I have heard a Witness use the word "fallacy" as an adjective referring to phallic symbols. It was one of those "don't look up to see if other people are looking around" moments because I was trying not to have a WTF reaction on my face.

Wow, the conscious class keeps on growing, another newbie introduction post! Welcome, awakening. I wish I'd had the ability to see Witnesses from another perspective like you did from a younger age. For me, one lightbulb moment was when I heard a farfetched story related in our car group. I tried Googling it to see if I could confirm one part of it, and found it online as an urban legend, except with the Witnesses replaced with another marginalized group. It helped me to see that the JWs had the same superstitious and gullible attitudes as people in other minority/cult-like groups. That started me wondering whether the Witnesses were really a special group out of the whole world, or just thought they were.

Hubby and Wifey saying Hi
by free and happy inso where do you start?.
i've been reading peoples experiences for several months now trying to figure out what i want to say but how do you put your whole life into a few words?.
i was a born in but have been happy and free for 5 years and luckily for me my husband felt the same way and we have freed our children from being brainwashed.

Welcome, it was sad to read your story, but it had a happy ending! I was a cruiser too, and so I've had to do a lot of studying to catch up on my basic Bible knowledge (that I thought I already had!) while mentally leaving the religion. For people like me, it usually takes an external poke of some kind, sometimes painful, to be motivated to stop going with the flow and think critically about the organization. I admire the ones who were thinking critically from a young age, but there's many more like us than like them. It's human nature!

The 2013 Special Talk "Does Death End It All"... Spanish version eliminates the word "Nanotechnology"
by Calebs Airplane inremember this incredibly stupid sentence in the 2013 special talk (posted on this board in recent months)?:.
"despite nanotechnology, humans can neither create life nor restore it.".
well apparently, the english-to-spanish translator (who wrote the spanish version of the 2013 special talk outline) apparently realized that the use of the word "nanotechnology" in this outline was completely irrelevant and childish... so he simply substituted the word "nanotechnology" with the phrase "great scientific advancements".

That's funny. Perhaps the translator couldn't bear to write something so stupid. Either that or he felt that the audience in many Spanish-speaking countries would not know the word (in all fairness, I am pretty sure most Americans could not define "nanotechnology" in a man-on-the-street poll other than to say, "Small... technology?").

Vengeance Dad Meme--I think I want to do some JW-based ones...
by sd-7 ini was just reading some random memes and came across this one.
it's truly insane, but maybe my sense of humor is such that i laughed rather hard at quite a few of the ones using this photo.
i was thinking, how could i adapt this one to jws?

The "angel must've been late" and Sparlock ones are my favorite. I actually hadn't seen this meme before, but these were great!

Music you never noticed was ...
by nibbled ini have friends in very cool jobs.
my world interacts quite often with music stars, and i have interesting conversations.
for instance, i was talking with the members of animal kingdom, and asked the lead singer about the lyrics i picked up while listening them perform for the group a few minutes earlier... i felt stupid because i hadn't realized the name of the song, and only had caught a few lyrics... he wrote of mephistopheles.

I really liked Billy's thoughts on the subject. And yes, Christmas music is known to be a well that never runs dry for both spiritual singers and sufficiently-cynical non-spiritual ones.
And as only me points out, sometimes we're just projecting when we think we hear something in a song. I used to think that Dave Matthews' "Lie In Our Graves" was about his belief in an afterlife, when in fact it's sort of the opposite. It's a carpe diem message about making the most of our lives while we have them, so we can embrace death when it comes.

To circumcise or not to circumcise?

@Diest(sp?): You don't think that mankind would be better off without the constant drive towards pleasure-seeking? Think of all the rash actions and decisions that stem from people's biological urges. Only by advancing to a less emotional state will we be able to survive as a species and avoid doing more harm to our environment. If circumcision lessens the enjoyment of sex, that means it probably lessens the addictiveness of sex; how can that not be a good thing, in a dangerously over-populated world? The originators of the practice made a choice to put hygiene, and later sanctity, above pleasure. We should be moving forward in the same direction if we're going to consider ourselves a progressive species.

It's funny "why do you care?" doesn't carry much tone of voice but at least it implies you're interested in the person.
It's true. I don't understand the mentality behind "who cares?" when someone has taken the time to write an extensive post on a subject that obviously they care about.
I see lots of topics on here I'm not interested in. I don't post in them.

Yes, there's a big difference between being old enough to parrot what adults have told you, and being old enough to think critically and be willing to read outside information. I was baptized rather late for a born-in, but I still wasn't old enough.

Your mother would probably be happy in a local church. She might meet some people she feels closer too, and would still have the satisfaction of living a "godly" life in the same way that AnnOMaly's KM excerpt describes. She'd just have to learn to let go of the "Babylon the Great" mentality, and that's a big thing for a Witness to get over.
