Job suffered severely

Wow, This brings back memories!

This was the story that got my parents to stop pushing me to get baptized. They couldn’t explain to me Why?

The story of Job shows unequivocally, not only how the person who wrote this story had some of the lowest moral principles, but the entire culture of the time couldn’t distinguish the absurdity of a Father allowing a relative, a friend, or a stranger, to inflict pain and death to his own children.

Imagine if something like that happened in today’s modern world. Imagine if someone approaches a Father, and that someone asks the father of a son, and grandfather of many children, that if he allows him to inflict punishment on his son, and grandchildren, he can prove that his son only loves him because of what they can get out of him.

Now imagine the Father says yes, and the stranger throws acid on the son, kills all his children, and strips him of his livelihood.

Once the neighbors find out, without a doubt they will call the police and arrest the stranger and the Father, and throw them both in prison or give them the death penalty, for allowing such atrocity to be inflicted by this stranger to win a bet.

How about this other scenario, A stranger or a relative, approaches a Father who is a powerful king with many children who rules a huge empire and tells him that he wants to prove that his children don’t love him. And he can prove it by killing some, and torturing others.

How long do you think it will take before the King executes this man? Probably minutes.

Last scenario. Someone approaches you and tells you that your children don’t love you, and I can prove it if you allow me to kill some of your children and torture others.

What would you do?

This story of Job shows how low the moral standards of people living back then were. They were literally sick in the mind. This is why it was no big deal hearing the story of Lot handing off his daughters to a crowd to be raped, or the man who handed out his concubine to a crowd of perverts to rape her to death and then butcher her into twelve pieces and send the pieces to the twelve tribes of Israel. This is in the last three chapters of Judges.

This is one of the main reasons why the women of Gen Z hate the bible. The way women were treated in the OT is absurd and plain evil. And as more Generations are born every year, more people are rejecting the bible as the inspired word of God and concluding that it’s just a collections of stories written by ignorant men who were just reflecting the mores of their time.

At the rate information is being spread throughout the earth via the internet, and more people have access to the bible, I’d say in 100 year the bible will become irrelevant world wide.

All a person has to do is read the Bible a few times, and it becomes obvious that its a creation of ignorant men of the past.

Mark 10:11,12 has Jesus forbid divorce for anyone. When the redactor of Matt revised this passage, he added the interrupter phrase, "except for porneia"..... Luke (16:18) either saw and disagreed with the redactor of Matt or it was not yet in the copy of Matt he was using. He also has Jesus forbid divorce on any grounds.

That's interesting, I never caught that. It shows how "Time" can change someone's views.

This reminds me of the WT policy NO BLOOD. Then later on, Blood Fractions OK!

It wouldn't surprise me if in 20-30 years, the entire No Blood ideology is thrown out by New Members of the Governing Body. By that time the new GB will be of the Generation Z.

These days in the USA, some stats say women initiate 70% of all divorces

So if you were going skydiving and they told you 3 of 4 parachutes were not going to open, how many would stop right there and forget the whole rhetoric about how great skydiving is?

If you get married at 20, have a couple of kids by 24, and then your wife decides she wants a divorce, you will be stuck with child support for the next 20 years, plus alimony. Plus you don’t get to see your own kids every day, but a judge whom you never met will decide how many times and when you will be able to see your kids.

Now you want to get married again and finally find the love of your life and she has two kids and after a few years you finally realize the story about the Prince finding the Princess and riding off into the sunset was just a story made up by some romantic that wanted to sell books.

Most of my friends have gotten married and had children by age 24. And most of those are already on their second marriage and come and complain to me about their lot in life. And the biggest struggle they have right now is Money.

Even the older ones I know who have been married some 50 years tell me it wasn’t easy and perhaps they should of waited till they were in their late 40s, or 50s.

The problem is this world doesn’t make it easy for two people in love to stay in love. And the marriage and divorce laws are out of wack.And the worse thing about it all is that life is short. 80 years if your lucky, and the last few will be in declining health. And at 80, sex will just be a bodily function like waking up and walking around. It won't be the hot, steamy romantic sex that you had when you first met your wife or husband, and both of you had hot 18 years old bodies.

Now it's 80-90 year old bodies. It's won't be an easy thing watching the person you love and shared your life with get old and sickly and there's nothing you can do about it but hold her hand. I know this because I see my parents frustration as they get old and more sickly than when they were younger. Both my father and mother are terrified of losing each other. They are hoping hard the paradise will come before either one of them dies.

The only reason I can see this is because I was lucky enough to inherit something that allowed me to not worry about taking care of myself and it allowed me time to study and meditate on life and what it offers. It seems like trying to enjoy the wonders of life and avoid as much Drama and people that cause Drama is the Key to a happy life.

Had I not inherit what I did, I would be doing the same thing my friends did and probably be divorce by now with kids.

However... until we get to one of those difficult issues, we seem to have no problem at all comprehending god. We have a clear basis for judging his character and actions as long as they fit into an acceptable moral framework. When his actions fall into a gray area, we decide that he is inscrutable. That we cannot fathom his ways. That he exists on a higher moral and ethical plane, and thus our judgments do not apply.

Ah yes, the doubling down to protect the narrative, and to protect ourselves from the psychic pain of discovering that what we thought was correct………….Might not be correct after all!

Instead of confronting our failings, our wrong assumptions head-on, we instead practice different forms of evasion, try hard to rationalize the contradictions, and start the process of realigning the new facts with what we believe can fit our preconceive assumptions.

