What I asked you IS on topic. You present assertions about your god and I asked for explanations on scriptures that are suposedly inspired by him. Doesn't you bible tell you to make 'a defense of your faith'?

No, Tina. What you asked is that I use my free time to go research your previously stated arguments in another thread. That is not on topic. If you have a point to make, by all means make it. Don't expect me to go digging through old threads just because you believe you've made a good point before. As far as backing up what I believe, what question do you have for me, Tina? I see none from your last response. All I find is:

Perhaps I should clear something up for any who may come upon a post from me. I have never claimed my views to be the "unassailable truth" simply because I say so. I never will. So, once again, if you have a specific question for me, please feel free to ask. I will do my best to answer based on my beliefs.

I didn't break any such commandment, and yet I was born as an imperfect individual into an imperfect world. God got pissed at two people, and punished the entire existance of man. I never got a chance to prove myself, I was assumed guilty from birth, as we all were.

How would you like me to respond to this? What do you expect me to say? You know very well the way the Bible explains the passing of sin to offspring. So, God created two perfect humans. They sinned. They passed that sin to all of their offspring. We are of their offspring, so we inherit sin. God was pretty much left with two other alternatives. 1)Destroy the two people and start over. 2)Scrap the project all together. Either case would result in your not being here. You would not exist. So, I guess my question is, what's your point?

Make no mistake - unfaltering, unquestioning, undeniable faith is hard. It is the hardest thing for man to do because man reasons and thinks for himself, and faith requires us to deny reason and believe the unbelievable. That is what god requires, and if you can't fulfill that requirement you are lost.

You seem to approach faith as if it were some kind of handicap on the part of believers. I do not believe that faith is a detriment to the nature of humans. I believe it is of benefit. Perhaps as if you were to acquire another sensory perception. Not exactly the same, but the closest I could come up with right now. I don't feel that it takes away from humans' natural process of thinking. I feel that it adds to humans' natural process of being. Therefore, I would say that it's not an incredibly difficult thing. I have faith, as do many, many people that I know. I've never once heard any of them complaining that its difficult to retain that faith.

I don't claim that god has to justify his actions to me, but at the same time, I reserve the right to not worship him.

You absolutely do. I couldn't agree more. You have the right not to worship Him. No one can take that away from you.

DW hit the nail right on the head. I have no need for understanding why viruses exist. If God made them for some purpose, then I don't necessarily see it. Does that make it a futile creation? Who am I to say? I need not delve into dissecting things that have absolutely no use in my life. I neither plan to be a scientist nor a philosopher. So, if you want to piddle around trying to figure that one out, be my guest. I simply don't care enough to hunt for an answer.

God is far worse than any normal human father could ever be. No human father would dream of killing one of children, yet God not only dreamed of it he actually WILLED it to be done, and made "prophecies" about it being done. Then told is it was a GOOD thing. So Christians all sit around and tell us what a GOOD deed that was.

Again, I'll thank you not to sit in judgment of my God until you become an equal with him. But thanks for trying. It's good to have goals.

My point of the illustration of overhearing your statement to attack a threat to your family was simply this: Perspective. My perspective may have been that you are a monster for wanting to hurt someone. Your perspective is that you have a desire to protect your family. Two different views. Is mine right just because that's all I see? Nope. So, unless you've become some "New Governing Body" through which God is working, you hold no position to lecture on God's perspective.

Either God left out facts in the Bible so we couldn't understand him, or he told us everything about him in the Bible that we need to know. In the former case, God is incompetent or a master of deception. In the latter case, God is the worst monster imaginable. So, which is it, Sunstar?

If you plant a tree, it will grow. You have, in essence, made a tree. Right? Ok. Does it share characteristics with you? Both of you have cells, made of living material. You are both composed of particles. Both of you need substance to feed on to live, and you both produce waste. So, does the tree understand your thoughts? The answer is this: We cannot understand God. It is not incompetence on his part just as it is not your fault that the tree can't understand you. He hasn't tried to deceive mankind by withholding his thoughts. We merely could never process them.

