when i was about 6/7 there was a talk that made reference to the violence of teenage mutant ninja turtles.

when we got home, all my tmnj figures were packed up into a plastic bag and put away in the loft.

I remember my brother and I having to get rid of certain albums after specific artists were mentioned at the assembly in the 80's. I had to get rid of Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' and he had to get rid of Van Halen. I also remembered them mentioning Twisted Sister, never had their album though lol. Was huge into the smurfs and watched them all the time until the society decided they were evil.

My parents were very liberal but I do remember the feeling of being different in school, esp at holidays. It's not a good feeling, every kid has a natural desire to fit in with the crowd. Glad my kids won't have to worry about that. I love it when my son gets invited to birthday parties.

So I just got finished watching the video (it helps to have a glass of wine while viewing). I have to admit that the production is actually good, never had that kind of thing when I was growing up. Can tell they are really trying to appeal to the younger people with the corporate environment, coffee house, and bar scenes. However, the message is still the same. Guilt and more guilt. Poor guy never had a chance with everyone jumping down his throat after just starting that job. Set up for failure from the very beginning. Hang out with wordly people it will only lead to a bad outcome. Why can't they make the version where he's able to find another job, stay in the city, and have a normal healthy relationship with that nice girl? They would never want you to see that now would they.

Thanks for posting the link to the video maninthemiddle, gonna try to watch it this week-end. My mom said it made her cry. I guess that is what they want to accomplish with the video, tug at people's heart strings.

so since we have not been to a meeting in 6 months or so, i decided to ask my daughter (on the way home from cheerleading practice - yeah i can't believe i am letting her engage in such a worldly activity lol) if she misses going to the kingdom hall.

she says sometimes because she can't see her friend - but she has made new friends so it doesn't bother her too much.

so i ask her, "well, what about learning about jehovah?

Great video, thanks for sharing. It amazes me how some witnesses will shun family and friends when they're not even disfellowshipped. Crazy.

My First Birthday!!!!!

my birthday isn't until the end of july but yesterday i got my first birthday gift in the mail.

my best friend (stubborn disbeliever) sent me my gift early.

i know what it is, but seeing it all wrapped up and knowing on my birthday i can open it...it really struck a cord with me.

It took me a little while to get over that feeling that I was doing something bad by celebrating my birthday. Now I don't even give it a second thought, and I enjoy my kids' birthdays now. Man-made rules full of nonsense.

accept the torture stake involved in confessing union with christ.

then they cite the example of a brother who is thankful to his wife for persisting in preaching to him.. now they are talking about disfellowshipping, lay serious guilt trip .the brother talking about his baby sister getting disfellowshipped, how his father cried for the first time.

Smurf WArs

growing up in the uk we didnt hear any stories about smurfs being demonic or evil etc, i watched the smurfs without a bad consciense.. what were the stories?

the rules and the reasons why?

how widespread was this crazy idea?.

I watched the Smurfs in the 80's it was one of my favorites as a kid, and I had a smurf t-shirt and the little figurines. Of course till the society said they were demonized. I remember a few yrs ago when they made a comeback with the new version of the movie, my son got a smurf toy in his happy meal and my mom said 'remember what the society has said about them, you should throw it away'. I said 'yeah that's stupid'. And she replied 'that's apostate thinking!'

The society is doing the very same thing with the likes of Sparlock, just trying to put a modern spin on it with the dvds and stuff. Makes me so angry that they are making such a fuss over things like toys and putting fear into the kids' minds. And I do remember them specifically naming bands at assemblies, my brother had to throw away his Van Halen album.

I don't get it ... 80% of people in Oklahoma DON'T have a Tornado Shelter. Are they nuts ????

i really don't understand.

how can any homeowner in his right mind, not have a tornado shelter ???

i understand that some people live in apartments and condos, but someone with any size yard (even a driveway) could have a shelter.. to me it's a no-brainer.

My family is in Oklahoma, my parents had a 'safe room' built in the garage, I believe that is what parakeet might have been talking about. If Im correct it has steel beams that go about 6 feet into the ground and can withstand up to an F4 but not an F5. We've had to get in there a good number of times during warnings. I know they're expensive but I do believe that they were able to get a good part of it back from the government, this was maybe 9 yrs ago so I don't know if they would still have such a program in place. They really need to build shelters in the schools, that should be priority.

i have been reading post on this forum for many months and i wanted to thank you all for all the great posts and comments that have really helped me get through this hard year of fading.

my husband and i where born in jdubs and almost 1 year ago we started to fade , now that we think about it has been a few years that we were suffering from cognitive dissonance without knowing it.

we feel that finally we have our life back , a life that is just starting.

Welcome, sorry your family is shunning you esp. since you aren't DF'd, is this an unwritten rule now or something? Take comfort that you and your husband are on the same page and lean on eachother for support. Looking forward to hearing your story.
