Went to a viewing at a Catholic Church...not what I expected
by PaintedToeNail ina child in my daughter's class lost his mother very recently.
we went to the viewing last night at the local catholic church.
in the foyer area there was a bulletin board with pamphlets regarding child sex abuse, including by the church, in both english and spanish.

I had the same exact feelings when I went to a mass recently, they had someone read a letter from a charity explaining the need for donations, it was around the holidays. They then passed a basket around and if you were able to donate great, if not that was fine too, it wasn't pressured in the least. I was impressed that they were doing this for the community. Then later during the mass they had everyone shake hands with the people you are sitting next to and say 'peace be with you'. I thought it to be a pleasant experience, it was definitely much more positive than I was lead to believe growing up. -

Resurrection talk at convention
by innerpeace ini didn't go to the convention but have family who did, all are going on about the resurrection talk, how there wasn't a dry eye in the arena.
and apparently a video was shown too on it.
we lost a family member some years back and they are on fb talking about the resurrection and new world coming soon.

Watched the video, I can see where it would hit a raw emotional nerve with everyone, esp those that have recently lost loved ones. Nice of them to get people so upset after making all that effort to go.

So sorry Tiff, there's some good comments and advice on here. I agree that he is prob having inner turmoil cause that is the witness way, guilt and more guilt, all topped off with fear. The conventions have a way of making those feelings worse, they get everyone in a frenzy.
I would not be married to my wonderful non jw husband had I listened to some people. I wasn't about to let him go after throwing away almost 10 yrs of my life with a so called witness with a ton of issues. I knew that in order to be happy and to have the things I wanted in life, which included having kids, I would need to follow my heart and leave religion out of it.
I agree taking a step back from it all is a good idea, and to get busy doing other things and meeting new people. I wish you all the best

Enjoying everyone's comments. I know it's nothing new for them to use emotional manipulation since I was brought up in it, just noticed how family was talking about this and the convention itself. Love that quote too DNCall, today's fare requires turning up the violins. Great stuff.

Agree the video was definately for emotional manipulation, even though I didn't see, my mom told me about it. How the woman's mother dies and then later appears in her kitchen. Sounds more like a horror movie.