“Example; Jehovah possesses perfect, unlimited, and eternal goodwill, kindness, and love towards all creation. As the source of goodness and love itself, Jehovah cannot act in any way contrary to His fundamentally benevolent nature.”

But wait, Why does the bible say that Jehovah Killed 70,000 of his loyal, faithful, innocent worshipers just because a King took a census and pissed him off. And why did he force King David to choose one of the three ways he would wipe out thousands of innocent mothers, fathers, children, and infants? Isn’t that exactly what drug Cartels do to intimidate people into submission?

As Humans we have this tendency to claim confidence in what we believe. We may believe;

We will get a promotion at work.

The person that we are dating now is the one.

Our candidate will definitely win the election this November because everyone that is rational will be voting for him.

When none of these things come true, we start the process of using different forms of evasion, rationalization, and realignment, all in an attempt to make it all make sense. We do the same thing with our idea of God.

God allows evil because of free will.

God has allowed suffering because an issue of Universal Sovereignty was brought up in Eden.

We inherited Sin so God needed a Ransom Sacrifice before he acts.

God’s time table is not the same as ours.

And the list goes on.

It’s hard for humans to see reality as it is, (harsh, uncaring, Random) and accept it as truth.

So we create narratives to ease the Psychic Pain, the cognitive dissonance.

For some humans, to accept reality might mean, entering the Highway of Nihilism, a life with no meaning. A realization that in the end, we go back to what we were before we were born.

And once you’ve experience the sweet taste of Life, the love, the wonders, Nothingness just won’t cut it anymore.

So we do what humans do best……….we create stories of what God wants, what he hates, what kind of sex is wrong, what kind of food is bad to eat, what medical procedure is a sin, what kind of worship does he approve, what kind of worship is False.......and the list goes on.

And if you do what your Church, preacher, Governing Body, or your own assumptions tell you what God wants, then you will inherit Everlasting Life. And your mind will not be in constant Psychic Shock. You can simmer down the hot flames of cognitive dissonance and live in relative peace of mind, until you are no more.

Ah-Yes, the age old question, “If God created Everything-----Who created God?”

Ridley made sure he made this possibility of a Creator not being immortal, evident in Prometheus. He wanted to make sure the audience grasped the idea that a Creation might outshine and outlive the Creator

Re-establishing a way for people to find a divorce judgment and have that be adjudicated is a good thing

I agree.

But some are taking it to far right and others are taking it to far left.They can't seem to meet in the middle.

The fact that God doesn't align with what you believe God should be does not mean he doesn't exist.

I never said God doesn’t exist. What I said was;

Is there an All Knowing Benevolent, Omnipotent God?

I'd argue that nature of life on Earth and the course of human history makes it impossible to accept, that a "perfect, benevolent, omnipotent, omniscient God, who is ruler of the universe. and originator of all life"……...Actually Exists.

I actually do consider that there was or perhaps there is a Creator.

But not one like Christians describe. Which according to them, God is the biblical God YHWH or Jehovah. And that he is Totally Perfect, and the epitome of Love and Compassion.

On the other hand, there’s actually a lot of possibilities of who or what the Creator is or was.

1. The Creator could have been a Being who was powerful enough, and intelligent enough to create life, but not immortal. And he created life on earth and then died. Leaving us to fend for ourselves and figure it out.

That actually would make sense and explain a lot. Scientist that study human population have said that in 1AD there was about 200 million people in the entire world. There was far less before AD. But around 1800 AD humanity finally reached 1 Billion.

Why did it take thousands and thousands of years before humanity reached 1 Billion? Because the trail of humanity has been one of ignorance, trial and error. Humanity didn’t get a “Manual” on how to live and avoid death. Our history is fill with millions of humans starving to death, freezing to death, being burned alive, falling to our death, eaten by animals, dying of disease, and so on.

Little by little humans had to learn by trial and error on how to survive in a harsh world. How long did it take to finally figure out how to make fire? How many lives did it take to learn how to swim? How to build shelter and move out of the caves?

We have been on our own from the very beginning. But something changed in the 1800s. We started discovering technology, medicine, anatomy, industrialized farming, electricity, plumbing, steel, and what that accomplished is that humans weren’t dying anymore needlessly. We weren’t freezing to death. We were not starving as much, we were not dying as much as in the past because medicine was making big strides in curing the sick.

But that’s not all. We are finally getting close to creating life. About eleven years ago humans created a liver with stem cells and put it in a woman and saved her life. Or was it a pancreas? Can’t remember exactly but regardless, Humans are learning how to create hearts, eyes, lungs, and other important processes that bring us closer to being Creators.

In one of my College Classes, the professor told us to write several possibilities of who Created life. There were literally hundreds of possibilities written by all us students.

Here’s one possibility shown in a movie years back, when I was still a kid growing up in the jw faith;

The Creator was like Jesus, he sacrificed his life that other might live.

Sea Breeze; You titled this thread 1st Century Advice, then you switch to the OT.

I’m sorry about that Sea Breeze, I assumed that you like most Christians consider the entire bible as the word of the Father of Jesus. Most Christians that I know believe that the Father of Jesus does not change with time or cultures In other words, the Law God instituted in the OT should be the same as the 1st Century.

if God's laws transcends Time, Space, and Cultures, It shouldn’t be different if he is the same God, It shouldn't change one bit, otherwise the entire bible is of no practical importance and totally irrelevant.
