Yeah, slip. You mean there actually ARE men who read the "articles"?

i'm interested in finding out what everyone is reading these days.. or what books have had an impact on your worldview since leaving the org.. what have you found helpful in re-constructing and broadening the way you think and feel?.
what have you found to be particularly enlightening on 'your journey?'.
thanks in advance,luv to all.tina.

Mulan, I am on the second chapter of Timeline. Amazing stuff!
I read in threes also. I'm reading Nothing Human, by Ronald Munson. Typical serial killer stuff. And just started Ancient Evenings, by Norman Mailer.
Reinventing Your Life, by Jeffrey E. Young, PH.D/Janet S. Klosko, PH.D has really helped me break free from the negative patterns of being a JW. Also, The Celestine Prophecy.
Princess, I keep Secrets of the Sexually Irresistible Woman, by Graham Masterson by my bed at night. Just for a little late night education.

LOL, Princess.
Sorry, it was a joke! Anyone with a "rapper" as a son knows what Old English Malt Liquor is. (About 2.50 for a 40oz.)
But after a careful reading of the Joelbear/Talleyman/rape thread, I wish I had your bottle!!!!

i do have two new return visits but they are not from field service.. my womens club went to a local nursing home today.
we brought the elderly gifts, we sang songs with them, and we brought our pets, and listened to them.
they were so happy to see us and share some of their lifes experiences with us.. it was different to go to a nursing home with no ulterior motives like pushing jw literature.. it felt right to just give them what they wanted most.
Ranchette, you showed what real love is. I remember asking my mom if she didn't have hope of eternal life, would she be doing her so-called "good deeds". I got that blank, dumb look. Real loving kindness goes out with no strings attached, and no reward expected in return.

the posts in the elders meeting thread got me thinking about this, so i've spun it off for into another thread.. were you ever 'counseled' because "some" in the congregation were disturbed by things you said/did/listened to/watched?.
here is just some of the stupid stuff that the elders brought me in on.
though they were usually handled through shepherding calls, not in the back room at the kh.. 1: because i decided to change my first and middle names.
This is really bringing back the memories. When my sister was 11 (I was 12) she had a part on the ministry school. Our congregation was very small at the time. Only about 30 people. Hey, it was a small town and the congregations hadn't yet integrated.
Anyway, right before her part, Brother Blake decided her dress was about an inch too short. I remember him walking over during the meeting and whispering to my mother, who then took my sister into the bathroom and ripped the hem out of her dress. I could see the look on my sister's face when she came back to her seat. Tears were in her eyes. Total humiliation. And everyone knew. She then had to get up on the platform with a ripped hem. Because she knew if she didn't, she'd get a beating when she got home.
I swear I had hate in my heart for that brother.
My stepfather apologized to me this morning about this. He remembered it too. He said that if he knew then what he knows now about the witnesses, he'd have punched Brother Blake in the face for even looking at his 11 year old daughter's legs!!!

i guess i've been inspired by stephen's quote threads, so i'm going to start one myself.. not one particular author here, just whatever i can find:.
q: why do you think that people are so protective of their egos?
why is it so hard to let go of one's ego?.

Start immediately.
Do it flamboyantly.

my mom is a pioneer, very preachy....you know the type.
she told me how demonic harry potter is......but she's looking forward to seeing lord of the rings when it comes out.
does that make any sense?
Thank you, Joel. I remember now. Also Holly Hunter?? Can't remember much about the movie, since I was so angry! (And hey, I LOVE John Goodman!)

Yes, it makes plenty of sense! It's the classic double-standard technique all jws use to justify what they want to do.
Examples:
My mother walked out of the movie "Ghost", but then picked me up and took me to see another movie with Richard Dreyfuss, about a pilot who was killed and came back from the dead to save his girlfriend's lover. Can't remember the name of it. We argued about this one in the car. Her response? "They're just different!"
My mother refused to drive my son to Kung Fu practice. Saying it was demonized. He had to walk 2 miles on a country road to get there. But she then turns around and writes an article in the local paper, all about the teacher. How great he is. Explaining all of his training in Korea. The good he's doing for the local kids. (small town-nothing to do)Unbelievable!
All my Beatles records are burned in the back yard. She watches "The Tom Jones Show", where women are throwing panties on stage. And buys all of his albums, which have some very sexual songs. When I point this out to her, she takes a steak knife, and scratches up the offending songs. Says, "Are you happy now?" Score one!
Let it never be said that the witnesses DON'T make sense!!!!!!
