The JW funeral sales pitch . . .
by BereanThinker7 inso recently i attended a jw funeral.
i've been awake and faded for a bit now and so i already have realized the strangeness that is a jw funeral/memorial talk because its basically just a sales pitch to those attending that are non jws using a twist on the christian resurrection hope and barely speaks about the departed.
here's the thing that i noticed the that got me wondering, the pitch, at least at this talk, is given under the guise that it is what the fallen person wanted to be spoken at the funeral and as such its all about the "secondary" "great crowds" class hope.. so my question is had anybody ever attended the funeral talk for someone who claimed to be in the 144,000???.

They did actually say she would want the funeral talk to tell people about the resurrection hope, and who knows maybe she actually did, who am I to say?
But still I am curious as to if maybe any old timers on here or people who have had bethel experience have attended a funeral talk for someone claiming to be part of the 144,000?? The talk would have to be different I imagine.

So recently I attended a JW funeral. I've been awake and faded for a bit now and so I already have realized the strangeness that is a JW funeral/memorial talk because its basically just a sales pitch to those attending that are non JWs using a twist on the Christian resurrection hope and barely speaks about the departed. Here's the thing that I noticed the that got me wondering, the pitch, at least at this talk, is given under the guise that it is what the fallen person wanted to be spoken at the funeral and as such its all about the "secondary" "great crowds" class hope.
So my question is had anybody ever attended the funeral talk for someone who claimed to be in the 144,000???
I would think this would have to completely change the formula of the talk. They cant say that the person wanted to be on paradise earth and then throw the same sales pitch at the audience saying that's what the person wanted the speaker to talk about. They also can't even say that we know we will see them again, and they will be young again, or that they are just sleeping now, because according to JW doctrine all anointed after 1918 are immediately resurrected to heavenly life.
I have now doubt they still try to leverage a persons death as a recruiting tool but I just wonder how they approach it when the person claimed to be in the new covenant and anointed???

A clue about dropping of reporting of numbers?
by sir82 inhey, did anyone notice this point from the wt study article for this past weekend (paragraph 2):.
certainly, jehovah is pleased to see that so many attend the memorial.
(luke 22:19) however, jehovah is not primarily concerned with the number of people who come.

IDK, I dont see them ever getting rid of time reports. Its the spiritual yardstick they use to measure the "faith" of the members and anybody they want to appoint. It also keeps a leash of ppl and keeps them feeling guilty and constantly comparing themselves as inadequate. However I do see them finding ways to hide the numbers that negatively reflect on the Orgs claims.

Can anybody translate this? The youtube auto captions are terrible. I highly doubt this is a video with a lot of references to dancing, golden figurines, and thermostats . . .

Daro Weilburg! I want to report this guy to his elders
by joe134cd indaro weilburg is a jw apologist on you tube.
to be honest i really can’t stand the guy, and i want to report him to his local elders, as he knows full well he shouldn’t be making these videos.
so anyone know his local area or a contact number for his kh.

I wouldnt be suprised if the guy wakes up himself soon. Its only a matter of time before he runs across info that he cant just bash his head against and illogically dismiss maybe like a Greg Stafford sorta thing, but at least that guy tried to be civil and educated, this Daro guy is almost on a trolling level.

Jehovah's Witnesses: A Coercive Organization?
by john.prestor inso in sociology we divide organizations up into three categories or types, you got utilitarian, voluntary, and coercive.
utilitarian means people join to accomplish some purpose like selling food or making furniture, voluntary means they join up just for fun or to hang out with people like the freemasons or a lot of churches, and coercive means they don't really want to be there but they gotta because someone will punish them if they leave, so labor camps, armies, or prisons.. in a paper i wrote for a class a while back i argued that jehovah's witnesses should be seen as a coercive organization.
yeah, people join up and they do leave, nobody beats you up if you stop attending or preaching, nobody imprisons you, shoots your dog, kills your kids that kind of thing, and nobody makes you join up either.

"Are you the plumber?"
by Jourles ini've been debating whether or not to post this story simply because the org knows who i am (post history from pre-'05 will tell you all you need to know), and i'm not sure if they would give my parents shit if they knew what transpired earlier this summer.
but you know what, i don't care what they do, because my mom is dying of stage iv cancer and i feel this needs to be heard by anyone struggling with the loss of contact from their relatives.. for those who are not familiar with my background, i became a small thorn in the side of the wts while i was still in.
i'm not big on being deceived, and for me, the org crossed my personal 'red line' when it came to blood and the child abuse issue.
