One of the "Urban Legends" was actually in a Yearbook (70's I think). There was an highly ranked SS-officer (at the deathmars) who was swearing against Jehovah or something and the next day he was dead because he was stung by thousands of red ants...

Too bad these angels seem not to appear when a JW boy/girl gets raped by an evil person...

Had a similair experience once while being in the car with my wife. When I am bored I read on JWN and this time I forgot to close the chrome tab on my phone so when she was asking if she could use the internet on the phone the site just popped up. You know what? I simply did not care :P but she did not like it a bit. It washed over anyways and besides... she already had some idea's of me visiting these sites.

WT simplifying dates? other thought on Dec 15 edition.
by prologos intrivial but interesting:.
1) page 23 : simplified memorial date : 4 numbers only: 14 / 4/ 20 14 -or- 4 / 14 / 20 14 -or- 20 14 / 4 / 14. it is only numerology, and if you switched between julian& gregorian calenders, the order would disappear , yet if we could have an eclipse too, like we had in the 60s in eastern north america, icing on the cake.. 2) the front cover, two huge stones piled in the back yard of the house, precariously perched.
perhaps an attempt to please god through service 6000 bc.

The Tree of Life, Asherah, and Her Snakes
by Leolaia inthe garden of eden narrative in genesis 2-3 (j) is generally thought to have a mythological background, and its sumerian and akkadian parallels have been widely noted: the resemblence between the tale of adapa and the story of adam and eve's deception regarding the death-dealing fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, the story of adam's creation and life with the animals and the tale of enkidu from the epic of gilgamesh, the edenic blessedness described in the tale of enmerkar, and so forth.
the canaanite and phoenician parallels however are not noted as often -- though these would be more pertinent to the native judean context of the eden narrative.
this post will explore some of these parallels in an attempt to trace the mythological background of the eden story, which is complex and multi-layered.

Ok... bumped this because I was researching this matter (because I found it strange that Asherah of all goddesses is symbolised by a tree and has a stron connection with El and Yahweh.
Very very VERY interesting peace of post :)

Have you noticed that the first guy is totally hammered down by all the JW's? I feel sorry for the guy since he is right (do he should not have called it "facts"). I have commented also but these still need to be added by the moderators.

What Was Your First Experience In Exposing Yourself To "Apostasy"?
by minimus inas a young teenager, i would look at "apostate" books at the city library.
i was always intrigued as to what was sooo bad and other than a few writings of some that seemed like they hated the witnesses, i would clandestinely look at literature, especially in "christian" bookstores.. it took years for me to finally disconnect.
i will say that ray franz' books enlightened me the most!.

My turnaround was a watchtower about the new song book. CTR went into a church because he liked the songs and then he regained his faith...
I was actually shocked to read that since "babylon the great" lead him to regain faith...

Since most JW's HATE giving talks and doing meeting parts, why does the Watchtower Society still require it?
by yadda yadda 2 ini loathed giving talks and doing meeting parts.
i dreaded all assignments.
i was intelligent enough and always did a good job, but all my jw life (born in to mid-30's) i enjoyed giving talks about as much as a visit to the dentist.. i am sure that 90% of all jw's similarly dislike it.

Because things you hate can be defined as a "sacrifice"... everyone hates to go preaching but when you did you feel happy. It is just a braingame