I apologize. I didn't mean to sound harsh. I do not believe anyone here to be ignorant in terms of intelligence. I use that word in reference to what I believe to be the truth about God. It's not that I'm irritated by the lack of acceptance for atrocious acts. My irritation comes from people always feeling the need to point the finger first at God. I personally could never blame God for these acts. I do, however, understand that there are those who do not believe in God. As I have said before, I do not condemn those people. Never could I. I agree that the bottom line is simply a difference in our beliefs. I harbor no resentment to you for your beliefs, and I would hope you share the same sentiment.

If someone were about to attack a family member of yours, and you shouted out "I'm gonna go kick that guy's ass," would that make you a monster? Perhaps I overheard you and thought you as such for wanting to bring harm to an individual. Does that make you a monster, or does that make me too blind to see otherwise. Do I really know what's going on in your head? God has done things in the Bible which we cannot necessarily explain. Do we know what's in his head, so to speak? Perhaps he's not a monster. Perhaps some of us are too blind to see otherwise.

Tina, you are the model for 21st century thinking. "No one has done anything for me." Let me tell you what God has done for you. Every breath you take, every time your heart beats, every time you feel happy, content, loved, peaceful, surprised, hopeful, and kind, you owe it to Him. Every time you take a dump and feel satisfied that you finally got that miserable feces out of your body, you owe the satisfaction to Him. Now some cynics out there would easily say that we also owe the negatives to him since he created all things. Those people are wrong. Plain and simple. The same would be the case if you stepped in front of a moving car, was hit, and then blamed the car! You are quite knowledgeable of what an oncoming car can do if you step in it's path. So, to blame the car is ludicrous. Who is to blame? Perhaps the driver is somewhat responsible for hitting you. But most directly, YOU are responsible for bringing the suffering upon yourself. Your ignorance allowed you to step in front of a car despite knowing what were the consequences. God has also given us: Food that tastes good, air to breathe, color, life, and love. So what have we (we, as in humans) done for God? We broke the easiest of commandments: "DO NOT EAT FROM THAT TREE!" We turned our back on him. We gave up paradise and perfection under his care. What did he do for us? He gave us a means of redeeming that hope through a prophesy of a Messiah. What did we do? We became evil people who were only interested in ourselves. We took life, we propagated hate, anger, fear, jealousy, and deceit. We again turned our back on him. What did he do? He took himself from the most elevated position in the universe and became a lowly human. For what? To bear the sins of ALL mankind for all time and provide a way for returning to paradise. How did we treat our Creator while he was enduring this great sacrifice? We spit on him. We beat him. We tortured him. Finally, we killed him. We killed an innocent, perfect man, OUR GOD NONETHELESS, because of our ignorance. Has God taken away that sacrifice. No. Must we do great deeds to take advantage of it. No. We have to do next to nothing to enjoy benefits in paradise and perfection forever. Still today, people turn their backs to God. They shout, "There is no God." Still he has not turned his back on us. What has God done for us, indeed. He has done more that any human will ever, ever know. To say otherwise is to label yourself just as ignorant as so many in the past. To answer one of your questions, God does not need me to defend him. I choose to because of all that he's done for me.

Why didn't God just scoop up the Jews and plop them onto some other part of the Earth? Some unpopulated place? Maybe a place that was even nicer than that barren patch of desolate desert they're forever killing each other over?

True. And while we're at it, let's take our children and lock them in the closet while we hand them food and teach them what kind of people to be. Naturally, the best way to train children is to completely isolate them from any outside stimuli. That way, they will become........Jehovah's Witnesses! Julie...surely you don't think that isolation is the best way for God to train his people. The fact is, we don't know God's purpose for every single action he either creates or allows. Not a single man or woman on this planet SHOULD know the reasons for God's every action. He owes us no explanation for the things he does or chooses to allow. For you, or anyone else to claim him unjust for these things is merely the display of a lowly human perspective. Would anyone on this forum claim to know or understand what God is thinking? Hardly.

I'd like to ask you a question. What would you do with individuals who blatantly made themselves enemies of you and actively threatened the lives and health of your children? You're right, God should just roll over and take it up the butt. That would be the way to show them that he's the true God. Yes, everyone wants to worship a weakling god who can't protect his own people. Sign me up! Most importantly, God should never do anything that you don't fully agree with or completely understand, because let's face it, you've got it all figured out. How dare the Creator of the universe do something that is outside the scope of human reasoning! Yes, thank you for your wonderful insight. Maybe next time you can wait until you've achieved godhood to sit in judgment of his actions.
