer, that God's ways are not my ways. As Christ is slain in eternity, before the FOUNDING of the world, I now perceive his plans, as a master chess player that can see, all the variables of free will choices of every individual in "TIME" and still use and hold accountable all, in accomplishing his intended creation of immortal sons and daughters. Ephesians 1:3-10. IMHO

the wine taken at the memorial of christ's death represents this life, given as a sacrifice to atone for adamic sins.
jesus said that unless you eat of his flesh and drink of his blood, you have no life in yourself.

Blood symbolizes LIFE in the Bible, so LIFE is more important than the symbol. That's one of the reasons the WBTS policy is wrong, opinionated and dangerous.
And Yes, we symbolically get a transfusion from Christ, the major difference is, it's of Eternal Qualtiy and duration! 1 John 5:9-13, John 3:6
