This is from Watchtower June 2014 article entitled Three 16th Century Truth Seekers What Did They Find
I don't know if I did image links right but it's a inserted information chart in the article and the part I wanted to pass on states:
CHURCH TEACHING:
Saints may be venerated as intercessors with God.
WHAT THE SCRIPTURE SAYS:
“There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus.”—1 Timothy 2:5.
If it's wrong for catholics to be the mediator between God and men why is it ok for the faithful slave to be mediators?there are several watchtower quotes around where they claim the faithful and discreet slave (governing body) are the mediators between men and god/jesus. here's one.
"Likewise, the Greater Moses, Jesus Christ, is not the Mediator between Jehovah God and all mankind. He is the Mediator between his heavenly Father, Jehovah God, and the nation of spiritual Israel, which is limited to only 144,000 members." Worldwide Security Under the "Prince of Peace" (1986) pp.10-11
how is that different than the catholic church of the time?
(Once I get the article on torture done I'll post it here)

My first doubts came from reading the bible from front to back. I read it in less than a week. I was astounded and wondered how that god could be worthy of worship! He was a vindictive murderer. Jesus was more mellow but still YHWH, Jehovah only protected his Kings and prophets. Kinda. Everyone else had no value, just someone to kill when he had a hissy fit. So I started going to history books and as I've posted before discovered the origins of YHWH and how he was one of over 70 gods in a pantheon of gods and was just a tribal war god who was transformed into an invisible almighty god. As made up as any of the other 2000-3000 gods I didn't believe in. Religion is all about power over people to glean resources from them and to control them to the benefit of the leaders or the religion as a whole. I'm done with it all and I wish I'd read history books 50 years ago.

I really think this is something to watch. 40 years ago as I studied with Catholic householders we used the Catholic history of witholding the bible from the rank and file as a marker of how Catholism was false religon. However in the years since the Watchtower has taken the stance that Bible was written principally for the leaders. Members don't have to try to reason the bible out, the watchtower does it for us. The society has a history of condeming the catholic church one year then later adopting the same practices themselves. Offhand one example I can think of is the 1947 article that condemns the catholic church for excommunication then 5 years later using the same scriptures the Society introduced disfellowshipping. I think it's a long shot to say they'll not publish more bibles for the rank and file but it bears watching.

Governing body says your obligation is to ask questions.
by oldregretfuljwx2 inbeing old and having a shit load of bound volumes comes in handy.
i was amusing myself and others by reading the cow article to some friends that were over out of the bound volume watchtower 1961 pg 767. the horny cow= hornywomen analogy always cracks a crowd up when afterwards i flipped through the old light and saw page 643 and the article bashing catholics.
the title is "why do they fear bible discussion?

Being old and having a shit load of bound volumes comes in handy. I was amusing myself and others by reading the cow article to some friends that were over out of the bound volume watchtower 1961 pg 767. The horny cow= hornywomen analogy always cracks a crowd up when afterwards I flipped through the old light and saw page 643 and the article bashing catholics. The title is "Why Do They Fear Bible Discussion?" How the tone of the article disparages the catholic quotes of ""Do not converse with them!" "do not accept booklets they offer you!" "close the way to any discussion" to their members if approached by jehovah's witnesses.
Now the article goes on to reassure catholics that it is bible based to allow discussion! Using Matt 10:7 and 1 Peter 3:15. "sanctify the lord christ in your hearts, being ready always to satisfy everyone that asketh you a reason of that hope which is in you" (article quoted catholic douay verson)
Another interesting part is "In explaining its position on Bible discussion, the Church may say that the Bible is not enough that he traditions of the Church must also be considered in matters of faith" ( 30 seconds or less to google the watchtower quotes on needing the publications of the faithful slave not just the bible)
then later " Of course the Roman Catholic Church makes it plain that it occupies a position of special authority as the church founded by Christ, and is therefore the only real authority in these matters of faith" oh google 10 seconds and find "Consider, too, the fact that Jehovah's organization alone, in all the earth, is directed by God's holy spirit or active force. (Zech. 4:6) Only this organization functions for Jehovah's purpose and to his praise. To it alone God's Sacred Word, the Bible, is not a sealed book. Many persons of the world are very intelligent, capable of understanding complex matters. They can read the Holy Scriptures, but they cannot understand their deep meaning. Yet God's people can comprehend such spiritual things. Why? Not because of special intelligence on their part, but as the apostle Paul declared: "For it is to us God has revealed them through his spirit, for the spirit searches into all things, even the deep things of God."" Watchtower 1973 Jul 1 p.402
later the article asks the question "Do you feel free to discuss your religion with others?"
a snide " If after years of membership in the catholic church you feel that your faith is so weak that a few minutes of Bible discussion with jws will raise doubts in your mind...."
ending with a superior " To be a REAL Christian, you must be willing to discuss your faith with others"
it's like they go back to catholic bashing articles to actually base their form of hierarchy and rulership over members now.

Are there any Gilead or MTS graduates on this site? What helped you to see the light and leave?
by matt2414 ini was a faithful witness for years, even graduating from the ministerial training school.
so much of what i learned at the school has already changed.
if that was food at the proper time and, according to the latest teachings of the governing body, is now all wrong -- basically lies -- was it really spritual food from god?

wow this vow taking must be widespread. i know bethelites take a vow of poverty but this vow of singleness for a certain amount of time sounds really cult like. at the very least it makes the ones taking the vow seem above regular congregants since they were afforded the opportunity to make a vow to jehovah.
