Implications of Dropping "Types/Anti-Types"

the hermenuetics of the type/anti-type practice was a big deal to me in realizing the tatt.
i searched high and low for a rational basis for concluding that god was communicating in a type/anti-type format that wasn't special pleading and circular.

Well, all they're really saying is that they won't read a type/antitype into a passage if it's not "warranted". This gives them plenty of license to still see types/antitypes where they want to. They're not dropping the concept of types/antitypes, just telling us that they're moving away from F. Franz's antitypophilia.

OEJ, myself, and many others here are born-ins. We didn't particularly ask to be born into it and are trying to claw our way out. However, this forum has a non-representative fraction of ex-JWs and "conscious class" JWs. Many ex-JWs still think it's the truth or might be the truth. The ones who are here are largely the ones who, active JWs or not, were unafraid of contrary information and tended to think for themselves a bit more. That being said, many of us believed it was the truth until we were well into adulthood.

Personally I think it's even sillier to ban martial arts for self-defense than guns. It's much less likely to kill someone and vastly less likely to injure someone by accident. If JWs can only defend with their hands then why not at least allow them to use their hands skillfully? It seems that they decided beforehand that they just didn't like martial arts and then looked for ways to impugn it, such as the tenuous connection to Eastern religion.

Come to think of it, this is a continuation of the same trend seen in the announcement that "the toes mean nothing". Now it's "the loaves mean nothing", "the talents mean nothing", "the goggles do nothing", etc. Oops, that last one is from something else.

In a way, I think "new light" triggers the same part of the brain in true believers that is triggered for gamers who get an Achievement on an Xbox or Steam game. It's like, "Wow, I made a little progress! Good for me!" It gives a constant feeling of incremental improvement. When a speaker at a convention is relating something new to the audience ("The toes mean nothing!"), a little 'ding' should sound and a message appear, "New Light Unlocked: -THE TOES MEAN NOTHING-".
