Most people here will just tell you to run, run far away from the religion while you have the chance. Personally I think if you don't mind hearing things from the platform that most of us regard as nonsense, then maybe give it a try. But keep in mind that you will be expected to give talks and go in service, unless you don't mind being on the social fringe and being looked at as "weak" or odd by your fellow Witnesses.

Encinitas Congregation Encinitas CA.
by exwhyzee inanyone from that hall?.
we attended a memorial for a long time friend there this past weekend.
it was my first time in a kingdom hall since memorial 2008. as per usual, the people were lovely but the message had gaps and left me feeling somewhat blank and cold.

My Macs pretty much never die. I still use one I bought in 2000 from time to time. Apple was still issuing updates for it as of a few years ago even though the hardware and OS were obsolesced long ago. I also have a 1st generation iPod touch that still works perfectly. People keep saying that the batteries don't last, but this one still holds a charge, and it's just turned eight years old. Besides Apple products, I can't think of any that exceeded my expectations.

Sorry, I just didn't want to see the resident conspiracy theorists get wound up over the names of various Watchtower locations. We have a few people here who think they can divine deep meanings from words just because they sound like other words.

"Kill" means "creek" in Dutch and "war" is a weir, a low dam, from the Old English.

It's impossible for us to say how the people in your cong., or your parents, will react. Just play it by ear. If people start putting pressure on you, you might decide to ease off the pressure by attending a bit more. However, it's ultimately just prolonging the inevitable "breakup" in the relationship, so it's all a matter of how ready you are to cut the cord.

Re Hostage victims killed in Sydney: "dont worry, at least they will NOW get a ressurection"
by stuckinarut2 inso most would now know of the vile act in sydney last week where a man held hostage over 17 people in the lindt cafe in the middle of sydney.. two people were murdered...a beautiful, educated lawyer, loving mother of three, and a brave, loving young man working as the cafe manager.. this senseless and cruel act has touched everyone deeply, especially in the communities of sydney.
the outpouring of grief and support for the victims and their families has been immense.. i was therefore outraged to have the following comment made by a witness in conversation at the kingdom hall:.
"well, we dont need to be sad, because at least now they (the two victims) will get a ressurection.

Well, the Zodiac Killer indicated that he was killing people in order to collect slaves to be with him in Paradise....

New forum 'parousia' is upon us! (software version)
by Simon inthe time has nearly come to switch over to the new forum software.
of course it's not completely finished yet (and never will be) but i think it's good enough to go live with and probably already better than the current one.
i'll give you a quick overview of what to expect and post more detail about the changeover process later.. cloud platform.

does the new forum have an "active" button?
It would be better if it didn't. Most forums require you to view each subforum one at a time, keeping things nice and organized. The Active Topics view is a weird animal because it shows all subforums mixed together, and you can't make a new thread in it because it's not a forum, which is confusing to new users.
I'd like to second Terry's request for the ability to subscribe to threads, and email notification of PMs would be great too.

Yep, we still use it. Reader beware: old light ahead.

Well, now you will at least get a warning if you start posting or editing something and try to navigate away. I am going to work on having it save drafts locally to protect against browser crashes as well.
Ah, yes, in fact I think this may be the most important improvement you can make. I type all my long posts in a text editor just to prevent this. On the Mac, at least in Firefox, Command-Shift-left/right arrow, normally used to navigate to the start/end of a line of text, will cause the browser to navigate back/forward, wiping the post I was trying to reposition the cursor in. This doesn't happen in other forum software, so I had to learn the hard way to stop using that key combo whenever I'm on this particular forum and use Option-Shift-arrow instead to move one word at a time. It was a very Pavlovian learning experience to become disabused of that shortcut through the trauma of lost posts (think of animals being shocked electrically instead of rewarded with food).
What you are describing sounds more like a forum coerced into use as a Wiki.
I'm not sure what you mean. Are you referring to my examples of editing old posts? Updating the first post in a thread is very common practice for threads that are used for:
- releases (software, charts, etc.), because usually the first post should be changed to reflect later versions when they're released (a link might need to be updated, or an instruction changed),
- compilation threads ("Let's compile a list of examples where the Society's publications contradicted modern-day medical wisdom"), and
- "papers" which might need corrections based on subsequent discussion. E.g., this was the most labor-intensive topic I ever created, but despite my best efforts I still made a few factual errors which were pointed out by other members. If I could have edited the original post, it would have prevented my giving out any incorrect information in what I felt was a very important post that deserved a lot of attention from active Witnesses.

If we had a PDF of the old and new versions, we could use the same program that MeanMrMustard developed for analyzing the NWT revision, expect that it would be much more effective on the Bible Teach book than with the myriad tiny changes in the NWT. That being said, one of the main changes to the new Bible Teach book is apparently replacing the old NWT quotations with the rNWT text.
